People don't give sound designers enough credit. Like with movies, sound design is everything. If your movie has horrible sound design, it'll take me out of the film. The illusion is enhanced with good sound design and these people deserve a lot of praise for their work.
foley artists and sound designers are the most underrated part of movie making and probably the second most important part....sound is what makes it believable
i was on a video about the remaster of AOE2, many nostalgic fanboys say the og are better , while i replied the og were clumsily composed with weird sororities and the new ones were more medieval sounding, and then there's an idiotic guy who came to annoy me . he said that just cause he's a "composer" the og would be made with better talent, which is just plain stupid. he don't tell us how for which studio he worked so i assume he passed himself for a troll with a big vocabulary, with technical words. if he was a composer , he's then incapable to distinguish his own style to decent instrumentation. this was enough for him to get thumbs by naive fanboys. that's why i despise audio designers since then. i dunno why i tell you this but it's very present on my mind.
People think it's easy but all you see in this video is someone being told to do something when everything is already setup for him. You have to be hella creative to even think of how they picked which sound is perfect or what objects they found and experimented with to find the right sound. It takes a lot of time, creativity and hard work.
This is my dream job! To put sound in a movie like wind, the crackling of fire etc and make it sound like it is actually happening is the ultimate producers test.... There's no subjectivity like in music, as in it's not opinion based, you cant say something is good based on your taste... You either make it sound real or you don't....
When YT experts have it all wrong. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sound_design Freakin Foley is just a part of what Sound Design is. Conclusion: It is labelled properly.
@@EminoMeneko playing guitar is part of music, but you don't call it a music video if you're talking specifically about guitars. Are you even a professional in the business?
Not to sound like an annoying pedant(which I am coming across as), but sound design for musicians tend to be more about synths or adding something tonal. EQ and compression are more of the mixing tools for us.
This video was fantastic. My goal is to become a Foley Artist but, even though I hate to admit it, I fear that my visual impairment might get in my way. I always have proven myself in any challenge I face despite my visual impairment but this time, this time I don't know. I thought I could become a Foley Artist because I recognize different sounds that some people may not. And that's not due to me having a better sense of hearing but instead due to me using my ears more than sighted people have to. So I believed Foley Artist was the perfect job. Mind sharing your take on this?
It is harder than people think. They make it look easy here because theyre pros and theyre guiding him. You have to be a well-rounded audio engineer to be a Foley artist and sound designer, certainly if you work alone as a freelancer with no one else around to help you. Being creative is the hardest part. Many times you have to find an alternative way to create a sound because recording the real thing often doesnt work. You have to be very frequency aware; what do I need to make this work? Its all about what the audience 'expect' to hear.
Can anyone please help me? How can i create a machine gun effect using logic X ? is there any way of creating it by means of foley? Gunshot is easy but have no info on machine gun.
I’m an audio engineer and use sound design when synthesizing unnatural sounds with interesting textures and timbres, not holding a mic to a suitcase. The title should be Learning the Art of Pressing a Record Button is harder than you think!
You are synthesising sounds, they are manipulating real sounds. If you synthesise sounds you should know that they are probably also processing and moulding these sounds after recording.
and theres a lot more to sound design than foley... and also the term sound design is used very loosely these days, what most movies require is top notch sound editing..
I've been following @zealxmusic on twitch for a while now, he streams live while he produce and treat music! It has helped me a lot in learning new stuff as well as workflow. If you are a newbie and wanna learn audio production, head over to his channel!
You should talk about all the annoying overused spuds that we hear ALL THE TIME THAT MAKES NO SENCE!!!! Like: gun noises every time is is touched, as it they have loose screws and sound of reloading for shotguns or pistol's hammer being pulled back when their is not hammer on the gun model. And my favorite useless over used sounds, cop car risen, 1 or 2 WOOP, WOOP every time a cop car appears in the frame....I have a very long list that, once you notice the over used of them, it will annoy you for ever every time you hear them....
Because it works!! I agree about the gun sounds, its unrealistic but without it, it simply wouldn't sound right. You have to watch a work print to appreciate why many sounds are needed that in the real world you wouldnt hear. Same with cloth, but you have to have it.
in other words it is easier than what I thought if it was just hitting objects around that correspond to the video, you muppets I thought you were going to explain difficulties of producing sound
I don't think sound design can get boring, there is much more to it, especially in terms of complexity than is shown in this video. I'm not a movie sound designer or anything but have been learning some sound design with creating music.
evidently learning sound design IS harder than I thought, seeings how you were unable to cover it in this video. The sound design aspects of this whole event took place before, behind the scenes of, and after events in this video that had almost nothing to do with sound design. lol

I had NO idea that pretty much sound in a movie is added in after the fact. I just didn't know. Fascinating.

I recently acquired a degree in sound design. I still have no fucking clue what I'm doing.
Same lol 🤣😂🤣
How long does that take?
Willing to do a gig?
SAMEEEE 🤣🤣🤣
"Is harder than you think" ...literally nails it on the first try
+Herman Fjeld Yeah. Title fail.
Yeaaa now imagine a full-fledged action movie with about 50 gun shots and explosions and other things going on
Yeah...not quite. Let's be real, he didn't nail it. lol
the footsteps were crap
he done worse than I would have done and he is a "professional"
that would be a cool job
I highly suggest you watch "The Secret World of Foley". It's a short documentary about foley artists. A blast to watch!
Mamanché thanks: )

that footsteps are awesome
I recommend starting at 2:22 and then starting from the beginning!
This is Foley, not Sound Design.
Anyway, he did a great job, and the mic positioning. gear and sound engineer did the rest :)
complete idiots mislabeling this video
When YT experts have it all wrong. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sound_design
Freakin Foley is just a part of what Sound Design is.

@Stevan D. Ingol that's like saying Tyres are part of Racing. 🤦♂️ Are you even a professional?
@@EminoMeneko playing guitar is part of music, but you don't call it a music video if you're talking specifically about guitars. Are you even a professional in the business?
this channel is underrated
0:36 pls note that he welcomes us with tamilnadu culter
Those foots steps being the slightest bit off bothered me so much
"sound design"
For Video editor's is : this foley stuff
For music composers: all that waves, eq, compression etc
One term, two meanings

@Stevan D. Ingol dude 🤦♂️

Oh, man..! *_What a great gig!_*
I want to work as a foley artist so bad. Not even kidding. :)
No kidding huh.
Not at slightest. :)
Have you figured out where to begin and how to get into it?
amazing job and very creative... also shaped generations of minds that think freezing actually make a sound :> we all know that sound
This was really satisfying to watch
That looks wicked fun! You did awesome!
AAAHHHHH I WANT TO GO TO THEIR STUDIO AND LEARN IT ALSO. MY DREAM IS TO BE A FOLEY ARTIST... IT LOOKS SO FUN
He is a natural
He did a Namaste
Excellent job
I would've loved to see more.
watch the video "Starwars Republic Commando Foley Sound Effects" you won't be disappointed
+Jessie Salinas Thanks, it actually was interesting.
this isnt really sound design
Grïsu you are right. It's more foley that anything.
No designing just recording. I clicked to see if I could see some EQs and Compressors and levels but I got a rabbit
Yeah, Scott, whose hands they only showed is doing the real work
this little homie Isn't foley and recording and resampling a part of sound design?
Found a video on how the awesome Transformers sounds were made and edited for 7.1 surround.
th-cam.com/video/UqIzKZHxSRo/w-d-xo.html
I remember seeing something like this for star wars episode 2, attack of the clones. It was on the special features of the dvd
I'd love to do that for a living
Coolest job ever. Hands down

I got about 0:38 seconds in so far, and I think that dude's clapped like four times already. Talk about a nervous reaction.
So concept!!! LOL but seriously, this stuff is so amazing!
Anyone have a link to the scene? I want to compare.
Never assumed it was easy. :)
Co incidently I lost the sound as I got notification while the video began. I thought the mute it to show how IMP sound is 🙄😁
Okay, where do I apply?
Can anyone please help me? How can i create a machine gun effect using logic X ? is there any way of creating it by means of foley? Gunshot is easy but have no info on machine gun.
My dream is to be an intern there. More better, as a full time foley artist there
great video
I think this can be rly fun but a rly pain in the ass. Especially to repeat it again and again and again till ur fully satisfied with the sound.
kinda like recording a song, similar work.
I want to work there :D
Anyone else here during lockdown

Pete S. I have no recollection typing this comment lol, I must have been in a grumpy mood. But yeah I definitely agree with you on that
If the sound designers were not there, most of the movies would have been lifeless. Sadly, they are not been given enough credits.
wish u could go more into the program they use etc but rest to see that :)
I keep hearing Paul Rudd
And I thought Foley was the centaur from Artemis Fowl. :D
.......I'll see my self out
nice Video,
free presets for Sylenth1!
hhhhhhhhhh
No wav-files for Serum
It's A LOT harder than you think.
I thought the sounds designers work the most time on the synthesizers
I love Foley. I know the name Foley comes from the man who invented it, so is that why it is written with a capital *_F_*?
WOW!!!

haha I know, the rampant gun handling sounds are hilarious
At least you got a sideline job and/or job replacement when get fired RIGHT!
What is this industry called? Sound design, is that it? just making sure
who else thought this was going to cover sound design with virtual or analog equipment lol.
The Foley Video for Starwars Republic Commando is better.
I would have been a great foley artist. Too late to change horses now...
The footsteps are way off xD
