Nico
Yes, youtube is complicated, but the more i know, the more i try, then i'm realize when all the things you have explained become true, at that time, it's becomes so much fun! Thanks!
That is music in my ears buddy! Cheers to that! 😃🍻 Oh yea, it really is my goal to truly understand how things work so that we can better plan ahead. And so much more to learn which I’ll always share. See ya! -Nico
You are a lifesaver. There is so much misinformation out there, especially in FB Groups that are spammed by people which looking for a shortcut. Thanks for your work, I can't imagine how much work it is as a 1 man team!
High 5 Dan! Oh yea, everyone wishes there were shortcuts but in the end we need to convince real people that our videos are worth watching. There is no shortcut to that. Haha, oh yea, building the whole tool is a ton of work. But I really enjoy it and over the years even I by myself can produce something of substance luckily. Still I have so much more I want to do. Stay tuned! 😃✌️
Definitely looks like a handy tool to have! I have seen the effects of answering a question that viewers are looking for based on YT traffic sources, and it is definitely a result I would like to see again. I can see this helping creators find under-served search results that could provide lots of long-term evergreen views and income.
It’s great to hear that you successfully created a video based on viewers’ searches! Keep it up Steve! :) Oh yea, in the end we need to provide what people look for and all sources that can tell us what they really want are useful for that. And like you say, having evergreen videos for exactly that builds up a channel in a sustainable way. 😃👌
Thanks a lot Kacey! Indeed, I wanted Morningfame to point out the good things in all the data that allows us to take action. Btw, in case you find other good things in your whole data, feel free to let me know. Maybe Morningfame could create a notification for this as well. :)
There is no “Evergreen” tab actually. The tab I am referring to here is the “Algorithm” tab. Or were you looking for the report with the search terms? That’s the “TH-cam Search” section inside the Algorithm tab. There is a button called “Top Search Terms”.
How many different notifications and tips are there? The ones I've gotten so far were "new search term" (tips 4, 5, and 6) and "new recommending channel" (tips 7, 8, and 9).
Sorry, it doesn’t. But it has an extensive keyword research tool for optimizing your videos. Considering this, what do you aim to do? Maybe Morningfame can help you with that as well in a slightly different way.
Thanks pal! These little things can really make a difference. :) Do you think “let me explain you” is acceptable as some sort of sloppy speaking or does it just sound wrong?
I always wonder if TH-cam shows us the full search term people used. I regularly get views from the search terms I never rank for like 'inkscape' or 'sewing'. They are relevant but even in the first days my videos are nowhere to be seen in the search results for such broad topics, and I see these views long after that. I'm not sure I've ever got views from the terms I actually optimized for ;) They are usually relevant anyway so I'm not complaining, just puzzling over it since I first started to look into analytics.
Oh yea, interesting point Marta! I always wondered about it, too. I think the reason is that TH-cam Search shows personalized search results. That means that your biggest fans who watch your videos all the time may see your video high up in the search results for an otherwise way to competitive search term. But when you look up this search term in incognito mode like you usually do to check your rankings, that personalization is off. Thus you don’t see your own video. And that reflects the general reality of course because only very few viewers actually see your video up high. Do you think this could explain what you see as well?
@@Morningfame That's a good explanation too and almost as hard to prove as my 'youtube conspiracy theory' ;) But I'll do an experiment, another video about one of my very competitive search terms I get the views from I'll optimize for it directly despite my FFFA rating and see what happens. That will be fun!
@@TechieSewing Oh, please don’t do this. The chance that someone sees your video ranking higher than it normally would is too low. Just to double check, you only get a few views from these short search terms, right? What I explained is actually more than just a theory: When you search for your own videos while you are logged in to your own TH-cam account, you always see your own video ranking higher than in incognito mode. That is the personalization happening. And that is something that can happen for any other viewer who regularly watches your videos.
@@Morningfame I still have my regular viewers plus most of my initial views are from Facebook group :) But I've just checked, 13% views of a particular video are from search, all terms TH-cam shows me are FFFA kind, maybe some Es mixed in. For the last week it's 14.8%, the only search term is one of those too competitive ones. I see some definitely personal ones too sometimes, like 'fba inkscape marta' or 'marta sewing patterns'.
@@TechieSewing Interesting! Your personal search terms are particularly great to see because that shows how many big fans you have. 😃👌 Oh yea, what you observe with these search terms showing F grades is something quite common. The reason is that the most successful terms for Search show up and that is above the usual performance of your channel. It’s a bit tricky to explain but we usually see the exceptions to the rule of optimizing for DDDB grades here. The problem is that you just look back. Hindsight. But when you optimize you want certain guarantees that your video will actually rank. So foresight. And to make your video ranking with a high chance, you need low enough competition = good grades. Unfortunately, you can expect to publish a video that becomes one of those exceptions to the rule. So optimizing for F grades is a big gamble. Not impossible of course. Just a big gamble.
I love your work. I've used MorningFame. But I want to say that "metadata" is nothing nowadays. Maybe you won't understand because your channel size is still small. At the bigger scale, the meta data, and the search term is useless. Think big. Look at the bigger channel, you will understand what I say. The traffic from search is only 5%. Browse and Suggestion and Recommendation is 95% the total traffic.
Thanks pal! Oh yea, I totally understand. What you explain here is what I discuss in the context of the Search, Home and Suggested Videos algorithms. The “metadata thinking” is what we learn in the context of TH-cam SEO which is meant to trigger the Search algorithm. But the Home (Browse) and Suggested Videos algorithms which are the top traffic sources for large channels, work in completely different ways. And metadata does indeed not play an important role there. If you are curious to know more, feel free to look for my content about the Home and Suggested Videos algorithms. Cheers! :)
Search discovery percentage is tricky because if a channel is found via a video result in search, and then because of that, another video by that channel ends up on the viewer's home page, gets watched, and then the viewer ends up watching a total of 10 videos, their percent of views from search is 10%, but the other 90% never would have happened without that first search view. I don't know if there is any way for a channel manager to view any sort of viewing session data like that, but I assume not. I am only able to base this off of my own behavior as a viewer, and the way TH-cam reacts to me.
@@CarsSimplified You are right! This can happen like that. Indeed, it’s almost impossible to see that in your analytics. But for large channels you have a wide range of different channels types and which traffic sources they depend on. Some large channels still have TH-cam Search as their biggest traffic source - e.g. tech review channels - and then you have channels that don’t depend on TH-cam Search at all - e.g. pure entertainment channels. I actually once made a study about the different types of large channels: th-cam.com/video/_yKki7gjlgk/w-d-xo.html
Truth be spoken! This matters. Plus listen to what people tell us they are interested to watch. The choice of the video topic itself makes a huge difference. In a sense this is also under the umbrella of “good content” alongside with well made videos.
