"Requiem for a dream” - Darren Aronofsky, one of the first movies to use modern style sound design. I think the sound in this movie is one of the main characters…Thanks for the great tut!
The best sound design I've ever seen is in this video just because I didn't imagine the process to create these videos before but you let me live into it I got even the smallest details.
Sound design is the secret sauce to great videos. Would have loved to seen a little bit more about how to make each sound stand apart, particularly when you have a number of sounds layered, in the overall mix. I suppose there are dedicated videos on mixing and mastering that I could check out.
I havent got a specific individual scene sound design, but throughout the movie, 1917, I was blown away with the sound design and how it enhanced the feelings and emotions throughout the movie. I'm so happy Artlist now has SFX! Thanks for all your hard work, I look forward to use the SFX in upcoming video projects..... If we ever recover from this corona outbreak!
@@artlist_io I work for a non profit seniors association doing their social media and videography. I just recently interviewed a blind quadriplegic in a seniors home and I'm working on his video with how he still finds hopes and enjoyment in life, even with his issues. He's probably the happiest guy I've ever met.
The sound of star wars capturing sci-fi without using digital synthesizers was simply amazing. I can't imagine how difficult it was or how much creativity was put into it.
Exactly, though I feel that using authentic real-world sounds in their analog style, and without thousands of people doing anything similar, makes that sound stand out forever.
It’s funny how he said, welcome back, this is literally my first time watching this guy, and after writing this, I’m going to leave and never come back, bye.
This is golden! Thanks for sharing, low pass filter and pans are my new heroes. For the sound designed film piece, Leonardo's timeless Watchtower of Turkey is still my favorite! Keep the good stuff coming guys!
I often refer to Leonardo Dalessandri's "Searockers Croatia" film when I'm trying to figure out how to use SFX effectively. It's just a travel/holiday film, but there's such great use of sound design to sell the transitions, etc.
That was really helpful, especially the panning sound. I loved the sound on Bridge Of Spies. When you listen to how they created the sounds of old style flashguns firing in the extras of the film it was amazing. I would never have thought of using a woman scream for a pop of flash. The whole movie's awesome actually.
I got very excited after knowing SFX is now included in ArtList, and the quality of the SFX is whole another level, appreciate the work and the service you guys are providing to us the creators. The best sound design in the movie according to me is *"John Wick 2014"* especially the night club fight scene.

That's incredible Jan! Happy you like this tutorial, it's definitely one of our favs as well. Hope you find more helpful tips to share with your students.
In my opinion one of the best sound design i have listen to was on Watchtower of Turkey. Reason - It was the first video to use the sound design in a way that has inspired a 1000's of travel vloggers to make these sound filled travel videos.
Great video and great service-both this and Artgrid! One of my favorite examples of awesome sound design: the film Dunkirk. The sound design brought it to life in a way that would have been impossible otherwise.
The sound design in I Am Legend was both terrifying and brilliant --- especially in the scene where Dr Neville goes after Sam when she runs into the creature infested building and get's trapped in there. Another film we can't fail to mention is Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey. His wife, Christiane Kubrick, reportedly said that the breathing sound effect of the astronauts was Kubrick himself. The attention to detail in that film is absolutely spectacular.
Christopher Nolan's sound design is pretty amazing in all of his movies but I think that Dunkirk may be the best sound design of any movie I've ever seen. The combination of sound effects and music - or should I say musical instruments - is nothing less than astonishing for how they blend together to inform mood and tell a story without a main character or a lot of dialogue. BTW, great lesson. You taught this old dog some new tricks. Thanks!
Awesome video! I had no idea what sound design was, until today. So I searched here on TH-cam and found your video, which made it super clear, and also fascinating! Thanks man
The best sound design I ever seen in movie "1408" 2007 Mikael Håfström. Thanks for great content! Guys try to run challenge for sound design in social medias with nominations! Would love to take a part of that. Cheers
I love the sound design in the Sherlock holmes Games of shadows movie! especially in the slow motion part when they escape to the train, or the fight scene of Sherlock fighting in the ring.
It's gotta be "Ford vs Ferrari". The sound design on that movie is amazing. I got blown away when I checked out the sound design BTS on the Vanity Fair channel, a staggering 18 layer timeline. Some insane stuff right there, I loved it.
I really liked it, so much I didn't know! But I guess you didn't include a version with both sound design and music, so I had to download this video and bring in to my editing timeline to see how it looks and it was amazing. I can sum up a lot of oldies like King Kong, The Birds, Star Wars, Apocalypse now, The Matrix and I can continue for hours. All these movies did exceptional new things with sounds. But the latest movie that did blow me away was actually a movie from not that long ago. It was the first time I did experience a Dolby Atmos movie that intense. I hear you thinking there he is presenting his Marvel superhero title. But none of these I would like to mention although their sound design is great without any discussion. The movie I do like to mention is Roma. The whole movie did give me goose bumps by listening to it while watching became a second priority. And especially the scene at the beach with the sound design being on top of the game. Just a dramatic sound of waves that does make you realize something will happen. Even the earlier mentioned Marvel movies will sound small after watching this movie, take my word on that.

The sound design for 2015’s Sicario is insane. The soundtrack isn’t really music, it’s more sound and the pace is beautifully done.
