When I was a kid, I was a "Chevy" kid. But,I have had all sorts of cars. It's not about brand loyalty, it's about keeping any of the classics (and I mean that in the loosest definition) on the road; and sharing them with friends and family, and anyone who has even the SLIGHTEST interest. Fantastic video, well done Hagerty!
When we would go visit my Great Aunt and Uncle who lived in South Gate CA. We would take the 405 to their house and on the way north we would pass by Bill Stroppe's shop . The freeway was high enough that you could see into the backlot of his shop. There was some pretty awesome stuff that you could look at.
"Driving... is mental health for me" I feel the exact same way. Driving my MX-5 on canyon roads in my early 20's was like meditation, and it saved me from a lot of anxiety and stress. It was my escape... I hope I can afford one again some day soon, but they're getting expensive here in New Zealand. In the mean-time I've a Mazda Lantis Type-R project car to keep me sane. They're a gem of a coupe with a beauty of a V6 and handling like no other front-wheel drive car I've ever driven!
Fr tho they should get back to doing videos on owners experience and his own stories with the car not a host who tells everything, they were so good petrolicious
One of my wife's nieces had a Bronco for a few years. It was in awesome shape being a California Vehicle the entire time and then one day we heard they sold it for $13k. I was not happy after all they never mentioned they had it up for sale. I would have given them $15k for it in a heart beat. A 1972 4x4 Bronco is hard to come by these days and trying to find one that isn't a rust bucket is even harder.
Oz never got Broncos until the third generation in 1981, but I got sick of waiting in 1978 and bought a short wheel base F100 302 ci 4x4. Not quite the same but I fell in love with that beast anyway, especially after my first-born son was conceived in it ;-)
Jason from Maryland here. Want to do an episode on my Brother and I? Classic early Jeep Cherokees. YT, 'American Cherokees USA". Why I drive, an 86 AMC Jeep Cherokee, knowing im driving the beginning of the early small SUV...i get looks every day...35 years old and can leave you in the dust on the turns! ...just sayn
Stroppe caught FOMOCO’s eye well before his Baja exploits, he was instrumental in FOMOCO’s success with Lincolns in the Carrera Panamericana in 1950s, building stock cars for Mercury in early 1960s and “tuning” the 1968 CJ Mustangs prior to the 1968 Winternationals. Stroppe bled Ford blue!
Hey y'all we have a 94 bronco were trying to fix it up but my dad has a bad back and I dont ever have the time to do any thing on it and we parts for it but only few parts
The automatic transmission was not available until 1973. So this was added or did the Stroppe Baja come with this in 71 ? I would assume it has power steering?
I also noticed it had an air conditioning compressor. I bought a 1971 Bronce new. Power steering was not available. Power brakes were not available and air conditioning was not available. So, either this truck has been modified or Ford allowed Stroppe to add features not available when ordered through a dealer.
My neighbor has a Stroppe. It's in kinda bad shape though fairly rust free. What would the value of my neighbor's be? Heard there was only 500 made, is that true?
The right man with the right mentality in the right car in the right landscape , love a car like that , love a storage area like that , love wall to wall anything that makes you happy ,..in the dry this pisses me off but i respect to the man , but as am stuck here in ' PC ' [ ' politically correct ' , maybe not actually just run for the elite . ] Britain , im still pissed watching it ...GRRRR! !
The best part for me is seeing a survivor being driven as intended by someone who loves and appreciates it.
100%
Hagerty has been fuckin killing it! Real car content for real people who love cars. Period.
This is def an ad from Ford.. just in Time for the new bronco model…Content is good though!
@@Rob-dc8wi eehhhh. Probably. It's only an ad if you allow it to be though.
Actually not an ad, I can assure you. Just a cool guy who loves his old Broncos.
Oberlander is the perfect last name for this family. Great story and video!
I remember when Hagerty was mainly a classic car insurer who'd sponsor Barrett-Jackson. Now though, even better.
Now we know where all the Broncos are!!
I love this series. Even before Petrolicious pissed the bed I was hooked on Why I Drive. The Ford GT film was my first. Keep em coming!

Eric Oberlander!! The perfect name & a perfect truck!

Very cool Eric. Those boys will remember all the memories.
My Dad had broncos growing up and I have fond memories of climbing in the back end and riding to school
Great story and video. I felt like I was there with the gentleman. I hope you all produce more videos like this.

Fr tho they should get back to doing videos on owners experience and his own stories with the car not a host who tells everything, they were so good petrolicious
What happened to Petrolicious? Out of the loop here!
That steering wheel is a thing of beauty
Such beautiful footage, well shot!
More! More! More! More stories in that shop!!
BILL STROPPE IS AN ICON IN MY LIFE!!! HE INSPIRED ME DURING MY DIVORCE. TO CREATE A NEW LIFE FOR ME.
Thanks Eric
Top-notch video
Nostalgic feeling
With a name like "Oberlander", you don't drive a Prius.
I'm watching and was wondering if he bought his neighbor's bronco, then I saw his shop full of them. That's a whole lot of Broncos.
Ya same. He said his neighbor asked if he could park his Bronco in his shop, the next thing he's talking about HIS Bronco like he confiscated it lol.
Wow. This was great! Thanks Hagerty!
What a great video and awesome shoot! This was a blast of a time!
Thanks for all the help in pulling this together!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! SO INSPIRATIONAL!!!! GREAT VIDEO AND THANKS FOR SHARING!!!
Cool stories & Bronco’s. 😎👍🇨🇦
Really enjoyed this piece. Well done 👍
The Bill Stroppe livery is iconic. Building an early 60s Mercury stock car tribute, planning to do the Stroppe livery on mine!

This is the kinda content we all need! Bravo Hagerty ... Bravo!

What an absolute beauty! And you can't buy that kind of patina.

YES, THE BAJA EDSEL CONCEPT IS STILL ALIVE AS WELL.
Hey y'all we have a 94 bronco were trying to fix it up but my dad has a bad back and I dont ever have the time to do any thing on it and we parts for it but only few parts
LETS HAVE A VIDEO OF OTHER RARE BRONCOS
Ford, Get this man a 2025 Stroppe Bronco
i like first generation bronco.
Love it and so glad it is not a closet queen !!!
Una purasangre 😶✌️👍🇦🇷
oh yes!
I love Ford Broncos, but they’re not that common (or even affordable) in Australia
The automatic transmission was not available until 1973. So this was added or did the Stroppe Baja come with this in 71 ? I would assume it has power steering?

Stroppe made the automatic and power steering available in the Baja Broncos starting in '71. Looks like this truck has both.

That's a good estimate on the number made. Worth a lot!
Now the stoppe is back for 2025. I want it so bad
It rolls over easy.
How do you get on - Why I Drive?

It's kind of sad to see all these bronchos collecting dust.
What wheels are those?
US Indy mags
Driving a $100,000 Bronco, with 15 other Broncos in the garage collecting dust. Fucking rich people.
Can a guy get his hands on one Bronco? JUST ONE?!?!
Boatarde congrats vai amém bom

> Normal PP being happy and cool
> SJWs failed to copy this concept, being unhappy to mess the world and buying crap new SUVs
i seriously do not understand why people keep records of old oil changes etc its insane to keep so much paperwork trash!
I think most folks who say things like this are incapable of actually having the diligence to keep all of them.
He is a brain surgeon. For real.
So you can't make memories with driving other brands ?... This was so blatant advertising...
Maybe, may not. It appeared more to be car content for car people who love cars.
Seems like he had plenty of memories in a Volkswagen
