Amazing Video! I never get tired of watching people explain MiA. It's such a hard sell now because most people who have heard of it just know about all the controversial aspects, which, yeah, are pretty controversial. But like you said at the beginning, it's something you just don't forget. It's one of those few pieces of art that you only encounter a few times in your life that leaves a lasting impact. It's been nearly 8 years now since I was introduced to the Abyss, and I'm still completely obsessed with it.
In the depths of a world where nothing new can be produced, one can only value themselves or others. What value can one then trade if they wish to survive, if not the life of themselves or others?
If I had to guess, it's probably the opposite of our currency. We operate on a currency based on "worth", something is worth more depending on quantity and necessity (law and demand and supply), it's based on materialism. In the village the currency is based on value, it's the mirrored version of worth, it's based on subjective and individualistic emotion, but given physical form. Something worthless can be valued a lot. If I only I was smart enough to understand the clear meaning behind "Value" and "Your-Worth"... Any opinions?
THIS IS YOUR FIRST VIDEO??? Honestly, im inpressed! This is better than channels with MILLIONS of subscibers, you just rightfully earned a (hopefully) faithful subscriber.
Made in Abyss probably forever will be a top 10 anime for me. I'm not going to repeat everything already said in the video, but the pacing in the anime is top tier, always keeping the viewer engaged. And I love how every time we enter a new floor its like "woahhhh, this place is so cool. I wonder how many different horrible deaths this place has to offer." Its just so hard to recommend to others because of the incredibly weird things that happen in the anime. And that's just the anime, I can't imagine what horrors go on in the manga.
watched the first season 10+ times, listened to it as background noise while gaming multiple times, cried every single time at the appropriate scenes, was weirded out by... if you know, you know... seen the movie by chance on TV, watched the second season subbed and dubbed on a weekly basis. this is peak anime, love the gore, the characters, the story, the music, the premise, blew me away like never before, hope they never ever reach the bottom and continues the anime adaptation beyond the manga. and then this essay... just wow. keep it going, youre niffing good already.
When I finished the movie I thought: "Damn, that was beautiful, genuinely. How could season 2 ever keep up?" And then I watched s2, and wowwww... Now I'm almost scared to see s3, I might get too obsessed with the story!
One thing about the third layer that surprised me, is how in the manga, it’s BARELY THERE. It only lasts a few pages and the hallucination scene never happens. I’m glad that the show gave it more care, even if it’s the hardest layer to do things with. Great video ❤
I dont think i could ever watch the anime. I've seen enough clips to know it would surely mess me up. Dear lord, that world-building tho. It wasn't until i went down a rabbit-hole on deep-sea and saturation diving that the world truly piqued my interest. The abyss's curse was a crazy stroke of genius.
definitely in my top 3 animes. no anime, and i mean it, ever made me feel like made in abyss did, a whole mental adventure. i'm so proud i watched it all
If you haven't had any real life interaction with bodily fluids or gore, you have been well protected from real life. Shit, urine, vomit and blood are commonplace whenever you are exposed to very normal things, like animals, accidents, births, physical work, exhaustion, sickness, intoxication, etc. Things get worse the moment you add intentional violence or extreme environments. The world IS dangerous and nasty, and I actually consider a brave choice to keep such uncomfortable stuff in stories where they realistically should happen, instead of sanitizing everything for the sake of prudeness. The anime also does it in a very tasteful manner, and never treats violence or suffering as laughable or inconsecuential, as most shonen do.
Made in Abyss is my absolute favorite anime of all time. I mean... yeah, some aspects are hella sus (looking at you Author-san), but... Worldbuilding, characters, motivations, mysteries, tragedies, emotions. Everything is so fleshed out. The anime adaptation is just peak perfect. The art, the music, the colors, the atmosphere. I could talk all day about it.
I just found this channel today and damn, your video essays are absolute top-tier in terms of quality! :D You go straight to the point in your plot summary with some necessary exposition and then skillfully expand on the worldbuilding and characters in the review section - the script is nicely organized and overall analysis is on-point. Not to mention the absolutely INSANE level of editing that keeps the video engaging and your great taste in anime (I love Made in Abyss and Heavenly Delusion is definietly underrated). I'm probably glazing way too much, but you totally deserve this praise - I'm absolutely sure your channel will blow up in subs if you keep this up!
Wazukyan is the embodiment of the question, how far would you go for the sake of your loved ones? While Bondrewd embodies the question, how far are going for the "greater good"?
I think they sort of mirror each other in that sense. Bondrewd is a man of science who cannot conceive the idea of putting means above ends. He does genuinely love all of the children, but can't imagine putting them above his goal. Wazukyan is a prophet. Like any prophet, he has a prophecy. In the end though, he ends up founding the village, ending the journey he wanted to continue. When Riko shows up, he sees an opportunity to continue his prophecy, but lets her choose her own path. Or maybe I misinterpreted everything, I dunno.
This video is so so amazing, cannot believe its your first video. Keep up the amazing work and I hope to be able to edit and write videos like you homie 👏👏
This is a crazy first video, I expected to see hundreds of thousands of views not 5k!! Made in Abyss one of my favourite animes this very good very happy video good job ^^
Sëgûr is one of the best ost of MiA, I remember in episode 8, when Faputa was born, this song was so beautiful to accompany Vueko's monologue, it was really amazing
amazing video, you're seriously so underrated!! unfortunately I could only watch half, since this vid is actually how I found out there was a movie- so I'm going to add that to my to-watch list and come back to this another time lol truly is such a great show, its a shame the creator is so weird bc it gave made in abyss a terrible reputation :(
Got my sub, video was nicely edited, smooth transitions, loved the references, loved the layout and template! Good stuff man, like someone else said thought you were a giant youtuber based of presentation alone! Keep doing what you're doing🤘
this video is INSANE, i was enjoying the video and when you mentioned this was your FIRST video and i saw the subscriber count i was genuinely taken aback because i was under the impression this was a huge youtube channel and a video made by a seasoned veteran, im for sure looking forward for whats to come and am wishing you the best of luck!

This anime is like an HBO or Showtime show, you never know which kind of shit will happen... From kids bleeding from all holes to little creatures with prolapses, they push the boundaries way too hard! And I love it! Because it makes me feel feelings that any other anime would do.
oh definitely the suspense goes CRAZY in this one. it also doesnt ever feel like the gore is out of place, it’s balanced between realistic and over the top which many shows should take note of
starting this video sent me on the journey to go and watch Made in Abyss - and I'm not sure whether to thank you or hate you, I've gone somewhere in the middle and clicked subscribe 👍
I remember first time watching it, and thinking that this is a good anime with great visuals and I thought that it will be a nice adventure anime with some drama as the story progresses But boy I was wrong, after 10th EP, the anime toke a dark turn, and from that EP it kept getting darker. but what interested me the most is how they blur the line between good and evil (especially for Bondrewd), and how sometimes evil things are coming for a good will. Thanks a lot for the amazing videos, keep going.
YT slinging your vid my way...so I watched and I liked. Made in Abyss was the 3rd anime I ever watched. Friends said watch Cowboy Bebop then watch FLCL(OG) and the watch this. Never was a big anime fan until I watched these 3. Made in Abyss gives you a lump in the throat tho...solid vid btw dude
Your point about Beloff is missing the entire ark about his corruption. He starts out preferring starvation to consuming the hollows then eventually is so greedy as to obtain an undying hollow purely for consumption, and even his own greed is unending so he trades even that for "greater value"
Ayo, that's my favorite anime someone made a video of right there, noice! Now, funnily enough, this anime somehow ties into video games really really hard for a multitude of reasons, and I also love video games, so it makes sense. There's a video I remember watching which talks about how the anime's origins, the story and everything, may have been meant for implementation in a video game, which is a whole thing, creator had some ties to the industry, it was neat. On top of that, there's actually been a video game made for the anime not super long ago, and while I don't think it's quite like what the anime originally intended and I don't know much about it, I hear it's alright/pretty good. Dunno exactly, Bondrewd (was that the purple line guy's name? I think it was...) always reminded me of William Afton from FNaF in the funniest ways. It was fun drawing an honestly slightly concerning number of random connections between the two series. On a more serious note, I really don't know what it is with Abyss-like settings always making for the most epic stories of all time, delving into layers of ever increasing intensity, each filled with its own environments, ecosystems, nature... and eldritch horrors... I've encountered three, Made in Abyss being the first, and I'm already aware of an odd fourth. The second, unlike my favorite anime, Made in Abyss, is actually my favorite video game, Ultrakill! Now, just like I could draw silly parallels between FNaF and Made in Abyss, I can also draw silly parallels between Reg and V1! They both got the whiplash, electric railcannon, they dive into the funni hole in the ground and fight monsters, it's all very nice and good. Now, the fun part is that Ultrakill's setting is not a completely original concept, it's based on Dante's Inferno, which is that odd fourth I mentioned. I haven't read it, but I've heard it's really good and it's probably the first Abyss-like setting in existence. I'm honestly wondering if there's anything to say about Made in Abyss taking inspiration from Dante's Inferno. From what I've heard, Dante and Vergil could definitely be compared to Riko and Reg. Also, apparently there a Dante's Inferno game and my dad has it so video games strike again. Haven't played it though. I suppose I've encountered more than three Abyss-like settings if you're really generous too, but those are mainly uninspired dungeons with floors and all that. The one 'dungeon' that actually fits the bill is from the manga, Dungeon Odyssey, which isn't quite my favorite manga I don't think, but I enjoyed it a whole lot. Uh, well, it's Korean I think, so manhwa. In it, you've got the Solo Leveling trope of normal South Korea suddenly having monsters invade, it ends in an Undertale-esque war where the monsters just kind of retreat into the underground, and all the POWs get released and wander back up onto the surface, some of whom were born there given the duration of the war. The deeper the layer you were born, the more powerful you are. Enter MC, who was born on the 12th floor. I'm pretty sure people from the surface haven't gone past the 7th in the story. If you can consider him one, he might be one of the best handled 'OP MCs' I've seen. It's a video gamey, dungeon management sim type thing that I saw a lot of comments pointing out inspiration from an old computer game called Dungeon Keeper for. Lots of video game references, I saw Starcraft, Warhammer, Terraria, Ori and the Blind Forest, Hollow Knight, Lethal Company, and Helldivers 2, so clearly there are some cultured individuals working on this thing. Whatever the case, large scale battles and MC, while definitely punching way above his weight class, isn't super crazy. Still, compared to other people, incomparably powerful. Now, all of this culminates in like 170-180 chapters of this dungeon management and powerscaling stuff and it finally starts giving some reveals on what the deeper layers look like. Past the 10th level is what is fittingly known as the 'Abyss'. I'm not sure if this is a reference to Made in Abyss, I could see it being either way, but anything we see past that 10th level... yeah. What gets me is that while Made in Abyss takes about 6 episodes to start getting intense, Dungeon Odyssey takes like 180 chapters for the horror elements to get there. There's maybe 210 out. They've only given a taste so far. Dungeon Odyssey is also constantly using cutesy artstyles with the characters. I have seen people comment about how the cast feels bloated and like some of the characters are just there to be cute. Many word, many thing say, me like Abysses. I think I avoided spoilers on the Dungeon Odyssey part. I dunno, I recommend all three, please reply more Abyss style stories :> Damn it, mild, mild spoilers, but I just realized that MiA and Dungeon Odyssey also have a very similar flashback sequence and accompanying arc. GOOOOOOD GOD THERE'S TOO MUCH TO THINK ABOUT! I'm starting to think there's more merit to the theory that Dungeon Odyssey was partially inspired by MiA. It drives me a little mad sometimes how closely related some of this stuff feels sometimes, especially as a Game/Film Theory fan.
Made in abyss world artstyle wise looks like is the closest i have seen to a ghibli movie look in other anime that is not ghibli and it just looks so nice.
Demon's Slayer world building is great and effective, and serves the story very well. It's just different in structure from the one from Made in Abyss, where exploration is the main premise of the show.
MiA could've reached so much more people if it weren't for all the weird stuff. Can't really blame them for not turning a blind eye to it, despite being such an amazing anime to watch. Great video, I'm sure you'll grow in no time

It's almost two years and MIA season 2 never left my mind a day. Still wondering what the fuck is "value"

And I love it! Because it makes me feel feelings that any other anime would do.
oh definitely the suspense goes CRAZY in this one. it also doesnt ever feel like the gore is out of place, it’s balanced between realistic and over the top which many shows should take note of
Congrats on the very successful first vid.
starting this video sent me on the journey to go and watch Made in Abyss - and I'm not sure whether to thank you or hate you, I've gone somewhere in the middle and clicked subscribe 👍
Very nice first video, very well done with the editing. Sub 73 and looking forward to seeing what else you'll put out.
thank u sub 73 😎
This series got so unnecessary confusing! loved the beginning A LOT!
I heard this is your first vid... Damn, this is actually peak content.
dang even its like the abyss in the anime/manga, i really love the world building with the character design.
I remember first time watching it, and thinking that this is a good anime with great visuals and I thought that it will be a nice adventure anime with some drama as the story progresses
But boy I was wrong, after 10th EP, the anime toke a dark turn, and from that EP it kept getting darker.
but what interested me the most is how they blur the line between good and evil (especially for Bondrewd), and how sometimes evil things are coming for a good will.
Thanks a lot for the amazing videos, keep going.
wiat this is your first video??? Starting off with an absolute banger
YT slinging your vid my way...so I watched and I liked. Made in Abyss was the 3rd anime I ever watched. Friends said watch Cowboy Bebop then watch FLCL(OG) and the watch this. Never was a big anime fan until I watched these 3. Made in Abyss gives you a lump in the throat tho...solid vid btw dude
ur friends got some good taste in anime
Dude, great review for a first time channel!!!
Maybe slow down a little bit, but this hits all the points well. Good job 👍
Here before this man becomes famous
Love that you’re using Genshin Impact background music ❤
Good shit man
Your point about Beloff is missing the entire ark about his corruption. He starts out preferring starvation to consuming the hollows then eventually is so greedy as to obtain an undying hollow purely for consumption, and even his own greed is unending so he trades even that for "greater value"
love that you used zankyou no terror soundtrack
i didnt actually but now i want to lol
@@senhyaku oh damn for a minute i thought 16:02 used VoN but its Old Stories instead, they sound so familiar tho
How come this is your first video!? It's so good! 😮😮
Great video! I hate how this series gets overshadowed by its authors “quirkiness”
Made in abyss world artstyle wise looks like is the closest i have seen to a ghibli movie look in other anime that is not ghibli and it just looks so nice.
i was your 300th subscriber congrats
best anime soundtracks of all times, period. Kevin Penkins is a beast.
the abyss has dragged us all in to its depth with its crazy adventures waiting to be explored
Honestly I've already watched this show countless times.
I came here just to refresh my memories and hear someone praise it again
Made in abyss was the first anime I ever watched, and oh boy did it drag me in
nice video
Demon's Slayer world building is great and effective, and serves the story very well. It's just different in structure from the one from Made in Abyss, where exploration is the main premise of the show.
yeah it was an apples to oranges ahhh comparison lmao i honestly shouldve compared it to smth like one piece so tht its not completely different
"Donate your kidney to me" 😂
Ok, ok, I'll sub 😅
MiA could've reached so much more people if it weren't for all the weird stuff. Can't really blame them for not turning a blind eye to it, despite being such an amazing anime to watch.
Great video, I'm sure you'll grow in no time
There is a certain class of people who view inspiration and trauma as one in the same.
