@@sim.frischh9781 And yet, according to the maps, they didn't. Thyferra lies on the edge of the Unknown Regions, as does the system in which Endor is located. One of the few planets located within the Unknown Regions is the origin planet of the Yuuzhan Vong, another Rakata Prime. There is no proof of actual efforts to map the Unknown Regions.
Then again, Hyperspace exploration is a difficult and long process, which always takes thousands of lives; there is a reason people travel along established hyperspace routes instead of just jumping.
Interesting thought: The reason we haven't made contact with aliens is that Earth is too far away from any hyperspace route.

@@flawless_Cowboy Well, we sorta know there aren’t advanced civilizations anywhere near us. In Star Wars, a lot of planets are habitable and farmable and all that. Realistically, you’ll struggle to find them and reach them. This means that, even with hyperspace lanes, you really want to produce space habitats (effectively, a scaled up ISS which utilizes spin to create “gravity”). This goes to a point where the entire star is englobed in a swarm of habitats called a Dyson Swarm definitely within 10,000 years, potentially as few as 50 years depending on resources, automation, technologies, artificial materials, energy, and so on. At this point, you can still see the star, but it will be far dimmer than it should be, and upon closer observation, you will certainly see the swarm.
This is called the Fermi Paradox, which is an apparent paradox between the vast size and age of the universe and the lack of intelligent life.

There is a interesting theory about density of matter in space and its connection with theory of manageable chaos.The idea is on low density of colonized space there is more enthropy and more civilized races are closer to the center of galaxy.
Disney needs to have a horror branch of the star wars universe.

It boggles my mind that they didn’t do this for the sequel trilogy. But we were insisted that we must get a Tattooine 2.0, Hoth 2.0, Death Star 3.0, and Rebels vs Empire 2.0.
Remembering the sequels wasted potential ruins my day.

That's hard and requires understanding of the lore and The meaning of what you are writing the movie about... but why do that when you can just do a worse copy of a previous movie from 40 years ago.
A lot of the blame goes to JJ Abrams, and to Disney for picking him. He only really knows how to make worse retreads of popular stuff, mostly from the 80s (E.T. with Super 8, Star Trek II with Star Trek Into Darkness, Star Wars), and has never stuck a landing or had a satisfying answer for the many "mystery boxes" he's put out there.
Why? Because *somebody* wanted 'The Force is Female'...Lucas and the Expanded Universe be damned.
When 'agenda' becomes the story, the is NO story...only a "message".
Real reason: Gives authors more freedom

@Jimmy Strudel the unexplored ocean parts are the deep parts and we are exploring those now.
Literally the out I'm using for my SWRPG game. Basically Rebel squad who are recruiters/sabatours/scouts that explore things. Eventually, they'd pick up a S.O.S signal from the unknown regions, leading to the bringing back of old Republic worlds from the days of the Old Republic wars. Some neat technological advances that are different, cultures, even previous battles and ships.
Hopefully the party'd bring recruits back to the War on the side of the Rebellion, and some other fun stuff later on (remember Siliri from Forces of Corruption? What if she found something different from Sith Warriors... in the Unknown region of course).

It's crazy to me that people are creative enough to come up with all this stuff so that we can talk about it like it's actually real.

Don't ask something too great of them, they didn't even plan the newest trilogy. I doubt they would have the sense to get an even half-decent writer on board to think up something in the unknown regions.

Considering the existing droid tech , it's bewildering that unmanned exploration was not done for thousands of years by the Republic or the Sith .

Yeah, that's never happening. Sending droids into the void for years sounds like a great way for them to become self-aware and reject their mission statements. This is why droids get mind-wiped every so often, so as to not allow them to gain sentience and threaten to destroy the galaxy as they have several times in the galaxy's 50,000 year history.

A dreadnought like the Supremacy mapping star systems and discovering random anomalies in the unknown region could make a pretty cool story.

It would really have its work cut out for it. The west half of the galaxy is cut off for a reason. Aka: filled with unimaginable threats and unspeakable horrors.
The Emperors flagship, the Eclipse was out in the unknown regions before Sloane found it. Prior to the battle of Jakku the emperors observatory was mapping the unknown regions for stable hyperoutes. And thats where the first order came from. And as we all know, ilum was turned into starkiller base.

Space wraiths, starweirds, Darth Nihilus, Abeloth, the black wing project and worst of all, the mnggal-mnggal. Those are just a few examples of why most people decide not to explore the unknown, the potential of unknown, terrifying creatures who have such a reputation in their stories that it can scare just about anyone and make anyone else not even think about exploring past the known galaxy, the horror of star wars is way scarier than any other horror icon such as Alien or The Thing.
Darth nihilus was the sith lord who could drain life from people to basically be the Sith vampire yes? As for the rest my star wars lore is lacking
@@Azmodari I haven't read about Darth Nihilus in a long time, but to my knowledge, yes, he could drain the life from anyone and anything, even planets if my memory serves me well.

Yeah. Like the only time we saw the Unknown Regions in the sequels was Ahch To which was one of the cooler plot points of Force Awakens. Would be cool if that was a "leap into the sea" sort of thing and the next two films could see our heroes exploring more unknown worlds
If it doesn’t make money - Disney won’t take the risk - our social structure is so fragile that if it hurts certain people ‘feelings’ then controversy will start - and Disney avoids this at all cost - so they explore this only through comics and other mediums but not major films or tele series

I wonder WHY in canon they are making so many Force-Related planets close to the Unknown Regions. Jedha, Exegol, Ahch-To and Illum. Could it mean that in canon the Unknown Regions will be related to the origin of the Force Users?
Maybe Force users just tend to be hermit-ish and try to hide their secrets in more secret, unexplored places

There is one extremely important meta-fact that everyone needs to consider.
Nearly the entire lore of the Star Wars Galaxy, outside of the material in the movies, was created for the WEG Star Wars RPG by various writers, mostly without any input from Lucasfilm.
That game & the material within it served as the seed for the lion’s share of the EU.
And even within the EU, the lore isn't always consistent. While there's certainly a spirit of consistency a lot of writers shared--when you find cool stuff, you often want your stuff to happen in the same universe--it's not like it was all one google doc that they worked on together. There's not just one "Star Wars Galaxy" out there, some parts of lore will always be conflicting, "canon" depends a lot on which parts you like to combine the most

It’s so refreshing to be able to talk about star wars without having to argue about weather or not Disney ruined everything. I like learning about these stories even if they’re not canon.

There is no such thing as "canon" or "legends". You sheeple need to stop talking about it and stop supporting that toxic mentality. That word is meaningless and pointless. There is no reason to ever use that word in any context. It is ALL Star Wars content. Period. Nothing more to it. Why aren't there deadly radiation levels at the Galactic Core, like in the Milky Way?

Milky way has a supermassive black hole in the center and, if I remember correctly, those emit a whole lot of radiation. There’s probably a lot of other radioactive stuff around there too. So maybe the core in the starwars galaxy is different than that of the milky way and it is something that’s not super radioactive?

I like the idea that if space travel can be as risky as is sometime claimed by Star Wars, keeping track of which routes are safe should be a very complicated job.

In the 40k lore...
The empire of man have the most biggest territory but only like 1% of the Galaxy, meaning many unexplored planets in between them.
Heck in reality planet Earth could be inside an alien territory but never know it... The Galaxy is that big.
Imagine how confused those explorers would be when they got to Earth, only to find that its inhabitants already know about the rest of the galaxy despite being completely isolated
Add the fact that scientists have recently d
discovered that the laws of physics can change based on stellar phenomena, there could literally be entire star systems straight out in front of us, light years away that we can even see due to gravitational or other anomalies that completely obscure our view unless we go around them or at least get to the other side. So the galaxy and the wider universe could be even bigger than we can even see due to these "invisible" obstructions and altered pockets of space-time. It's really facinating just how damn vast it all really is.
We absolutely could be in the borders of an alien empire, we might never know it, and they might even never know it. The universe is just endlessly interesting.
I like the human zoo theory. That aliens know we are here but are kind just leaving us alone in the same way we leave some undiscovered tribes alone. Just letting us do our thing.

There might also be a planet named “Balchinia”, home to a near-human species known as the Ballchinians.
In Kotor 2, Kreia says that the "True Sith" lie beyond the known reaches of the our galaxy. These Sith are so powerful that absorbing all the life on a planet is child's play to them. I'm so surprised this was never brought in any kind of star wars media especially since Kreia also says that Revan left the republic and their galaxy to go fight these Sith.

Or he us so far out so he never knew the jedi order fell. Heck maybe there is another order of jedi or grey jedi who never connected with the order for hundreds or even thousands of years.
Could you imagine fighting force sensitives that were properly trained to be implemented into the military as special units, and not just glorified generals.
I once tried to write a story about Three Jedi who escaped Order 66 and found refuge in the Silent Empire which is actually called the Mirrocracian Empire and is embroiled in a Political crises and several wars with other empires,slavers and rebels they try to survive and help stabilise it before the Empire make contact with them and see their weak state and declare war

What irritates me is that there was so much untapped potential with the sequels. I think somewhere in the movies, Snoke was said to have been from the unknown regions. Maybe they could have visited these regions, and more worldbuilding could have been done, looking at more interesting worlds and all

Her existence is so monstrous that it almost caused Luke Skywalker to have a nervous breakdown at the peak of his power just from perceiving her. She's been sealed up as tight as a race of god-like beings knew how and still manages to influence a large part of the galaxy with her malice. Nothing and no one can stand against her so you just have to pray she never escapes.
Maybe a new empire from the unknown. A true war that isn't either a set up or a rebel verses empire.

What i love about star wars is not only how much there is to know, but also how much there is to find out. I havent found any other piece of media that allows for so much speculation and fan content
the concept of a whole different part of the galaxy with other major powers and species etc. would have been a WAY better idea to focus on in the prequels imo... i love this subject! Nice videos, recently found your channel and subscribed since! :D

I find it interesting that it’s the eastern side that is explored, and everything west was unknown. It feels heavily influenced by western exploration in our own history

What people call East depends on what reference point they choose, and what cardinal direction they associate it with. People would naturally use the home system of the dominant species as a reference point. Assuming that's Coruscant, and they agree to place it at true North, then the first 180 degrees clockwise are objectively East.
The Atlas explains that hyperlanes are at least in part man-made. The more people navigate a path, the more data can be uploaded to cartography networks, the that hyperlane can be optimized; rinse and repeat. Kinda like speedrunning.

It is hard to navigate through and overall pretty terrifying place that whenever Empire sent exploration fleet it consisted of so much firepower a Star Destroyer battle group could envy. On the plus side if Disney ever wants to go there they could spin it with a lot of horror elements and freshen things up a bit.
Theory: The Force is blocking the paths because it doesn't want any crazy Skywalker family tiffs from entering and ruining the rest of the galaxy. ;)

Jokes on them there are a whole bunch more "Skywalkers" in the unknown region than there is in explored space. If you didn't know "Skywalkers" are what the Chiss call force sensitive children (usually females) that have the ability to use force navigation otherwise known as instinctive astrogation which is one of the few ways that hyperspace travel actually works in the unknown region.
You could hide entire empires in some of these "blank" areas of the map. Especially on that map at 6:30.
You should read the books about Luke Skywalker and his new Jedi Order and the New Republic teaming up in the Yuuzhan Vong War and their anti-Force biotechnology weapons!

true. maybe you could call it something cool like "the Eternal Empire" and give the emperor a badass name like Valkorian. or maybe have a cool alien from the unknown regions that rises up the ranks of Palpatine's empire and is so badass that he almost reunifies the empire after Palpatine's death. he could be blue, or something, and be called Mitth'raw'nurudo. no, that's too complicated, better call him Thrawn instead.

It's also important to note that it should be literally impossible to go straight through the Deep Core; every single observed galaxy in the universe thus far has been shown to have a supermassive black hole. It would be absurd not to consider one exists in the galaxy far, far away as well. The gravity well any black hole creates alone would pull any ship out of hyperspace caught in its event horizon, forcing you to have to navigate around the black hole that is likely thousands of light years across. You can't just navigate through it, not even outside of realspace--and starship technology or the Force be damned. You just can't do it.
The super massives black holes at the center of the galaxies are not that big.
The Schwartzchild radius of a black hole is directly proportionnal to its mass. A thousand light years black hole would contain more mass than a thousand Milky ways.

He resolved it the same year Einstein published the general relativity theory. He both showed that black holes were a consequance of general relativity, and calculated their radius as a direct correlation with mass.
In one of the NJO books, Danni Quee brings up the in-universe theory that the Star Wars galaxy is colliding with a "Dark Matter Galaxy" that only interacts gravitationally with normal space - as the two galaxies slowly pass through each other, the gravity wells from the normal stars and the "Dark Matter stars" interact from different angles, opening and closing hyperspace routes into the Unknown Regions and also locking and unlocking different areas within that vast area.

New Jedi Order. Its the (i think) 19 book series around the Yuuzhan Vong invasion. Read the whole thing and quite honestly, its one of the best series ove read, though it did cost me around $210 for the whole thing. Id say money well spent

I would imagine with the way they like to release new versions of the same movies they will just flip the orientation of the movie left to right and call it "Stare Wars: Galaxy West".
Interesting parallel; one reason why there are still a surprising number of uncharted islands in the Pacific Ocean is due to the fact that all the shipping lanes followed today date back to the time when sailing ships were basically restricted to the areas known to have consistent wind currents.

I'm thinking what Helmut described is more of a highly powerful and massive civilization that can control what happens in that part space.
(An ancient power or civilization that is very powerful in the force and/or extremely advanced with technology. Think of like "the ones" or forerunners.)
The Chiss are strong but are nowhere near that powerful. (If they were the far outsiders (Or Vong depending on which canon you use.) wouldn't be a threat to them or are so strong the galaxy wouldn't hope to beat it if they fall. And they would not need the inner galaxy's help for anything.

The funny part is that the hyperspace lanes could very well have been artificially created by an advanced alien civilization before the star wars era. Which means, hypothetically, they could come back to take whats theirs. In legends there are aliens that have decided to launch crusades in the SW universe only to get slapped by the ruling powers of the time. But an alien species so advanced to develop hyperspace lanes? Something tells me there enough in that idea alone to start a 40k 2.0 electric boogaloo

That’s something I’ve always wondered about, given that the Milky Way is approximately 100 000 light years to across, and assuming that your travelling at around 0.2C (achievable if you have a operating fusion drive - other methods can get you up to 0.8C) that just 500 000 years to cross it just in generation ships, sure you’d need to stop, refuel and reprovision but 99% of this would be spent coasting between stars. With Clark tech like hyperdrive propulsion you could drop that to tens of thousands of years or less

Crispy Baguette faster than anything we’re fairly certain can be built with our current understanding of physics, but nowhere near as fast as hyperdrives, it was going to take voyager 70 years in one of Star fleets fastest ships to get back from the delta quadrant before they messed with Borg trans-warp conduits. While in Star Wars crossing the galaxy takes a few months. Only thing I can think of that’s faster is Warhammer 40ks warp drive, where you can (maybe) arrive before you leave

I find it weird that in the Clone wars most planets are treated like one nation. Like there is only one leader and if there looking for someone it's so fast but there searching an ENTIRE planet.
Yeah, it's one of my gripes about Star Wars. Couldn't some planets have different types of people or at least different biomes? How cool would it be if Kashyyyk had different types of wookiees like desert Wookiees or polar Wookiees rather than the standard jungle ones.

I love that the maps were sort of "spot the planets you recognise" and there's so many I didn't know. To be honest there were a lot I didn't care about but it was interesting seeing the distance between say Dantooine and Coruscant or Tython being in the dead set core, Balmorra sometimes being referred to as a Core World but not being dead set Core like Alderaan and Coruscant.
Apart from the core, I could only find Ryloth.
Unexplored regions = Massive, endlessly exploitable, and very handy plot device. You gotta have that room to grow :-)

So an "UNKNOWN" planet in Star Wars means nobody has visited and studied that planet and recorded it in any kind of detail, however, every star system in the whole galaxy is known of in the sense that is recorded in master maps and the Jedi archives, even those in the "unknown regions" & satellite galaxies. This is similar to remote forests and islands on Earth; we can see them all with satellites and can map out the whole world, but not every remote island or forest has been visited and studied, and some places are harder to get to.

I get the feeling somewhere it was mentioned, the Unknown Regions were vaguely mapped out, but the information was deleted. Mind you they are mapped out by someone out there. The Chiss more than likely know exactly what is out there and where. reason for them being so powerful, to defend themselves from what they know is out there. And the Rakata most definately know what is there and where everything is since they ruled the entire area as well as everywhere else. I suppose if they wanted to get technical, they could say somewhere in that area is our Earth. The reason why we dont see much alien traffic is for that reason, no one really knows we are here. Remember E.T.'s race is now canon for starwars, we got to see his race in a senate scene, and they visited earth.

@@musclegeek1991when they say far far away, even if Earth is right out on the outter rim of the unknown regions, it is still far far away. However I think you are right and we are not part of that one but are perhaps in a direct neighbouring galaxy. Since we know there are other races in the Starwars mythos that came from other neighbouring galaxies. And the E.T. race is fully capable of traveling to other galaxies to explore.
I think what I find so interesting about the history of exploration and travel in the Star Wars universe is that it could mirror or parallel our own future. Being that our galaxy is just so massive, I can totally see future human space exploration favor a certain sector of the galaxy, do to an abundance of resources or something like that, and leave out the another side by accident. Then, after that one well explored sector has been well colonized and explored, we look to the other side and wonder "what's over there? why haven't we explored there before?", thus creating our own "unknown region" of the galaxy.

Great explanation of explorations of half the galaxy.
A few things that you didn’t mention are that species in the Unknown Regions did explore near their homeworlds, just not far enough to make contact with the Republic/Empire/New Republic. These include Chiss, Killiks, Ssi-Ruuvk, etc. Some species such as the Chiss and Nuso Esva’s species had very large territories there.
Then the Empire of the Hand came around. They explored 250 sectors worth of the Unknown Regions and Wild Space. That is the vast majority of the Unknown Regions.
