I Have one of these and it's the best homage I ever perched. I also have the homage of the tutor black bay. It is good as well. I have some expensive watches and ventage watches. I love this watch and gets more wrist time than most.
Thanks for the review. I bought the original Omega about 40 years ago when I first earned my professional pilots license. It has gained a lot of value over the years so it stays in a secure place now. I really like to look of the omega so I am strongly considering ordering this one based on your detailed review. I’ve also watched a couple of your videos about TuneECU which were very helpful as I learn to update my Triumph 1050ST. Cheers.
It's not a PD-1701 version 3 but version 4. It can be said because of the absence of the two dots at 12 o'clock mark and the tachymeter (on v.3 is written "tachymetre") starts from 400 (on v.3 is from 500) and the bezel is different
Finally, a great common sense video. I’m right with ya. Yeah, I picked up the Pagani but ditched the 25 cent strap and ordered a ZULUDIVER elastic Bond style strap. It upgrades the watch dramatically. I do wish Pagani would loose the Pagani name and just use their logo instead. Thanks for sharing.
I bought this exact watch from Ali Express for £45 ($65). It really is a beauty. The only thing that I don't like about it is the strap width- it's only 18mm, I much prefer a wider one. The watch itself, as you mention, is smaller than you'd expect and quite light, which im not used to as I usually wear a submariner homage. Had a few admiring comments about it, it certainly looks a lot more expensive than it is. The movement keeps the time pretty much perfectly too. Overall - it's a winner.
The watches from Pagani are superb... Their bracelets sometimes have wonky clasps though, which I can deal with. I just tossed a "James Bond" striped NATO strap on mine and it looks amazing.
The best way to remove blue protective stickers from the crown and the pushers - Scotch Tape (or equivalent). Touch the blue sticker with the sticky part of your Scotch Tape, press, and then simply peel off. You're welcome! p.s. Amazing skill setting the date - you obviously have a great deal of experience with watches 👍🏻
yes there very good watches . i have the older version with S/S bracelet it is excellent value indeed. the lume is naff but works in total darkness for a short couple of hours. thanks for the video . the black denim type style looks nice on this piece.
Thanks for the great video. I share with you the same concept. It was as if me speaking & showing my collection. Question: I have been recently looking for a pagani PD-1701 with the EXACT bezel like the speedmaster, but I couldn't find any! Like almost all the sellers add photos of the watch with the original bezel look but when you actually get the watch you get the bezel similar to the one you are showing in the video. Any idea about a source from which i can guarantee getting the correct bezel on this watch?
This is a nice watch but my pick for best Speedy homage is the Phylida SP-31. It comes in 3 versions, the classic moonwatch, the TinTin and the reverse panda. All come with a mechanical chronograph Seagull ST-19 movement. They cost a little more and can be hard to find in stock but is well worth it if you can get one.
I will be honest I am not that into mechanical movements. The service that has to be done every few years is one thing... But when you have like 20 watches, you don't wear the same one every day... so if I had a bunch of mechanicals I would be constantly winding and setting them... I tend to refer quarts, and especially solar quartz. In particular, the Bulova 266Khz movements are just excellent, and insanely accurate... Just change the batter every few years and go. On my Citizen solars and my G-shocks, I might have to swap out a solar cell in like 15 or 20 years... Its so easy to just grab it and go...
I'm with you on Solar Quartz but I'm not a fan of regular quartz watches. I own about 40 mechanical watches and only wind them when I wear them. I see no reason to keep a watch wound when I'm not wearing it. Just puts to much wear and tear on the watch.
Yeah, but when the watch has the date or day of week, then its a pain to have to set it every time you wear it. If it was the same watch I wore day after day, then I would likely go with a nice mechanical...
@SquireSCA HaHa! Okay! I understand having to reset a watch with a perpetual calendar but the day and date! I'll be nice and not say what I really think. 😁😁
@@sinjinadams2862 It's fine, if you want to call me lazy, I have thick skin... haha I just want to grab the watch I want to wear for that day and not have to dick around with winding it and setting it every time. Not to mention, quartz tends to be more accurate, especially my Bulova 266Khz ones that are accurate to within 10 seconds per YEAR. No replacing of springs... just toss in a new battery every couple years and they good...
@@SquireSCAtake a look at your tach. It starts at 400. There is another homage offered by Pagani that starts with 500 which is more in line with the real Omega. Same for the dot over 90 and the 2 dots at the 12 position.
I mean, some are... I would like to have a legit Tudor, or Rolex or Omega at some point... But for now, the homages work, as well as my Citizens, Tissot and some others...
Yeah, IMHO. I prefer quartz, which I know is heresy with the watch crowd, but replacing a battery every couple years, is better than getting the watch serviced and the spring replaced, etc... Not to mention quarts is more accurate, and when you have a lot of watches, if you don't wear the automatic every day, then everything you wear it you have to wind it and set the time and date. I prefer the larger size of the Bulova, but that's just me.

Funny you mention the Black Bay homage... Just posted a review of that. haha
Speed master...

Glad you enjoy! Have two more watches coming... a nice Casio Edifice. Chrono, as well as a Bertucci A2T field watch in Titanium...

Yeah, I just got a decent NATO strap in olive drab for mine, and it looks great.
Thanks for the review. I was looking at the PD1701 with the exact colour and strap as you have shown so thanks for sharing.
I completely agree with your point of view, thank you for this video and that decent alternative.
Probably get one of these later this year

Just a suggestion, could you please face the watch at the camera so we can see it better. Thanks.
Yeah, sometimes I get the angle off and don't realize it till later... sorry.

Not really sure. I saw this one and it's a great watch so I grabbed one. Haven't really researched beyond that.
They changed the bezel design. I missed that.
Phylida, another, great homage. But even better, it's mechanical with the old Swiss Venus movement
Speedmaster not Seamaster. Other than that good review! Thank you!

Why on earth have they dropped the iconic 2 dots at 12o'clock ?
I would never choose this version over the previous 2-dot one.
I don't know, never heard of the 2 dots so I don't miss them. lol
The 2 dot clone comes on the 500 tach version. Same for the dot over 90.
