    Bought a used Harley from my local official Harley Davidson dealership a couple of years ago and was not impressed with the pre delivery inspection and service. The bike was rattling and squeaking when I was driving it from the dealership. At home I found many loose screws on my bike that wasn’t secured correctly. It took me 2 months to find and tighten all loose screws.

      I have to agree with this unfortunately. I picked up my brand new 2019 Street Glide Special and when checking my trans oil found it was very low (only just touched the bottom of the dipstick) fearing I may have had the oil transfer issue, I took it back to be looked at. Tech's advised that it appeared there was no fluid transfer as the primary was at proper level and they topped up the trans oil. I checked the level frequently up to its first service and found the level didn't change after that. One could deduce that the pre-delivery checks had not been carried out correctly and I was running the bike with dangerously low oil level.
      Everything beyond this, has been flawless with the bike and the dealership (touch wood) The guys there are usually top notch and give great customer service. They have the view once you buy a HD from them, your part of the family and how they deal with you seems to reflect that!

    Just a suggestion to DIY’ers, watch a couple of you tube vids on how to properly use a torque wrench. I have been surprised at what I’ve seen. This includes the proper use of extensions. Nothing worse then going to the effort to check torque and either under or over achieve the setting of the wrench. Something as simple as how you hold the tool will affect your reading.
    Now to find the list of torque specs for 16 RGU.......🏍

      @Phil To save on ink. Don't laugh, the motor company has been deleting so many things in the past 10 years, all just so the stockholders can get more money. Won't be long before the company will be bought out by a Chinese or Indian investor group.

      I think I have the answer to that question. I just tried to get a service manual for the 96 in twin cam I recently bought and even though I live in Canada the parts guy at the local dealership told me he couldn't order me one. Said Harley is lobbying to enact laws in the US preventing riders from doing certain maintenance for 'safety reasons'. True or not? I don't know but thats the story I got.

      @@DanielRyanScott That could be. The guy didn't seem to be too on the ball. Maybe it's just this particular dealership not wanting to lose any service work? Air or Battery impacts are fine for removing bolts and screws . but hand tools are the only way to go installing them . the battery impact 150 foot pounds will strip about all the aluminum threading out . Trans bolts to inner primary engine bolts to inner primary , all the 1/4- 20 allen head to outer primary .

    1500 $$ to change my bars

    Ps
    I also do the mid range on the torque settings
    I also Clean the holes out with a thread chaser then spray out with brake clean
    Finally spray out with air

    Is there a difference from the "thread chaser/ cleaner" you use and a thread tap?

    • @FXRBlue
      @FXRBlue 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A thread “tap” is actually cutting new threads. A thread “chaser” is only chasing or cleaning the threads.

    "Harley Davidson says...."
    That the noise of something slamming around in my 8500 mile M8 is normal.
    That lots of smoke and 500° engine temperature is normal.
    Things didn't make sense but Harley Davidson said....
    Well, $5,000 of parts and labor on a warrantied bike later(new cylinders, new pistons, new oil pump, new cam, new cam plate, new lifters, new pushrods, ....... everything but the taste in my mouth seems normal. That was a lot of metal shavings. Why is there no screen on the oil pump intake? How are these shaving so big compared to any of the actual damage in the motor. These problems started the day the bike was new. Been a year of being told the slamming noise and excessive heat and smoke were normal. Only I get the feeling they are not. Actually, I was 1000% sure they were not. $5000 later.....

    What are you do the clean threads out should I take up socket head caps screwe run it on a cut off wheel so it looks kind of like a tap you groove it on one side and dishing it in negative. Then screw it into the hole and then back it out and clean it. Repeat If necessary.

    I have a 2014 HD Sportster XL. It idles at 1700 rpm, when the HD says 1000 rpm is normal. Took to a motorcycle mechanic, who checked spark plugs, and took apart the air cleaner and checked all he could think. It has an electronic gismo (little square wafer like device, can’t recall the name of it) on the battery side and it checked out without any errors. Still, this device seems the last resort and I wonder if it should be replaced. Any more possibilities?

    • @LowCountryHarleyDavidson
      @LowCountryHarleyDavidson  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      With fuel injection it is most likely you have an air leak. Replace manifold seals to start with and examine the throttle body as you are doing this. The IAC has a lot to do with idle control. Search on the net on how to clean the pintle. Thanks ~ Doc

    I've always been confused about when to use " blue " compared to "red " locktight. I know red is for permanent & you said it's in the chart....but could you kinda explain it in a nut shell for a idiot like me? Thanks in advance.

    • @PanM8
      @PanM8 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dave Metz, red thread lock is not permanent. It is however stronger than blue. You just have to follow the manual or learn where to use the compound. Clean threads are key. And a little goes a long way. If you do run into trouble with any thread locking compounds, a little heat on the fastener softens the compound. Stay away from green. It's typically called bearing mount. When I worked for Caterpillar, we used it on bearing cups and pin bushings. Really strong stuff. If I remember correctly, the green takes up about
      .005 in. Good luck.
