Kratos kills the sisters of fate and goes back in time to prevent Zeus's betrayal.
Kratos battles Zeus, when he almost kills him, Athena appears and sacrifices herself to save Zeus. After this, Kratos travels back to the great war and forms an alliance with the titans to take down Mount Olympus.
The end begins....
Hey, can you explain me this? When Kratos returned in time to kill Zeus, is that means all people he killed after his "death", Teseus, Perseus, Prometeus, Icarus and the others, are alive now?

There's a theory that the island of the fates is so far away that it's not affected by the death of the gods, so by the time Kratos is fighting the sisters of fate his GOW 3 self is going around killing gods, either that or GOW 2 Kratos is a speedruner who got from Rhodes to the sisters of fate in the time it took his future self to retrieve the Blade Of Olympus to killing Poseidon.

I think its sick that Athena tells him that no son should destroy their own father. and in GOW4 you can see how killing Zeus messed him up a bit. Like how he would continuously try to hide that fact from Astraeus.

My problem with what Athena said is her implication that the reverse is completely fine, she just justified why Zeus went through all this underhanded shit because "Kratos is a threat" and their reasoning is because he killed Ares... Which was ordered to Kratos by Olympus...

Zeus was mad at him for the same reason he was mad at Ares in the first GoW: too much war. And on top of that, Kratos was always favoring the Spartans, creating an imbalance (i didnt understand that part myself, but im guessing its because he was also gaining too much power and zeus didnt like that?).
Also the fear that Kratos could do the same as he did to his father, Cronos, didnt help, cuz he was hungry for power and had a big the desire to rule over mortals as said by Atlas.

Love this ending because of Kratos hadn't been so blinded with rage he'd have gone back and stopped himself from killing his family, or better yet stop himself from going to the battle that ended with him pledging himself to Ares. How different things might have been had he not been stripped of his humanity.
To be honest, I think that was a fixed point in time.
It had to happen so that the world could be fixed.

Always preferred this design for Helios over his design in 3. He looks more majestic and not like a complete jackass.
Helios in Chains of Olympus looks better than his design here in 2. Also Hermes looks like ass. His hair is literally just on fire and so are his legs. Makes no sense

No doubt, best ending out of all the God of War games. Sets the tone and hype really well for the next game which is GoW III.
Honestly prefer god of war 2 over 1 as well. Just a lot more coherent and the development of kratos power is really satisfying in this game.

I remember skipping to play gow 2 with my older brother, great memories !! PS2 days were legendary
Add to that the fact that GOW 3 was exclusive to the ps3 so some of us had to wait even longer before we could get our hands in one. I remember having to spend a extra YEAR of waiting after the release. Time which I had to study my ass off because my father said I would only get a ps3 for Christmas if my grades were top notch. Once I finally got to play I was one of the most memorable experiences of my life because I had dam well earned it. To this day I finish GOW 3 at least once a year. It’s a bloody masterpiece😍😍

This game is tragic. Kratos is so consumed with rage, hatred, and a lust for revenge that he doesn't stop to think about being able to go back in time to save his family

I think the logic they were using with that is its a fixed point. No matter what Kratos could do to save his family, their death was gonna happen one way or another.

One thing I love of this ending is that Kratos could've just travelled back in time to prevent himself from slaying his family, but at this point he was so into destroying Olympus that he didn't even care anymore. He just wanted them all dead.
Really goes to show how absolutely unhinged old Kratos was.

Has anyone ever noticed during the game cutscenes, Kratos' blades are the same before his powers were drained into the Blade of Olympus? Yet he timeskips to his death, which were AFTER he drained them into it? Weren't his blades meant to be red colored when he steps through?

I think every time kratos has his god powers his blades turn into that colour. And since kratos has the blade his powers temporarily return to him
The thing that also changed in kratos from gow 1 is himself you can see his body is a lil bit dark cream and in this one his body is white
