I am so glad that this finally found its way onto the internet. its so difficult finding copies of this due to GGV being out of business and none of the bigger train video publishers picking them up
The Climax Loco would have been better to use for this "rock" service trains due to the fact that it would have had 12-driving wheels vs, the 8 from the low wheeled Mikado and had better tractive effort on a 2% grade. The fact that the Climax Loco was a more difficult engine to drive, just shows what nimrods these guys were and lack of appreciation for what certain Loco's were designed to do. Hah, I bet the "younger engineer's" could have showed the old fart's up in fashion if given the chance. @30:11-30:28 you can see how barbed wire fences do not keep cows "In or Out". @32:20-32:30 it is 6-loads of gravel/dirt & not rock, big difference. @36:25-38:40 the Cry Babies come out complaining about "comfort" instead of being the steam preservationist's that they should be and loving the fact that they have a almost 100+ year old steam loco running and working! (Hint; If you want comfort, go buy some heavy weight Pullman Passenger cars.! @49:30-50:00 The engineers are not running the loco in a low gear speed and are trying to run it like the lowboy Mikado and she only got 1-wheel slip and they cry again. I couldn't watch anymore of this crying and bitching after 50-mins pf watching and hearing nothing buy complaints. Voted the video down and not worth subscribing to this channel. 👎👎👎
Numsckull. Any geared engine is rough to run. Shays shake, Heislers vibrate from side to side. I guarantee you these men love these geared engines as much as the next guy, it's just that it can be hard to focus on your job of operating the locomotive while it's bouncing and hopping around at a whopping 8 MPH. You love your mom, but sometimes she's a bitch, right? That doesn't mean you don't love your mom. Watch the later videos on MRSR's engines, geared engines also weren't built to last as long as rod engines. As of mid May 2024, they aren't even planning to restore any of the geared engines.
Also it's importnat to note that while these beautiful machines are wonderful peices of machinery, it's also their job at this time to move rock, to get the line reopen, of course they're gonna beat the hell out of the engines.

Thank you so much!!! I've been trying to get a copy of this for YEARS!
YES! Someone preserves this masterpiece
Hearing steam engines on their hands and knees is a religious experience
And there never going to "Break" either, 😊✊🚂
Hopefully you have the thunder under heaven series as well, would be nice to see that online
The editing in the opening few minutes is 🤌
Masterpiece
patching it while it’s hot?
Was Mount Rainier actually paid for the work?
Yep. Tacoma paid MRSR for the use of their engines.

You express as much criticism as both Siskel AND Ebert!
