But still the Blade of Olympus wasn’t created from Kratos’ power, it was created by Zeus’. Each weapon that Kratos has stolen was taken and utilised to kill its former owner. My point is that the Blade wasn’t dependent on Kratos’ powers because Zeus created it. He tricked Kratos into draining his godly power into the Blade with the premise of great power.
To clarify! In god of war 3 after the credits there is a scene which shows tracks of blood leaving down the cliff. Long story short, its an open ending and kratos escaped somehow
I always thought it was because he wanted to end like the first game, when Athena saved him from the death and put him on the Olympus, but this time nobody could save him.
Kratos was already dead before this scene anyway. He's been in and out of Hades so many times it wouldn't even be a big problem for him to escape probably.
Invader Dim if you remember from god of war 1 the gravedigger said he would claim kratos’ body just like his mother and his brother Deimos that’s why I think the gravedigger has a very important role in this next GOW
The fact this was 6 YEARS AGO is crazy. Then Ragnarok and Valhalla are an absolute BANGER I can only imagine the next one Norse Mythology just opens up a whole new realm. Them seeing the Egyptian god. That would be a crazy switch up
A lot in this ending scene. Athena's clearly been corrupted in this spritual form, as she was very insistent on getting the power of Hope from Kratos to use it for her own selfish gain (it's right to put it in my hands, give it to me) and very likely to start her own rule over mankind (worse than what the Greek Gods have made). Kratos, sensing what Athena's selfish intentions, denies everything she's prying about (where did you get the power, how did you find that) and rightfully goes against her, much to her frustration (you owe me this, i gave you this and you need to give me that in return). Kratos rightfully cuts her off (i owe you nothing) and intends to finish her off (my vengeance ends now), because in spite of this new deeper regret of what his vengeance had caused, he knew that Athena would only make things worse with that power and enslave mankind. But since he couldn't kill Athena with the blade as he attempted to get rid of her, he decided the best next action was to kill himself and give that power of hope back to the people. At least, he could do something right in the long line of atrocities and terrible deeds he committed. Kratos fully expected himself to die, but he was willing to with that satisfaction of not having another god rise to tyranny and that he gave the people a power they rightfully deserve (freedom of hope). And now after Valhalla, I can say that the God of War has redefined himself as the God of Hope. Pandora would be proud to see that.
I feel like he noticed that his vengeance brings nothing to him and some moments before he says Pandora died because of his need for revenge, so i think his real intent was to kill himself, after all the problems he had caused.
He could've easily killed Athena there and she's literally cowering, knowing that he could destroy her existence with a single swipe. This is the end of Kratos' Journey, he got his vengeance, he doesn't care about Athena. My take is that after Zeus' death, he realised what he has done and that his vengeance couldn't bring his wife and daughter back, nor Pandora. He stands there, knowing that living like this is suffering. Athena is a piece of **** and killing her would be mercy at this point, something Kratos never did (or rarely). He killed for vengeance. Always. Now he let her live to suffer.
For me I personally just interpret it as coughing, because that's truly all he can do. he's left emotionless, no peace, no sadness, no anger, just hopelessness.
@@ManBootyToucher Before the scene fades, I think the sound Kratos made is similar to the grunts after a long day of work. It's like he's finally earned his rest after tirelessly finishing what he's set out to do.
I love how Kratos went through hell and back(literally) just to appease the gods so they'll get rid of his nightmares. When all he had to do was acknowledge his past and forgive himself for what he did. Which is one of the most human things in the world to do.
Dude, how do you expect him to "accept that" if he has a punishment by the gods where he is forced to watch all the bad things he did as nightmares while he sleeps? It never was a question of acknowledgement, but of not even being able to do it
Athena is the actual villian of the game she knew that Kratos would kill all the Titans and gods and she was planning to take the power of hope from Kratos so that she would be the queen of mankind and if Kratos gave the power of hope to Athena I think she would betray and kill Kratos as he will be weak and he will stand up against athena
For those that dislike this ending, Kratos is like batman, once there is no evil left there's no point in their existence. Besides, he had every reason to kill himself as he was going to be consumed by evil anyway.
After that happens, we see the credits scene that turns out see the blood leading cliff we realized Kratos still alive after he stabbing himself. In God of War Ragnarok, Kratos tells Freya about his death propechy that he said to her "Death can have me when it earns me."
Okay now I remember the ending, been so long since I played. This also explains why in the newest game the Norse gods are evil and their enemies are good. All the world’s evils from Pandora’s box infected them.
4:32 I appreciate this line more in context of the later games. I have a theory about the destruction of the world. Kratos killed the GREEK gods, then doesn't that mean that only Greece is destroyed, the characters may think that it's the world, but it could be only Greece
You just contradicted yourself. The Greek Gods rule over everything. Zeus, the sky. Poseidon, ALL water. Not just the Greek sky or Greek air. Kratos restored humanity by giving the power to humans. Not gods.
There are references in the series that there are other possible gods that just the Greek ones, with there demise the new ones can now step in. Hence why God of war 4 is in development
It doesn't show it on here, and I don't know if it's on both PS3 and ps4, but there's one more cutscene in the end that just gave me the most chilliest chills I've ever had in my life.. Maybe GoW IV?
The moment at 2:54 always makes me smile. It's just something about destroying an entire pantheon of God's that feels so horrifying yet incredible. Also the music and score in this scene makes you feel like you did something wrong, in a way, Kratos felt the guilt and regret that got passed over to God of War 4. In this scene, he knew that he did what should be impossible and nearly paid the ultimate price of his life. EDIT: imagine writing better about the ending of a god of war game than the geography of eastern africa lol
This plaque also depends on the god's duty in the world.(Poseidon: Floot / Hades: The sould of the dead enter the world / Helios: The sun vanishes / Hermes: Flies cause diseases and death / Hera: Plant die off / Zeus: Thunder and storms appear) When he killed Athena, however, Greed would escape her as well. But as you can clearly see Athena is still greedy after her 'death'. I uses the quotation mark because Athena still is somehow alive
God of war ragnarok could have been much better, for example, if kratos had a flashback about this scene, and then we could get an explanation to how he got to the Norse mythology
I agree ragnarok would’ve been way better if we got Kratos flashbacks or anything Greece related but they probably couldn’t do that since Santa Monica studios is not on good terms with T.C. Carson
and not giving his power to Athena, he assured that wouldn't be any gods to monopolize it and spreaded it (hope) to everyone on earth, so everyone could be his/her "own god".
same here!! :D hey did you notice that when hit himself with the sword and the power left , athena said , they dont know what to do with it ...so maybe they are the odin and his crue ?
Box or no box, Kratos... hope and fear and love and hate exist in every one of us. The question is... which will you choose to let guide your actions? Each choice we make... shapes our world.
XstylePheonyX Yeah, I totally forget it. But he has a purpose back then. To take revenge. Now he fulfilled his mission. Why would he fight his way out of hell? He chose to die.
Maybe we will find out in God of War 4 :P He died many times and returned with more or less of a purpose, so maybe something happened there while the credits were rolling.
And then Tyr dragged his ass to Midgard, had Freya revive him, introduce Laufrey the just to him, produced Loki and is going to kill Odin in Ragnarok. What a guy.
You people don't get it. In this death, there are no gods to set him back or send him away to a place he doesn't want to go. In this death, Kratos is finally reunited with his family. It's a happy ending.
Michael Nguyen hahaha not really, kratos cant go to the paradise anymore, didnt you play Chains of Olympus? So no, he will not see his old family again
traffly nah that ending was with the original god of war 3 ending in 2010! Not the remaster! I thought you people watch marvel movies as they clearly have post credit scenes! They were put and popular back then too smh
Wow. some people don't seem to understand that kratos gave hope to mankind by killing himself... he completed his vengeance and in one last act of defiance to the gods, he gave hope to mankind, so that they may prosper on earth without the rule of the gods. Athena just wanted to restore the reign of the gods...
Sony confirmed that God of War 4 will have the same Kratos from God of War 3 and that it is set many years after 3. That would mean the world somehow healed itself and Kratos moved to Scandinavia. But how?
Not actually a deus ex machina. Kratos would have an _easier_ time getting out of the underworld since the entirety of the Greco-Roman world has been consumed by Chaos. There'd _literally be nothing_ preventing him this time around. However....Athena could go to Norway....
actually it was only Greece that was destroyed not the whole world though the fallout detrimentally effected mankind due to the fact that Kratos returned hope to the entire world instead of giving it to that bitch Athena, places like Scandinavia and regions beyond Greece would be safe from the destruction of Greece, I guess its a pantheon to pantheon regional thing but anyway the world didn't die just Greece.
I dont care what anyone says I think the series should have ended here. Having Kratos survives and the world continue completely undermines the ending to this game. Kratos killing all the gods, the world, then himself felt like a fitting end, and Kratos final sigh as he bleeds out was perfect. It sounded more like a sigh of relief than of pain, for theres no one left to kill. His labor, and his story, is complete...Until they make a one and then its not. Cant Kratos just rest in piece?
C c Then you never saw the secret ending portion of this game lol. Kratos survives, and wants to survive, which is why he limps into the ocean, and goes wherever the current may carry him. The ending basically holds out on it's own, but at the same time is a great cliffhanger that hints out a potential future game. It's just my opinion so you can disagree, but it seems that the devs thought out this ending perfectly 👌.
yeah Ive seen the post credit scene. I thought he was jumping off the mountain like in the first game, only this time Athena wasn't there to save him. But to be fair thats just my interpretation of that scene. In all honesty I think they put it there so there would be a little ambiguity to the end, or so they could bring him back if they wanted, or maybe even because they thought people would be pissed if Kratos definitively died. Either way I just wish this new game was a new character with a new story. (though I'll admit, the GoW fanboy in me is happy to see him again)
@Shaanyboi if you listened to what athena said, when kratos opened pandoras box he absorbed hope but released the evils into the world. she actually directly says that zeus was obsessed with kratos' death, and that he was consumed by the evil fear. if you really want me to go into detail zeus was afraid that kratos would kill him because he killed/imprisoned kronos.
"That was meant for me, they will not know what to do with it". She was hinting new God of War game, where you will have to face other gods from other mythology's. Pretty interesting.
I actually think he was saved and healed by somebody. Not athena but there are plenty other gods that are still alive. Kratos actually killed only the "great" ones also Aphrodite is still alive. With the true enemy revealed (the great evils) there is a reason for him to go back in time again
It would have been nice if Kratos had not killed himself. Or at least not have left the godly powers going about in the world with no one to control them. Now everyone's screwed. Thanks, Kratos.
Now... What about Athena? It is possible that she was infected with the Evil Greed. This could explain why she desired the power of Hope so badly and rebuild the world as the only goddess. The only thing that makes no sense is that whenever Kratos killed a god, the Evil he was infected with causes a plague.
He got on a boat and sailed to Egypt and hung out there for a bit, before being dragged into a portal to Midgard/Norway by Two wolves. After that, he meet Faye and settle down until God of War: 2018.
This games connected to the new god of war, somehow. The stranger (first boss) you encounter makes some references towards this game talking about how kratos came from another realm, and also mentions "I thought you God's were supposed to be so much better then us" or something ruther. I'm assuming he's referring to the Olympian God's from the realm that kratos is originally from. When kratos meets the witch in the forest, she tells kratos that he can't hide his past from his son forever, she's referring to this. Causing destruction and wreaking genocide on all the God's from the realm he's originally from.
Could Kratos go after the Egyptian gods next? Or the Norse gods? Or Yaweh??? Unless Kratos IS Yaweh/Allah/God of the Abrahamic religions that pretty much dominate two thirds of the world's theists!!!!
***** If you see the very last part of the video, he's laying on a Phoenix. When Phoenix's die, they are reborn from their ashes. Kratos skin is ash. Pretty sure there will be a sequel.
The way Kratos said "she died because of my need for vengeance" he sounded regretful, and I love that

You just contradicted yourself. The Greek Gods rule over everything. Zeus, the sky. Poseidon, ALL water. Not just the Greek sky or Greek air. Kratos restored humanity by giving the power to humans. Not gods.
+Paul Koroluk Oh yeah i forgot about that, thanks
There are references in the series that there are other possible gods that just the Greek ones, with there demise the new ones can now step in. Hence why God of war 4 is in development

I know
So right you were
He was a warrior who lost everything...he is the true meaning of a man...
If you believe in that, that will make your life be very sad.

@@StompDeni42Truth has always been sad.
@@razor8704 No.
Playing this to the end, correct me if i'm wrong I got the impression he sacrificed himself out of redemption without realising it
Yo. That's deep.
He stabbed himself to release hope into the world and knew he couldn't trust Athena anymore.
It's a Spartans job to fight forever but sometimes you have to find hope for your self.
Kratos might be dead but he's undoubtedly the greatest icon Sony has ever had.
bro u saw in credits na he is not dead and also hahaha gowv2018
and crash
if you notice he dies... on a phoenix to be reborn...
And then the sequels come running in...
+sean sortors Phoenix existed on Norse mythology, not in Greek
Andromeda Prima
the 4th one is going to be on norse mythology
Gaming Bunny well im going to buy it if they actually make it on the next one
Thats an eagle not a phoenix.A phoenix had 2 long "tails"
It doesn't show it on here, and I don't know if it's on both PS3 and ps4, but there's one more cutscene in the end that just gave me the most chilliest chills I've ever had in my life.. Maybe GoW IV?
yes baby it is confirmed gow4
This comment aged so well
I think it's when his body was gone I think. Just his blood on the ground.
This game needs a movie
Just start with GOW 3.
I love this game I always play it when beat it and I beat in 1 or 2 weeks
God of war ragnarok could have been much better, for example, if kratos had a flashback about this scene, and then we could get an explanation to how he got to the Norse mythology
I agree ragnarok would’ve been way better if we got Kratos flashbacks or anything Greece related but they probably couldn’t do that since Santa Monica studios is not on good terms with T.C. Carson
We already got that long time ago
and not giving his power to Athena, he assured that wouldn't be any gods to monopolize it and spreaded it (hope) to everyone on earth, so everyone could be his/her "own god".
if he was fucking dead ? how could he be in god of war 4 ?
you also came here because you was like wtf isn't he dead?
seems we all came here to refresh
Ward Meijer yea thats rite lol
same here!! :D hey did you notice that when hit himself with the sword and the power left , athena said , they dont know what to do with it ...so maybe they are the odin and his crue ?
+Henri Xhetani She's talking about the mortals most likely.
Now someone explain how he goes from having a giant hole in his gut to being a father in Norway.
They made a comic explaining it
When he stab himself he took the power from the Sword of Olympus
Florida right now 2:52
LOL
8 years later he returns with a *B O I*
God of Hope.
You have always been more than what others saw
Who's watching this now :'D
Box or no box, Kratos... hope and fear and love and hate exist in every one of us. The question is... which will you choose to let guide your actions? Each choice we make... shapes our world.
Thanks for watching & commenting!
@@MichaelXboxEvolved Thanks for replying to comments even after 14 years since you uploaded!
He survived this? THIS? A FUCKING HOLE IN HIS CHEST? HOW?!
Umm, check the first battle with Zeus in God of War 2? That is how it started, and still was here to beat the crap out of Zeus.
XstylePheonyX Hmm... We'll see.
In the first god of war he was hit by ares in the same way too and came back from hell.
And now he is back in scandinavia. Welp.
+Ataren ahhahahah
+Ataren 😂😂
ummm Aphrodite could be his baby momma ....
Michael Nguyen hahaha not really, kratos cant go to the paradise anymore, didnt you play Chains of Olympus? So no, he will not see his old family again
The first person to get covid 2:52
wonder how he survived this
He died on a Phoenix, a Phoenix is the symbol of rebirth. And it can be reborn from it ashes.
BlueDragon24 The world of GoW is shared by all the gods of every mythology. Not just greek.
I would love to see the Primordial deities in a possible sequence.
and the hope that was given to people was the internet
Hmm, I didn't even know there was one. After all these years
This is in my top 3 fav XBOX games!
Dominic Cleveland I believe you forgot the /s
Athena saying you dissapoint me Spartan while pulling the blade is cold as hell

Kratos said "fuck the blades" and started dropping haymakers on his ah.
He released hope to the world.

I wonder how they will explain how he survived this in god of war for ps4
notice where he died he died on top of a pheonix hinting at rebirth
You can see a scar on his abs in gow 4
Well, they don't
traffly nah that ending was with the original god of war 3 ending in 2010! Not the remaster! I thought you people watch marvel movies as they clearly have post credit scenes! They were put and popular back then too smh
I remember punching the shit out of Zeus for 5 solid minutes before realising that he was probably dead. Good times.
Wow. some people don't seem to understand that kratos gave hope to mankind by killing himself... he completed his vengeance and in one last act of defiance to the gods, he gave hope to mankind, so that they may prosper on earth without the rule of the gods. Athena just wanted to restore the reign of the gods...
Perfect ending to an exemplarly game, can't wait for God of War: Ascension!
are you still gaming today?
Anyone Noticed the Cringy Part of the game? 2:35
(The Storm Clouds on the top doesn't shake well with the camera prespective)
Glad I'm not the only one LMAO
Sony confirmed that God of War 4 will have the same Kratos from God of War 3 and that it is set many years after 3. That would mean the world somehow healed itself and Kratos moved to Scandinavia. But how?
Kratos (put Deus ex machina here) and ended up in Scandinavia.
Not actually a deus ex machina. Kratos would have an _easier_ time getting out of the underworld since the entirety of the Greco-Roman world has been consumed by Chaos. There'd _literally be nothing_ preventing him this time around.
However....Athena could go to Norway....
The story in GOW 4 implies that the world has healed, although the Greek pantheon no longer exists.
RawPower867 i guess
actually it was only Greece that was destroyed not the whole world though the fallout detrimentally effected mankind due to the fact that Kratos returned hope to the entire world instead of giving it to that bitch Athena, places like Scandinavia and regions beyond Greece would be safe from the destruction of Greece, I guess its a pantheon to pantheon regional thing but anyway the world didn't die just Greece.
THE VOICE ACTING IS SO GOOD !
LEGENDARY VOICE ACTING!
Alyson court! girl who voiced kasumi's English version from doa, take fucking notes!
So...you say that a sequel, that currently holds 95 on metacritic is a mistake?
dude, him jumping off a cliff is how he starts his day off
Most EPiC ending ever.
indeed it was, hope you're doing healthy and well
@Shaanyboi
if you listened to what athena said, when kratos opened pandoras box he absorbed hope but released the evils into the world. she actually directly says that zeus was obsessed with kratos' death, and that he was consumed by the evil fear. if you really want me to go into detail zeus was afraid that kratos would kill him because he killed/imprisoned kronos.
"That was meant for me, they will not know what to do with it". She was hinting new God of War game, where you will have to face other gods from other mythology's. Pretty interesting.
BallsToWalls
Uhh..no?, she meant mankind dude, Kratos gave the power of hope to humanity.
I love how Kratos just doesn’t care what’s really going on he just wants Zeus dead
I actually think he was saved and healed by somebody. Not athena but there are plenty other gods that are still alive. Kratos actually killed only the "great" ones also Aphrodite is still alive. With the true enemy revealed (the great evils) there is a reason for him to go back in time again
No the first game Kratos wanted to end
his life
Because of the Nightmares he had of his family
What a journey, very happy to see how far we come from this to a new God of Hope
It would have been nice if Kratos had not killed himself. Or at least not have left the godly powers going about in the world with no one to control them. Now everyone's screwed. Thanks, Kratos.
He gave the world the hope that was inside him so he kind of saved the world.
Schafer Witzel hope can't feed you.
Solaxe S dayum......
+Solaxe S nah but with it they can feed themselves those storms won't wage forever
And God of War 4 was released
It's not a Phoenix. It's the Eagle, what Zeus turned into when descending to Earth from Olympus.
he committed suicide on a phoenix😏😏😏😏😉😉😉😉😉hint hint
this dude gets it
Yep it's all a ploy, he rises again
i dont understand, can you explain the meaning?
Flawless WiLLmATiC the pheonix reborns from it s own ashes
I had assumed it was just a regular bird flying free, as to show that Kratos had finally let go of the past and had moved on.
Now... What about Athena?
It is possible that she was infected with the Evil Greed. This could explain why she desired the power of Hope so badly and rebuild the world as the only goddess. The only thing that makes no sense is that whenever Kratos killed a god, the Evil he was infected with causes a plague.
How do we go from god of war 3 to 4? Like didn’t he just die right here?
Old comment but Kratos is immortal. Ever since he became the Ghost of Sparta, he was cursed with immortality and will always come back no matter what.
He got on a boat and sailed to Egypt and hung out there for a bit, before being dragged into a portal to Midgard/Norway by Two wolves. After that, he meet Faye and settle down until God of War: 2018.
And so right after leaving Greece in total chaos and destruction Kratos begins his long journey to the north to start his new life
They should make a sequel. I dont like kratos dying. He should be REBORN!!!!!!!!!!
How
+1000 K its god of war lol
+Pallzed true
Done
wait until April 20th, my friend :)
Causing destruction and wreaking genocide on all the God's from the realm he's originally from.
turns out athena was bad
on this day i end this fucking game and i love it -2024

strange...it used to be HD :-/
I'm watching this in mid 2012 and still impressed with the graphics.
hello hope all is well merry christmas
Could Kratos go after the Egyptian gods next? Or the Norse gods? Or Yaweh??? Unless Kratos IS Yaweh/Allah/God of the Abrahamic religions that pretty much dominate two thirds of the world's theists!!!!
I think Kratos' story is over...
***** Isnt there a god of war 4

Marcus Dawn oh ok
***** If you see the very last part of the video, he's laying on a Phoenix. When Phoenix's die, they are reborn from their ashes. Kratos skin is ash. Pretty sure there will be a sequel.
Imagine how f***ed everyone would be if Odin managed to ascend the same way Athena did.
