Not 'one' of the biggest bands to have ever existed. THE biggest music artists to have ever existed, period. Only Elvis comes close in terms of sales but even 'The King' has to settle for 2nd place. The Beatles are also the most innovative music act and are definitely the most influential, by a mile. Lennon and McCartney are considered the greatest songwriters of the modern era, for good reason. George Harrison is one of the songwriting GOATs too. They changed popular music forever and their influence continues to this day, both directly and indirectly. Every music artist, from the mid 60s until today has been influenced by them. Even if they don't realise it. Their cultural and social impact was almost as great as their musical impact. Their early albums were great and were much more revolutionary than people may realise, looking back on them from more than 50 years later. However, it's their last 6 or 7 albums that cement their status as musical geniuses and the undisputed GOATs. Every one is a masterpiece, a bona fide classic. Everyone has their favourite. Mine is, 'Abbey Road' but all of them were groundbreaking upon release. Even today, they still sound remarkable. In fact, the 50th anniversary reissue of Abbey Road, earlier this year, topped the album charts in both the UK and the US, as well as in numerous other countries. It's been a similar tale with most of their anniversary reissues. It's remarkable considering the music was created over half a century ago. Worldwide they still get more radio airplay than any contemporary artist. They hold the top 2 positions in the most covered songs of the modern era. I could go on and on. They hold so many records and had so many truly groundbreaking achievements that there's too many to list.
Suffice it to say that, if you want to really understand modern popular music, you need to listen to The Beatles. Anyone serious about modern music needs to listen to 'Rubber Soul, 'Revolver', Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band', 'Magical Mystery Tour', ''The White Album', 'Abbey Road' and 'Let it Be'... at the very least. If you must take a short cut, listen to their Red, (1962-1966) and Blue, (1967-1970) double albums. :)

The one in the brown coat with the glasses just singing:
That’s the Legendary John Lennon RIP I would say he was the Brains of the Beatles along with Paul McCartney
The Left handed bass player in the suit on the left is:
Sir Paul McCartney He and John Lennon’s songwriting has to be the greatest songwriting in the music business,he’s Very talented Sir Paul an he has an Amazing voice
The one in the black coat next to John on the right is:
Lead guitarist George Harrison R.I.P some people call him the quiet Beatle but he wrote some good hits and he has an amazing voice
Finally the last member in the Red coat Legendary Drummer
Sir Ringo Starr an amazing drummer as matter fact the perfect drummer for the Beatles who sang some my favorite underrated songs by the Beatles
All the Members have sang at least one hit some of my favorites Let it be,Hey Jude,Here comes the sun, Something,In my life, Come together those are just a few of my favorites
PS: Freddie Mercury once said How much he admired John Lennon and his songwriting and how he would never put any power above him because he was unique and just the greatest he even wrote song about him called “life is real”

There’s literally so much to know about the Beatles. Here’s the basics. They formed in Liverpool in the early 60’s. They were doing crappy gigs. Like stuff in night clubs, singing a lot of covers. There early lineups changed a bit, but there final lineup and the one they’re most known for is Paul McCartney (plays bass, a main singer/songwriter, and could play Piano or guitar at times), John Lennon (main singer/songwriter, rhythm guitarist), George Harrison (Lead Guitarist, and would get his occasion song, wrote more songs later on), and Ringo Starr (drummer, sang a few songs). They got signed to a record label, and they became a smash hit right away. In around 1963 I think, they dropped there first album, which was a complete success. They came to America and performed live on the Ed Sullivan show, which was kind of like there first step in becoming pop culture icons. When they first started out, they were a boy band. Sang mostly live songs, but they were immensely popular. They made hit album after hit album. Then, in the mid 60’s their sound evolved. Starting with their album Rubber Soul, they started getting deeper, complex and weird. After that they got more and more weird and trippy, but in the best way possible. They were famous for going to India and experimenting with drugs, and hippy type stuff. After there trippy stage, in the mid to late 60’s, their sound evolved again, into a sound that’s more like ‘Don’t Let Me Down’ like you see in this vid. They just made incredible songs that hit you in the soul. While making “The White Album” (that’s not technically what the name is, but the cover is just plain white so that’s what people call it) they experiences really tough times, tensions between members of the band became prominent. Eventually, they knew they were gonna break up, so after recording the album ‘Let it Be’ they decided to make one last album. So they made Abbey Road, one of the most famous albums ever; and considered by some to be the best ever. While making this album, it was relatively peaceful, not at all like when they recorded the White Album. So they ended off on a peaceful note. Their album Let it Be was recorded and made before Abbey Road, but due to some reason I can’t remember, was released after. So Abbey Road and Let it Be drooped, and they all went their separate ways. This was around 1970. They each went on to have very successful careers after this. John and Paul were very successful, and George proved to be an amazing song writer in his own right. John was murdered in 1980, and George died in 2001. Paul and Ringo are still alive and kicking around to this day.

One of the greatest conductors and composers of all time, Leonard Bernstein, wrote "Three Bars of 'A Day in the Life' still sustain me, rejuvenate me, inflame my senses and sensibilities." What made The Beatles great is what they did for music. They saved Rock music from dying in the early sixties after Elvis was drafted, Chuck Berry went to prison, and the deaths of Ritchie Valens and Buddy Holly. From 1962-1965, they were the most popular band in the world, and from 1966-1970, they were not only still the most popular, but the most innovative band in the world. Their music went beyond just Pop and Rock. They were really the first band to mix genres to the extent that others have done afterwards. Blues, Jazz, Experimental, Psychedelic, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Progressive Rock, Music Hall, and everything in between and much more beyond.

The Beatles basically laid the foundation for all modern music, which I think is why they sound so timeless. They were beyond prolific. My favorite song by them is Strawberry Fields.

What you are watching on this video is the last performance of the Beatles as a Band. They decided to throw an impromptu concert on the roof of their manager's office building. People on the streets of London started to hear "Beatles" music coming from the top of a 5 story building. It all ended right here, after they played about 10 or so songs, until the Fire Dept. told them they had to stop, as they were causing a public scene, because cars were stopping in the middle of th road, and the sidewalk below was jammed pack from people trying to look up at the Beatles playing on the roof of this building. A little History lesson. As for a song request by them..."Back in the USSR." Very cool song.

This was a 42 minute, impromptu performance on the rooftop of their Apple recording studio, before they were stopped by police..It was also their last live performance together.

To understand what make the Beatles great, you have to understand them from 1960 to 1970. The excitement they brought out. The evolution they went through. The variety of styles they utilized. They were geniuses.

Blackbird, In My Life, Revolution, Get Back, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, Tomorrow never knows. All great stuff, and that's not even touching the first half of their career 🙂

That’s Billy Preston playing keyboards. He is not part of the band, but played on many of their recordings. This was their final performance together on January 30th, 1969 on the rooftop of their record company Apple Corps. The had not appeared live together or toured in many years, but had released many groundbreaking records during that time influencing world culture.

This was their final ever appearance as a band in public, on the roof of the Apple studios (their record label) in London. Watch Get Back from the same performance and you get to see Billy Preston on the keyboard properly!
