    I have since built myself a crosscut sled, thanks for the input everyone.

    Consider using wet/dry sandpaper (paint and body repair.) It'll hold the oil better, and last longer. And by all means use a miter gauge, or sled for crosscuts!

    I was a little worried about installing the blade after reading a couple of reviews. But it was amazingly easy. Took about 1 minute. Works great th-cam.com/users/postUgkxjpBI8OOeUXib_iT7UomCrQ-uauwZJ62c . Cuts easily and is perfect for pocket cuts I needed to make for replacing some old deck boards.

    Very good video. Thank you. Doesn't have to be perfect way of sharpening as long as it works and doing the job. Besides I love your garage stereo. Perfect idea to use pc psu as a power suply, really clever, this gives me a great idea for my shed. Thanks

    Diamond embedded credit card sharpener 600+ 1200, clean 1st, make sure the angle from card to teeth are correct(ie alternating blades), these cards just get an edge, eventually a they will need a shop to truly sharpen the carbide.

    you seem to have got away with it so far but one time you are going to get a chunk of wood fired at you and the other piece damaging fingers,wrist or somewhere else. i was ripping on a radial-arm with no push-stick and as they seperated the cut bit shot back at me and hit my leg and only missed the crown jewels cos i was standing on a pallet. some guy sliced through his 4 fingers when cutting ply-wood cos he didnt set the depth gauge before using. watching you cut those blocks was like having a cold shower. great idea and i am off to try it now

    Widia teeth can NOT be sharpened with sandpaper. What happened was that you only removed residual resin gum. Cleaning the blade would give you the same, if not better result due to also cleaning top en sides of the teeth. Resins on teeth make them saw as "dull". Many users "think" that the sawblade must be sharpend, but in many cases it turns out not to be necessary afther cleaning. Regular cleaning is very important to retain optimal results. Lots of examples on TH-cam.
    Sharpening Widia teeth is only possible with adequate fine pitch diamond tools. Do NOT use a diamond blade made for stone or concrete as a sharpening tool, these are much to course, damage the teeth and decrease the time the teeth remain sharp.
    And I am very glad you made yourself a crosscut sled.

    Liked the sharpening method, I’ll try that! I’d never cross cut agains the Rip fence, should it jam-and its bound to eventually it will possibly hit you back a serious facial injury. If you clamp a stop block on to the rip fence that does not extend to the start of the cutting no jamming can occur. Just don’t cross cut using the rip fence anymore. Thank you for your technique

    oh man use a mitre gauge or a sled if your going to make that kind of cut. cross cuts can easily start binding with the blade and then you got yourself an accident!

    How much grit do you think is left in that one spot of the sandpaper by the time you get all the way around?

  • @jimbo2629

    A riving knife is essential.
    Use a diamond stone.
    With the blade at90* you are sharpening for rip cutting.
    Cross cut with a sliding mitre fence.
    For repeat cuts use an extra fence clamped further back to the rip fence to give you length, and push the wood beyond it before you hit the blade. There are lots of videos about this. Or use a sled.

    Hey buddy, clean your blades first. I like to use steel wool. You get a much better result. Also, what about the top cutting surfaces? Thanks for your good video though. Keep it up.

    Seriously friend. I'm not going to call you names, but that is not the way to crosscut lumber. Your saw should have come with some sort of miter guide. If not, look on TH-cam for instructions on making a crosscut sled. Made properly, it can be your best single tool for producing great results. Several years ago, I was using my fence as a gauge to crosscut a number of pieces the same length.(BAD IDEA!). The kickback hit me in the stomach and luckily all I got was a huge bruise and several days of severe pain. It could have been much worse. I'm learning every day to show my tools all the respect they deserve.

    Is that regular sandpaper, and are the blade teeth carbide? I been using fine grit diamond files, never thought sandpaper would sharpen carbide...will have to try that thanks.

    • @rynait
      @rynait ปีที่แล้ว

      i had same thought, did some research online. states al. oxide sandpaper or sil. carbide sandpaper is not gonna do the job. DIamond is what is used to grind the carbide teeth. Not gonna try OP's technique.

    Great video until you made a cut. I almost shat myself good god man don’t do that. Nobody do that. Fences are for ripping(long way) cutting across the grain needs to be done with a cross cut saw or cross cut jig

    If you turn on the saw when you sharpen your blade, it would go a lot faster than your hand can turn the blade. Way faster.

    I never uploads a video on TH-cam before. I do want to warn you when I was younger no one taught me how to use tools. I figured it out on my own I did the same as you but I was'nt as lucky. A piece of cherry kicked back and knocked me to the floor. Very embarrassing. I was in the nave hobby woodworking shop. I had a black and blue mark across my pp. I learned to respect ww machines. The jointer has my total respect

      if the piece between the blade and fence catches on the back part of the blade and launches it into your face- you will know why. use a sled and move the fence AWAY.

    • @shingos80
      @shingos80 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should use the miter gauge that comes with your table saw. If you don't have one, use the miter saw, if you don't have one, use a bigger piece of wood or plywood to push the wood you're cutting.

    • @kyoopihd
      @kyoopihd 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, crosscuts using only the fence and no riving knife or anything is a huge kickback risk.
