    These boys (they're all young) get a lot of flack for sounding like Led Zep from folks that apparently don't like that, but they're fun and put on a great show. What more do ya want from music?

    • @saschaschneider6355
      @saschaschneider6355 4 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      They only get flack from me for that for not owning up to it. I mean, it's obvious and yet they claim to hardly know Led Zep and be inspired by completely different bands. Puh-lease.
      Oh and when you think THEY are getting a lot of flack you should've seen the kind of flack e.g. Kingdom Come got back in the 80s. Gary Moore and Ozzy Osbourne even made a song that was mocking them and other Led Zeppelin-Wannabes: "Led Clones".
      But well, it's been so long, I actually find it refreshing to hear a new band that is Zep inspired. Just own up to it and everything's peachy

      @@saschaschneider6355 Greta Van Fleet are often compared to Led Zeppelin.[54] Jake related that he "... went through a year of really intensely studying what [Jimmy] Page did to the point I knew how he thought," but he has studied other classic rock guitarists in a similar manner, specifically mentioning Pete Townshend.[55] Likewise, on his voice being compared to Robert Plant's, Josh said that Plant has certainly been an influence, "though it's not what I was going for."[56] Stating that he did not even know who Led Zeppelin was until high school, he explained that his singing style came out naturally one day while struggling to be heard over the rest of the band.[55] In a March 2018 interview, Plant cited Greta Van Fleet as one of his favorite up-and-coming bands, saying "they are Led Zeppelin I" and describing Josh as "a beautiful little singer."[57]

    They come from a VERY small town in Michigan called Frankenmuth (about 40-50 miles north of Detroit). The town's original claim to fame was as a "tourist trap" with the world's largest Christmas store! Used to go there with my parents as a kid and never figured it would spawn one of the world's most talked about rock bands! Detroit? Yes! But not Frankenmuth.
    I mean Detroit even had a whole style of music come from here but Frankenmuth is ALL about tourism and I always envisioned everyone who lives there only were there for the tourism related jobs! Strange pre-conceived notion - I know!

    If I remember correctly, they started by covering Led Zepplin probably because he can actually do the screams and howls like Robert Plant. They were definitely influenced by the blues and older soul songs/bands. Robert Plant actually likes them. It will definitely be interesting to see where they end up years down the line.

    The one thing I like about Greta Van Fleet, is that their a real band, with a real singer, and real band members that play real musical instruments. Modern pop music and "bands" nowadays, is just autotuned voices over a drum machine, their about as good as plastic cheese over vanilla ice cream.

    • @shannahbanana
      @shannahbanana 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I really like Greta Van Fleet a lot, but I also like some of those other modern pop groups, and talent comes in many forms and music can be enjoyed in its different forms too. It's not all going to be everyone's cup of tea, but hating on it seems unproductive.

    I knew you would like it when your eyes got really large in the first 3-4 seconds of the opening vocal notes, almost filled the lenses of the glasses (which look wonderful on you). No you are not the first to get the Led Zeppelin vibe, If you listen to Zeppelin's "Dancin Days" Robert Plant's repeating "my one and only" vs Josh Kiszka's "She is my special" they don't quite line up 100% but very close. Robert Plant has repeatedly said he really enjoys them. GVF's "Safari Song" "Black Smoke Rising" "When the curtain falls" all good choices, Please consider more of their songs and keep up the good work.

    You should look at this song,
    The Tragically Hip from Canada. Fiddlers Green is the song. About a relative of the the singer, who was a child and died early. The singer Gord Downey, also passed due to a brain tumor, but they pulled off an epic final tour a few years ago. Not sure what you think of his singing, but he is a national treasure here. He will be missed...

    I Loved Led Zep, was during my prime time of life, 30's. A tiny bit of info from Wikipedia: "Greta Van Fleet is an American rock band from Frankenmuth, Michigan, formed in 2012. It consists of Kiszka brothers Josh (vocals), Jake (guitar) and Sam (bass guitar); and Danny Wagner (drums)." I'd say they were strongly influenced by LZ, but use it as much as a stepping off point rather than something to slavishly emulate. Got to get an album, just to support them.
