- This is a follow up video to the drum pad warm up. Sorry if some of the notation is wacky! I used regular notebook paper instead of staff paper smh...Link to my debut album! www.rainbowblo...
I TOTALLY APPRECIATE you posting the unedited version of your lesson. Often times when we watch videos like this, we see only the polished version and never the mistakes the Pros make! Thank you for sharing both versions of your lesson!
You’re one of my favorites, and I absolutely love how honest you are. It’s really easy to enforce being perfect as a drummer but it’s truly a breathe of fresh air to hear you embrace mistakes and let up and coming drummers know, it’s okay to make mistakes in practice and at shows! Well done brother 🤝🏾
Appreciate you bro! 🙏🏿
Agreed! Good job brother Jharis
It's hard to find this, indeed. Not about a drummer but there's a beautiful video of a concert/enterview with legendary Oscar Peterson talking about mistakes with this same kind of honesty. I just love to find this examples. World class violinist Hillary Hahn also used to post some studying practices same way. Gold for us.
Thanks for sharing !!
** Beautiful Kit **
man, the pacing of your video and explanations, the calmness in your voice and even your philosophy with mastering the drums - its all just so refreshing and real compared to so much of youtube. love it man
First time seeing you: I really appreciate how calm you are talking and how honest you stand to mistakes. That's what everybody is encountering when learning and there is no end in learning. We all will get better the longer and more intense we train and yet everybody will still have limits and make mistakes in the area of these limits.
Thank you!
Ive been trying to learn some chops and more compmex rudiments recently but i only realised from watching this video that i havent gone through the simpler stages yet comfortably enough to actaully get to that chop stage yet. Im gonna practice these now so thankyou
Exactly same
Thanks for being a « real » drummer bro! You’re doing on video what we all do……#fearless
Just chiming in with the rest of us: You are a fresh breeze and a lovely person. Thank you for the music and please keep those videos coming! 😊🤗✊
The bonus exercise with the Swiss triplet crossovers was wild ❤️🔥
I've just now started to look at mobility in my playing. I can say this - your willingness to leave in any mistakes made is a tribute to your character and your honesty. It's quite refreshing, frankly. Thank you so much for showing that you're human. Not editing out any mistakes made does not mean that you are any less of a drummer. This video has to be one of the best ones out there about mobility come and it's quite motivating. I'm here for it and you've helped me prioritize this in my playing. Much obliged.
Practical, musical and challenging. I love this stuff and have always been inspired by your amazing playing.
Excellent excellent excellent young brother........keep your path to greatness
Fantastic but let’s talk about the maturity and humility here! Leaving in mistakes, that’s what Tony loved and that’s what’s on display here… going for it and being real with the community. You’re an inspiration bro!
Those are some great exercises. Inspiring! Thanks!
Imparting wisdom. Thank you brother. Peace & best wishes to you and yours! ♪
Loved the fact that although intermediate level stuff you left in the flaws. I tell people I educate if they aren’t dropping they aren’t popping! Brother you be popping! Respect
I do this with multiple practice pads set up around me like a kit. Great exercise. I even picked up a couple sharpies tonight and did this on the dishes that were drying on the countertop. So much fun. And yes, I do drop a stick now and then. I don't have a kit yet. I am a newbie. Just started learning in January. 🥁💜🎶
These are the hands I’m tryin to catch
Great information. I totally agree on the “30 days to faster hands” thing. This all takes time. Nice work
Bro those cymbals, I love them.
I'm gonna def be practicing my mobility for the next little while cus this video. mad respect!
My sticks fly out of my hands all the time. Great video.
Great lesson. Buddy Rich played something similar to the Jerome Flood lick decades ago.
Bro, I’m a huge fan of you and I’m a huge fan of this series that you’re doing! Could you please do a mini lesson on coordination and independence when it comes to your hands and feet? It could be hands and right foot or hands with both right and left foot. Thank you so much bro, you’re doing the Lord’s work🤣🤣👊🏾
Great Lesson. Spectacular 💣 🥁 🎶 🤘
@3:13 Aaaaaaand you have my full respect forever right there. Thank YOU for this video and for emphasizing that mistakes are okay, and worthy of being celebrated. And this is a fantastic mobility video. This is more of what I want in my playing so I can be more dynamic.
Thanks for being human and humane and including errors. Extremely helpful. Thanks!
You're a great teacher and I really enjoyed this video. I don't get to play fast too often because I mainly play songs people dance to but it sure is nice to slip in a fast fill and keep it at tempo. I will enjoy challenging myself in practicing these fills
Thanks man!
Great playing, love the hats and stacks
Justin brown does the first exercise really well
Love your down to earth approach brother. Thanks for the inspiration 🙏❤️
Can’t tell you how helpful these videos are. You’re an incredible musician as well as a truly authentic person. Hope to see you live with Jose James one day. All the best!
Such a refreshing lesson. Great job, Jharis! Sounding killer per usual. JW
Oh my gosh, thank you!! I love the way you showed how to push yourself.
Thanks for those exercises. I'm definitely gonna practice those. 🥁❤️
I need you to upload a guide to the “move on” groove pleeeasee. Your album is great!
Thanks! Will do soon 🙏🏿
Thanks for keeping it real. I like your honesty.
This video is awesome! Gonna implement these into my practice sesh tomorrow!
Definitely gonna work all of these in my practice session tomorrow. Dope vid bruh 🙌🏾
I'm a drummer and I do appreciate what you were saying
Right on, some challenging stuff! I really love ambidextrous exercises, switching lead hands etc.
I had brain surgery a couple yrs ago and the surgeon was actually pretty interested in my drumming, asked about paradiddles. He said he thought it would help with neuroplasticity and healing. I think he was right!
Great album! Nice lesson here too!
Thank you! 🙏🏿
Love the honesty! Very important, good for new & older drummers!
What really makes me laugh is in being self taught, thought I came up with the first exercise you demonstrated. Too funny! Thanks for sharing the exercises & the education!
Yes sirrr Jerome Flood ll! He's a cool guy. He taught me everything you doing on this video. I was in the same GC drumoff with Jerome.
Keep up the good work I watch a lot of these and your lessons are digestible
Great, honest and educational ! 🥁🙏🏻
Cool stuff! Thankx 4 sharing💫
Awesome lesson, immediately got the album
Thank you! 🙏🏿
You’ve just earned yourself a new subscriber
Boss level! Great job Sir!
Thank you Jharis! This is really valuable.
4:43 - this
The og himself
i love how he says "this is the lifetime pursuit" even aside from the double innuendo 😂
Loving the vibe man
duude i was waitin 4 this since before the premier
Great video, impressive control and speed….would love to hear your process or philosophy on creating a short solo during a live performance
Thanks for this man love from SA👊🏾
Dude, these are great 🔥🔥🔥
Let's go! You've been a real inspiration to me lately and you've motivated me to practice again 🙏 Also that kit is 🔥
nice
Amateur here, thank you so much for this video, really helps!
Классные упражнения, спасибо Бро!
Great video!!
Also the kit, tuning & mic work is oN Point!
awesome man really appreciate the lesson! this feels way more useful than most drum stuff on youtube, looking forward to new vids!
🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
Thanks for the inspiration bro
Great video. I subscribed to learn more from you. Thank you
This is awesome, thanks...
The triplet exercise could also be done using paradiddles. It translates to the same pattern around the drums, including the cymbal hits.
Great video, it's has really help me, I will work much on this, wow🎉🎉🎉
Good stuff bud
Please do 4 way / feet independence !!
More please!
Workshopping a few lesson ideas as we speak 👍🏿
Good stuff
Good lessons... Keep teaching & keep on practicing
I especially like that you did the messed up part at the last part because to me that is music, too refined is bad for your health
👍🏻
Great advice too!
Hmm, this channel seems beneficial 😂
Came for the drums, stayed for the ASMR
This comment makes no sense
Ohhhhh, also... and Holy 💩, Bro!! Those Luddies, 🔥 🔥🔥 absolutely gorgeous!!
Subscribed! Excellent video. Do you mostly play french grip it seems?
Thanks! I switch it up based on whatever situation I’m in 🙏🏿
I think right hand lead flam taps are utilized just enough...
you should look into doing some voice over work on the side. You already got the voice and the equipment.
Chris Dave: sets his drums and cymbals in a manner that requires very little effort to hit. Everything is ergonomic. Also, his sounds are all very very dry. Floor tom… recently saw him using a furry calf skin on the floor tom. I mean… only a couch pillow would be drier sounding.
Thomas Pridgen: look at his physique… he is an athlete. He sets his set up in a traditional rock fashion. Nothing out of the ordinary. Large cymbals… larger toms. His style is based around having excellent mobility and strength.
Just thought I’d chime in on some of the drummers mentioned.
What do yall think?
Great video, Do you have PDF file of these riffs written out? Thanks.
@@philipnestor5034 not yet, maybe in the future
Nice, Buy what gor?
I noticed that you started smacking your sticks together as you started getting faster. I noticed I do that a lot and it gets on my nerves. Do you know why that is?
That comes from not being as comfortable sometimes at the faster tempos. Don’t worry though, I’ve heard all the greats click their sticks too 🤘🏿
Ppl are drunk idiots at shows
They only notice when the song is over and they get that wrong sometimes too at the opera. 😂😅😂😅
How long would it take a beginner to get a left hand leading fill at 130 ?
As long as it takes you to get there. Just practice. Practice a lot.
@@alifeinyellow bet thanks
Exactly, everyone is different! As long as you keep practicing I promise you’ll see improvement 🤘🏿
@@jharis.yokley bet I'm tryna get those 5 strokes in with some fills. Tryna get that trap drumming going
I wish my Autistic kids had a drum set
🤔 *YOU DIDN'T MENTION **_"STEVE JORDAN,"_* I am surprised!!!!!!😳 🫢
His mentions are very outdated. This proves to me that Eric Moore does not get the credit he deserves and his chops are godly. When he flies around the set, he makes those fuckin toms sound like water, that's the sound and mobility you want! Even Devin "Stixx" Taylor or CJ Thompson. However this video served some purpose to a degree. I'll take it! 🤷♂️
Oof if we’re at the point where Tony Williams and Dennis Chambers are outdated then that’s a problem. Eric, Devon, and Cj are also some of my favorites
the pinky fingers flying off the stick tho,.. is just not except able ,..
😂😂😂
@@jharis.yokley ( the acrylic kit , my new drum video , recent upload , ,
hi i was actually able to spend a day and make a upload its uploading now will be up soon, and with out a studio its about 30 minutes of audio hell maybe you have a studio and can clean it up a little on your end, if not you can suffer thew it get sum good powered speakers are needed, it would be my advice,. only reason im saying i was able to put up 2 runs on the pad (( keep in mind i went to Boston wen i was 18, 19 and my music theory reading was not very good so i did not graduate )) ( or getin2 go2 Berkley ) // any way that being said,, = i get to demonstrate a little bit of all fingers on the sticks and really what is not a modified timpani teck neek for drum set ,. more like a adapted marching teck neek for drum set ,. i also invented the hollow drum stick and the 1 inch diameter maple marching stick,, this would be like the throw away channel however because there is not much on this the demo now is better then nothing at the moment , cheers :)
love your lessons but the notations are confusing as hell
@@TheShamandrums all good, what’s confusing about them?
@@jharis.yokley it's just a bit hard to tell if its a snare or a floor tom but i got it by slowing down the vid 😂 thank you so much for this❤
@@TheShamandrums my bad, I wasn’t using manuscript paper at that time haha. It will be better in the future!
Berklee?
We all make mistakes..well done😊
this is brilliant teaching sir
Subbed! Ty for sharing some knowledge
Such a great player and yet so humble.
This is hands down one of the best drum tutorials I've seen. Extremely helpful and well thought out.
