Congrats on the new fur baby! Kittens are amazing :) 1 tip if you arent already doing it is get her crate (pet carrier) trained now. It makes it so much easier to get them in there for vet visits if they like going in it. All I did was take the door off, put a cat bed/blanket inside, throw some treats and toys in and they would just go in all the time on their own. Sometimes I would try to get them to go in there by pointing into it and encouraging them to go in (kind of like a game) I never forced them in the carrier. Now if I ever need them to get in it I can tap the edge of the carrier and they run into it!

I’m a vet student and the raw food diets are a big topic among vets right now. I think the major issue behind it is people that aren’t educated and it’s very easy to do this incorrectly which can be very detrimental. I’m glad you’re working with your veterinarian to develop a healthy raw diet plan!

I agree with you about letting the Cats out .
I live in the City .
People poison them . People let their dogs attack the strays ect . Some cats around where i live are TNR cats
" trap, neutered and released " who can't be adopted because of being feral or having Cat Aids. Why they are releasing them still where I live with no place for them to go just puzzles me. I feel so bad for them .
Many are just strays that are sick. This can spread to your cat like leukemia.
So its best being safe .
I saved several strays and they are indoor now for life .
I'm sure they miss being out but they had their time out .
They crave grass because of what they get from it like B17.
IT helps them with digestion when they don't feel good .
The problem now is pesticides that are sprayed on grass that can harm them.
    She is a cutie.
Hope to see more of her .
    Also your other animals.👍❤🐱

My cats get to watch bunnies and birds all day and take naps on the table. (Dont worry all of our pets are calm and good with each other). We have two cats and one cat that stays outside mostly. His name is Emmit. He doesn't want to be inside and we cant afford 3 cats so we just let him come in occasionally. One of our cats, Lego, used to live with Emmit. So they love seeing each other daily. My other cat, Max, isn't a huge fan of Emmit but there's hardly ever little cat punches lol

I agree. Our cats are indoor only. Safer for them in so many ways, and they are not eating the wildlife themselves
What I would say about a raw diet is that there are more pathogens in the home
Our cats have a canned and dry food diet. They get the canned stuff at night for a treat. Willow has allergies so all the cats have a rabbit-based food. No treats fir Willow which makes me a bit sad but better for his health
Have lots of fun with your new kitty

Agreed 100%%%%% I have 3 cats and I’m still in Nova Scotia in HRM, I’d never even consider letting my baby’s outside even if I was in a smaller town. Nothing is changing my mind ever, when I know they are inside I know they are safe they are my children simple 😊 they have so much stimulation inside, they have no desire to even try and get out so I’m lucky for that especially since my older girl Daisy who is (guesstimated 2-3 years old) is a rescue and she was found outside she loves being inside and I think she is terrified of being outdoors because they think she was abandoned, she was found the cold and they assume she survived outside for quite some time 💔😢 and my boys Oli & Malloy are brothers we adopted them together at 11 weeks and they have never been outside in their lives (except in cage from house, vet & spca to the car so that doesn’t count ? ) anyways I’m so lucky and blessed with my 3 fur baby’s they are spoiled rotten and live a pretty amazing life 💗 I’m so happy Misty has found the best momma and home she could possibly have, it looks like she has a ton of fun and stimulating things for her to do good luck on your kitty journey, I’m excited to watch her grow 💕💕

Based on her behaviour she clearly isnt a feral cat. Feral is more of a term for cat behaviour. She is very friendly. Non aggressive and seems to not have fear of humans. So she was probably born in a home and then maybe dumped by someone or just got out the house.

First of all, congratulations on your adoption! It's great that you saved her :) we need more people who save instead of purchasing.
Second of all, thank you for letting her inside. She will have such a better life as you stimulate her and she will be safe from cars and cats fights (because cats are so territorial that they fight and it can be really bad). I totally agree with that. Some people think a cat will be happier outside as it's what they were "meant" to be. But it's false. Cats need stimulation which can be provided inside too, so they will be perfectly happy and safe inside, with stimulation. Plus, studies have shown that they destroy ecosystems and wildlife (because they kill small animals a lot and not necessarily because they are hungry) and they are disease transmitters.
I love cats, I have 3. Living inside with windows to look out and stimulations is the best for them, safely and happily. :) Leash is also great because as you said they still love going outside, but with the leash they are safe.
Raw diet is also amazing. Kibble is too dry for cats. Leading to kidney failure and other disease. They need moisture in their diet, as much moisture as possible. I tried to cook to my cats but they did not want any of it. So, I still feed them kibble (I know, not ideal), but bought the best canned food (feline naturals) all natural, low phosphorus and sodium, and give them every day so that they get as much moisture as possible and good protein.
Water supply is super important too, you need to wash their bowl everyday because they produce a lot of saliva and it sticks to the bowl. So clean bowl and fresh water everyday.

One simple answer for the raw debate: Anybody can survive on canned and dried food but if it is your own choice would you eat that daily for the rest of your life?
It is a sensitive topic because owners who do feed processed pet foods feel like your are stepping on their toes. But can’t we just accept to disagree (as you said) than hating on each other. Every position comes from the intention to have the pet in mind - but we should stop having such heated discussions and rather start listening to one another. No person that feeds raw says that processed food is inevitably wrong and should be stopped completely, but it is undeniable that raw or homecooked is much more natural.
I dare any processed food feeder to eat exclusively canned and dried food for a week. Give me feedback how you liked that - I‘m sure you won’t starve but did it make you content and did you enjoy eating your food?

  • @duck_off_7829
    @duck_off_7829 4 ปีที่แล้ว

All 3 of my cats are leash trained and two of them enjoy it a lot so they demand daily walks which is good for them and for me tbh. The third one doesn't like it much so she stays home and enjoys that much better then going outside so actually walking them really depends on the cats personality but its easy to teach them and very rewarding if you go that route 😊

Definitely get her on that raw while she's young, I have a 7 year old who would rather starve herself than eat anything but kibble. I buy her the highest quality I can, but it's still kibble. I fed both of mine Royal for a long time, because the vet told me to, and I didn't think to question them. Then I heard some stuff, and actually did some research...and was NOT impressed. She's such a cutie! I can tell I'm a cat parent, because I didn't even notice all the noise she was making, it absolutely all turns into background noise after a while.

I also give you a huge applause too for a raw diet. I can't transition my cats unfortunately as I found out too late and they are old and set in there ways but future kitties and puppers will be all raw, pmr diet. There seems to be some confusion. (In the comments) FERAL Cats are cats that have lived their whole lives successfully in the wild. STRAY cats are cats that were once with humans but now are in the wild.

    • @EmmaLynneSampson
      @EmmaLynneSampson  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Yeah, but from what I was told, if she was born in the wild and never had a home before, that wouldn’t make her a stray so they would technically classify that as feral

Thats so awesome that you adopted a kitten! Also I work at petsmart and we adopt out kittens and cats from the SPCA Outaouais and she was one of the craziest kittens in the bunch being delivered to all the stores. Also I am not sure if you read french because the pet care associates don't always fully explain everything to you but by adopting from the SPCA Outaouais the cat must remain an indoor cat (duh you already are cuz you are a good pet owner) but the only way they can go outside is on a leash or something they can actually and I've seen them do it when they take the cats away because the owner didn't listen and made them an outdoor cat. Also I believe on her paperwork she was estimated to be 12 weeks at the time of being at the petsmart location but I could be completely wrong. She is so sweet and beyond happy in her new home. :D

I 100% agree with you in the fact that cats should be kept indoors and with raw food. My cats were once indoor/outdoor and all they wanted was to be outside. I took one of my cats to the vet for a wellness exam and dicussed this topic. I really wanted them to be indoor and i thought it was impossible. She gave me some tips and I tried them and now my feline friends are living the indoor life. All I had to do is squirt them with a spray bottle or shake a can of coins near the doors when I used them. They learned they were bad. It's took 2 weeks for mine to get fully switch over.

Another point that I want to point out too, is that cats that are fed a kibble or wet food diet, are more prone to develop kidney and bladder stones later on in life. A commercial cat diet also tends to make cats gain weight more due to the grains and other additives that are typically found in cat kibble and wet food.
People always tend to forget that cats are Meat eaters, and not meant to eat a cat kibble or wet food, but since humans are all about faster, and more cost effective methods to feeding any animal, we tend to stick with the kibble based diets.
Also I wish to point out that cats shouldn't be outdoors. They are actually considered Invasive species because they will kill native birds and not eat them. They kill the birds to fulfill their hunting needs that aren't being provided to them inside the home, which is why most cats will beg to go outside because their not living enriching lives inside the home. I've also been seeing more and more cats go missing in my city (fellow Ontarian here too) because the owners will let them outside, or the cat will get out because the owners aren't doing anything to keep them mentally stimulated.

Technically speaking, feral just refers to any cat that was born outdoors and never had a home. As you said though, feral cats are often aggressive and unsocialized as they’ve never had human contact before. But if a feral cat is found young, they can easily adapt to humans

Thank you so much for adopting a cat from Québec, we have so many stray, feral and abandoned cats, it makes no sense.
I also don't believe in outdoor cats, my cat is strickly an inside cat and she always will be. The temperatures here's goes to both end of the scales throughout the year, I believe it's too dangerous.
I wish I had the balls to feed her raw, but I have free roam bunnies and it would be a bit too dangerous. I feed her acana kibbles which is mainly carnivorous.
Hope you're enjoying your new home ❤️❤️😻

my cat is indoor and outdoor. he is much more relaxed when hes outside. he usually just patrolls around the neighbor hood and looks for squirrels. we have a tracker on his collar so we know where he is at all times. therefore, it is very safe to have an indoor and outdoor cat if you live in a safe area. hes a beast. i totally agree with what your saying about the main roads n stuff. ☻

I live in mid Michigan in a smaller town, and this past year there have been a lot of outdoor pets snatched up by birds of prey. That would be just awful. One reason to keep a kitty cat or even smaller dog inside as much as possible

my cat is an indoor cat too, for 2 reasons,
1: We live right next to a main road and I'm scared she'll get hit by a car
2: I didn't want to spay her, because I would like to breed her when I move out (my parents don't want her to have kittens while I'm living with them 😂 fools......😂) so just In case she gets pregnant lol

I noticed you posted on Instagram that you use World’s Best cat litter, and I just wanted to let you know, it’s really not good litter!! it’s too dusty for their lungs can handle, often times causing upper respiratory infections. when I first got my cat, I was recommended that brand and used it, quickly learning that it was a huge mistake. I started looking in depth into the brand and product, learning it’s causes allergies and infections in a lot of cats! I really don’t recommend anything other than Tiki Cat Pretty Litter, or Nature’s Logic litter! i’ve used both for my cat and rabbits, and they are amazing litters!! they’re completely organic, and highly recommended among the eco-friendly, organic pet markets in my area. I hope this info helps :)
Also, LOVE the raw diet!! it helps eliminate natural body odor, so my Russian Blue never stinks and neither do his poops

It upsets me that my cat is allergic to everything because I thought feeding him canned cat food once as opposed to the raw diet he grew up on was a good idea when I was running low on money. Now he can only eat hypoallergenic food otherwise his whole body breaks out in scabs and as he has FIV, I have to be even more careful about breakouts as infections could be deadly and such. I support both raw and kibble, as long as it's high quality, just hate seeing owners feeding their cats the cheapest crap off the supermarket shelves. Like each to their own, but cheap supermarket crap is like fast food to us in the sense that it may fill you up at first but there's no nutrients and will come out the other end in a not so nice way! My cats hypoallergenic food is hella expensive and costs more than my own food lmao

Royal Canin is awful. After working in a pet store I learned just how bad it was. Sadly there are people who practically worship it because it's sold in vet clinics.
Also, totally interested in raw diets and how you're doing it, so would love to see a video on it in the future once you've gained more experience!

I have a 6 month old bengal kitten that eats royal canin due to it being what her breeder fed her. Her poop is the worst smelling thing ever and goes through the entire house. I thought there was something wrong with her but this just proves its the food. I will be switching to raw soon

I own a very large tabby act that lives with my dad (my parents are divorced). When we adopted him form the spca i told him that my cat must be an indoor cat and warned him about all the dangers to the wildlife and to my cat. Up until this year, my dad has respected the fact that my cat is indoors, now however, my dad is letting him outside even though ive kept trying to tell him not to. I also live in canada and ive seen coyotes in my backyard!! Im terrified hes going to end up ingured or dead. My dad says im overreacting. How should i respectfully tell him that i want my cat to stay indoors? I live with my mum most of the time and my dad wont listen.. Any advice helps!!

    • @christinakenward8208
      @christinakenward8208 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Why can’t the cat live with your mom? My mom has had a decent amount of cats in her life and they’ve all been indoors. My dad had a cat when I was a kid and he was allowed outside, one night he never came back. My personal theory is that Spunky is literally now my dad’s neighbours cat because they got a cat that looks identical to him but I’ll never really know. He could have been eaten by a coyote for all we know. I hope not but I have no way to find that out and I’d rather not. There are risks to outside cats no matter where you live and if your dad is like mine at all (doesn’t really care abt animals and their personal safety) then don’t have the cat with him. If it’s not possible to have the cat with your mom tell your dad even I say to please keep kitty inside so something bad doesn’t happen, use my old cat as an example if you want. Good luck I hope it goes well! Wishing you and your the best :)
