    I liked when people sharing their personal journey like this, feel so related. We all had a past, and it's quiet interesting to look back

    This is a video that I can relate to. If I could go back in time I wouldn't have purchased a designer handbag I had to have even though it was second hand because it didn't really work for my lifestyle and I ended up selling it.
    Also, knowing what I do now about my post-baby body I would have made a capsule wardrobe. Three bottoms: leggings, joggers and jeans; v-neck shirts/sweater, button downs and cardigans and maybe a few dresses for the odd date night/night out. Also, I would have gotten a few pairs of really good flats/ pull on boots. #mamalife

      It's crazy the number of things I feel like I've bought that just don't suit my lifestyle - sometimes emotions just seem to get in the way of logic, right?!
      Well I will be keeping that in my for when we start a family - that's great advice to have :)

    I am such an emotional shopper a lot of times I have to talk myself out of things. Or just close pages and leave carts with things in. Many a time I was like did you really need that and is that piece really one that suits your lifestyle? I am trying to be more conscious of this and I also buy food when I am sad like snacky stuff so understanding yourself helps a lot in saving money for good things to spend it on and saving it period.

    • @mademoisellejaime
      @mademoisellejaime  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I do that too - usually I save a whole bunch of things to my book marks and then I go back and say to myself, 'do I really need that?'. Nine times out of ten I've forgotten what it was that I'd saved anyway! Totally agree - we've been saving a lot recently too and so I keep reminding myself that the end goal is so much bigger that a quick fashion (or snack) fix :)

    I've made my peace with the fact that certain shoes of mine are for pretty much the office only and/or special occasions, which is a bit silly but oh well

    • @mademoisellejaime
      @mademoisellejaime  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a couple pairs of shoes which sit under my desk and I change into them at work - it's a lot more practical since I do walk long distances. Nothing wrong with that at all - the more expensive ones though, I was too nervous to wear at work either, and felt like I wasn't enjoying them when I did! x

    I didn't have any money to make stupid purchases but made a lot of stupid decisions, we all do.

    • @mademoisellejaime
      @mademoisellejaime  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was definitely fortunate to have quite a bit of disposable income, especially in my early twenties, a lot of which I prioritised on my wardrobe (probably one of the biggest mistakes!). Hehe but yep, so true, we all make silly mistakes, especially when we're younger :)

    I get the emotional shopping. I am in my (late) 20s and I thought i had a handle on my shopping. Then i had to leave the US to go back to my country and I realised just how many clothes I had. I thought i had it under control... but nothing is as attractive as a thrift shop! That was my weaknes. Being in a country where such things are not as available has helped. But one area I dtill do way too much shopping in is junk food. if I were to save the money i ise for chips, ice-cream or chocolate in a week, i could probably but a nice decent meal at the end of the week.

    • @mademoisellejaime
      @mademoisellejaime  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you're getting a bargain it always seems like a good idea! Oh gosh yes, I was in the supermarket yesterday and thinking about getting a chocolate bar, and I thought, I could buy some lovely raspberries for the same price!

      @MsRudo10 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      mademoiselle I just realized how many spelling errors are in my comment!! 😲 sorry about that and also glad you understood it!! Maybe I should try and do that... Buying something for the same price!

    I bought the Susanna boots after lusting after them for several years. So my style, however I’m so afraid to ruin them that I have only worn them on my bday. Afraid anyone will get too close and scuff them or spill a drink on them. Those boots own me, and hopefully one day I’ll wear them without a care just like a few girls I’ve watched on a TH-cam do. 😟

    • @mademoisellejaime
      @mademoisellejaime  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      YES! That was my exact problem with those super expensive shoes, which is part of the reason why I tend to try and only buy them second hand these days - I'm a lot less precious about them. They're such stunning boots though, and I'm sure one day you'll be comfortable with wearing them out all the time :)

      That's the hardest thing though! I still shop emotionally so don't be too hard on yourself! :)

  • @rosiebeauchêne

    I started my first two jobs in September 2017 and during the holidays I was so stressed out with the amount of hours I worked that I was emotionally shopping a lot and quite unnecessarily. My biggest shopping regret from December was buying two pairs of glasses instead of one. And by the time I realized I was probably never going to use the second pair I’ve already passed the 1 month grace period of getting to return it. I’ve recently turned 20 this year and I really hope I’m more concious about shopping from now on.

      It's so great that you're recognising these things so early on - I wish I'd had the same insights at 20! Also congrats on entering the workforce, that's awesome!! :)

  • @Ellie-es4ms

    We all made those mistakes in our 20s, I did very similar ones to yours, cameras, shoes, dresses. Also very expensive dining experiences. Not to mention my first house which was very impulsive. I did buy a lot of very expensive skin care, I don’t regret skin care part though.

    • @mademoisellejaime

      Haha yes it's definitely a period of learning, and I think when you get towards your thirties, you start to realise what's really important to you to spend your money on :)

    Love your videos so much and have been binge watching them again. Do you know anything about personal colors? When I watch your videos you remind me of a soft summer. You look especially nice in grey, navy, white (but softer whites than bright whites), stone, and other muted colors! This is just my personal opinion but you might want to look into it if you’re interested! Looking forward to your next video :)

    • @mademoisellejaime
      @mademoisellejaime  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Julia! I have had my colours done and apparently I am a warm autumn? I don't think that I was matched correctly though as one of the colours on my palette was SO SO wrong on me so I've really just gone for what I like instead! Maybe it's worth looking into this again...

    • @janeim3990
      @janeim3990 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      mademoiselle you definitely look cool toned though! I think you are most likely a soft summer (especially soft summer deep tones seem like a good fit!!) But again this is just me and my obsession with color!

  • @TheNicoliyah

    Great video idea. My biggest aim going forward is to invest in quality basics and not buy trend pieces that are "a bargain!" Coz they're on sale I also have a new rule when buying clothes (can't remember where I heard it) but the idea is to only buy things that go with at least 5 other things that you already own. And also buy things that you will get at least 30 wears out of them. The idea is to have a really versatile wardrobe and items with a low cost per wear ratio.

    • @rosiebeauchêne
      @rosiebeauchêne 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TheNicoliyah That’s a really great idea 💡

    • @mademoisellejaime
      @mademoisellejaime  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah that's always a great one! I try to think about how many outfits I'll be able to make out of the one item before investing in it. Funny you say 30 wears - I used to try and make that a rule of thumb for items in my closet - didn't always make it though but I was a bit obsessive about tallying things up! Haha xx

    I've bought so much online that just wasn't what I was expecting nor did I need that I've ended up selling for way less than I paid. I think we're very influenced by others and don't necessarily consider how that item will fit with our style... I definitely bought things for the life I wanted as opposed to the one I had 😂😂❤

    • @mademoisellejaime
      @mademoisellejaime  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This has happened to me so much, though these days I make sure to return things I am 80% sure I won't wear, even if I can only get store credit (you can always ask for this even if it's not in a store policy). I've been so guilty of that and no doubt I'll still make mistakes but that's part of being human I think, we can never be perfect! :)

    Emotional shopping really was an issue for me 2 a few years ago. If I only think how much I spend on things that I didn't need and didn't use...

    • @mademoisellejaime
      @mademoisellejaime  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When I think back about how much money I've spent on things I didn't need (and subsequently sold quite shortly after) due to emotional shopping, it makes me cringe - at the time I didn't even realise what a problem it was! Hindsight is a blessing and a curse haha x

    I also used to look up to Rumi Neely.. I always wanted to buy those super expensive heels back then but I wasn't able to justify it. But I bought instead all these crazy high heels that I barely could walk in just because they looked cool.

      It's definitely so common to make mistakes like this - I think no one ever talks about it though! And totally agree with you on the shoe thing; it's one of the reasons why I love suede shoes so much (they have much more give than leather) and why I tend to avoid patent and synthetic materials in footwear as much as possible! :)

    I wouldn't spend $1,000 on a pair of shoes unless I made $2,000 a week. Damn. I own 2 gently pre loved pairs of louboutins. Won't go over the $400 mark.

    • @mademoisellejaime
      @mademoisellejaime  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was definitely a very expensive shopping mistake - though don't get me wrong, I did adore those shoes, just a shame I never wore them. I'm a lot like you now... I don't think much about buying designer shoes that cost more than $500 (AUD) and tend to buy a lot more pre-loved. Makes more sense to me! x
