Okay, this is like the third time I have tried to post this. Apparently I was wrong about the three bolts over the head, but I wonder to myself, am I alone? How many people thought the same thing. Like, when there;s a detection meter, and that detection meter fills up to the top, I assume that means I've been detected. How many of you wasted your precious life quick loading?
I think it also would've been helpful to have a ui element in the menu that told you if your ghost rating was broken because it would have helped to dispel this disinformation in players immediately and probably would've resulted in a lot less people being turned off by stealth.
Anyway, sorry. I screwed up on that, but who has been hurt more by this mistake, you, or me having quick loaded hundreds of times when I didn't need to?

The awareness levels kinda work like this, In the mind of a dumb guard:
      1. Confused/ Curious at sound or glimpse of something.... Nah, probably just a rat.
      2. Suspicious maybe someone is around...maybe I'll look around the corner but I'm probably crazy.
      3. Convinced enemy is nearby but unsure where...better make a thorough search and get ready....but after a minute I didn't find anyone so I'll just return to post, must be going crazy or I scared them away. edit: unless i found body or continuing evidence of intruder...i'll keep looking and alert others to be aware. still unsure of player location and technically still unbroken stealth status.
4/ Red/ Broken : KNOWS enemy is near and knows location. Alert everyone else. Sees everything and has telepathic communication with allies and satellite uplink to locate intruder instantly. Rush

It is mentioned in notes found in game that you can't one-shot-headshot Overseers from the front, their masks block the shots. It's the same with the music-box man, except he's virtually immune from the front, even from your sword because of the big piece of machinery on the front. it's designed to look like a wheellock but there is no dog/clamp with the iron pyrite and it fires a self-contained cartridge. it looks more like a striker fired pistol to me, where a striker in the gun hits the whale oil in the cartridge which acts both as primer and propellant. idk whether it's muzzle or breechloading but considering how fast the gun is reloaded then it's probably breechloading (+ the upgraded version of the pistol makes it belt-fed so it's probably breechloading for that to work). also probably the default version is unrifled because it's pretty inaccurate but it can be upgraded to rifled since the upgraded version is pretty accurate.

@@StratEdgyProductions It's crazy how you could make a 50 min video without getting the basics of how the game works. 20:40 the guard doesn't know where you are, he just knows that someone is hiding somewhere, so of course the guard won't rush to your position. So all your rant about sleep dart is really misplaced, they work as intended.
When a guard sees another one getting shot, he becomes suspicious and start to look for the shooter. The guards are not "able to do visual calculus on par with that guy from a beautiful mind", they just find you because on most of the clips you show, you stay out in the open after shooting one dart (like 17:45 you're just standing on top of a rooftop in front of a guy, so when they're suspicious now he looks up, of course he's gonna see you, it's not rocket science).

@@robinmattheussen2395 If you have to look online for an explanation to something as simple and basic in a stealth game as "how visible am I?" then you are looking at a stealth game that has failed in one of the most key areas of design for the whole genre, player feedback.
A good way to look at stealth games is as a series of puzzles, they typically tend to be more based on observation and problem solving skills than twitch reflexes and improvisation.
In both puzzles and stealth games a very important feature is the degree of knowledge the player has about the environment, the actors within it and themselves, from that they can plan a solution out and then try to execute it as best as possible (this probably also explains why a lot of fans of old school stealth games have a rather perfectionist attitude regarding stealth), the more ambiguity and unknowns you throw into a situation the more you take it from a planning and execution challenge to one of improvisation at best and trial and error at worst.
Now a focus on improvisation works fine in an action game (which is helped here by several of DH's options being very action oriented) but it also probably goes to explain why Strat (and likely a lot of fans of games like Thief) weren't too fond of Dishonored and got frustrated with it easily, not helped by a lot of the press surrounding the games launch proclaiming it to be a spiritual successor to Thief when it is a very different type of game overall.

Strat thinks that 3 white lightning bolts counts as detection when they have to break and turn red for it to count as a detection. Strat also must have accidentally bungled his audio settings because he says that either the AI doesn't bark thinks like "ill find you" or you can't hear them denote that they are more aware than they used to be. if i had a nickel for everytime ive heard "ill find you, you hagfish" playing this game, id be rich man. its still an ultimately praiseworthy review but make sure you actually have proper information on these systems. Also, the only cutscenes in this game are the boat rides with samuel, and havelock's briefings. its kind of a big mistake to assume there are cutscenes in dishonored between missions and call out the PC port for not having them.

What i think deserves mention is the prison level also tutorializes these AI states in a subtle way. You have an easier time sneaking through the courtyard while the guards are talking because when guards are in conversation, they are even less aware than normal patrolling enemies, as they're focusing on a conversation. but anyway, thanks for the response.

Mate, It seems like you need another playthrough. Your entire rant about "Stuff that breaks stealth" doesn't make any sense, because those things don't break stealth. They only raise awareness. The complaint about footsteps is reasonable, but I still disagree. I have about 20 playthroughs of the game and like 15 of them were without Dark Vision. There are two reasons for that. Reason number one: Dishonored is built around taking high ground, surveying, going down for the kill and then returning to the high ground. Don't really need footsteps when you can see everyone from above. Reason number two: guards constantly speak. They chat with each other and have situational barks that alert you to their movements, plans and awareness state. All in all, I'm happy that you enjoyed the game, but man, it's so much better than this, you just didn't get how it works.

I've beaten every single Dishonored game and DLC with no kills, full ghost and no supernatural powers (except Blink) or upgrades from the first time I played them and had close to zero issues with any of the stealth mechanics. Yeah, there's occasionally a somewhat annoying or tricky situation that you have to try a bunch of times, but nothing that could ruin the (amazing) experience. I'm not saying my experience invalidates yours of course, it's just that I can't really recall anyone else mentioning having all these issues. Maybe I just have more patience? I don't know. A lot of his issues seem to stem from not understanding the fundamental mechanics of the game. For example, he seems to think that stealth is broken whenever the piano sound plays, when it really just means you've been detected to some degree. In addition, all the issues he had getting the game to run can't all be the game's fault. It might be anecdotal but I've played this game both on a laptop that really wasn't designed to play games and a purpose built gaming PC (not to mention console but that's not really relevant here) and didn't run into anything even approaching half the amount of issues he had. Every game has it's optimization issues that need to be worked out on the first boot, but this was suspiciously excessive. Sounds like he's got too many other background programs running, or maybe it was outdated drivers, or maybe some of those background programs have hotkeys that he keeps hitting while playing... either way it seems like his issue of "if a game has problems, I get all of em" might have more to do with something he's done than an oversight by the developers.

I have max difficulty Ghost runs in Dishonored 1, 2, and all DLCs, and bolts over someone's head doesn't compromise a ghost run until they "break," signifying that you've been spotted.

It's tragic that you believed that the white lightning bars meant you were detected, it just means they're looking for you, they turn red when you're actually detected. Almost every issue you had with the game is because you misunderstood the detection system 🤣. You're definitely right about footsteps not being a useful way to detect people and the choke being a little buggy though. And the game definitely has 2D semi-animated tutorials, and cutscenes. I always got them on my PC version, but it's a major bummer you didn't.

The sleep dart argument is strange, because I've never experienced it. Maybe just try a different play style and approach from a different angle. I'm only saying this, because in most of the gameplay you provide you're rather close to them the trick is to do it from above. Also the guy outside of granny rags' house turns around, because you are walking backwards whilst choking the guy.

The thing that really made me fall in love with the game is the aesthetic and environment. It's so dark and beautiful at the same time, despite the death and disease that affects every part of the game world. And the way you return to the hideout and can just relax for a while in between missions, letting you take a breather and interact with other characters for a while. And the worldbuilding, you could spend an entire afternoon reading all the literature and songs and history that have been scattered through the game. And I will never forget the horror I felt the first time I saw the rats eat a corpse in seconds; it was genuine, not some cheap jumpscare

Same. I love the art style and atmosphere to death (pun intended). At the same time, because of the thick atmosphere, I couldn't play longer than maybe 2-3 hours I got kind of feeling down because of it. It is one of the most beautiful games ever. Especially in the DLCs. The light, the architecture, it all feels so beautifully nostalgic. Dishonoured 2 is even more beautiful to me. Never before I admired a ceiling lamp in a game for several minutes or enjoyed the atmosphere of a simple room and wished I could live in a flat like this, in a city like that.

About the sound: I just came off of Thief 1 and 2 and replayed Dishonored again, did a mostly flesh and steel/clean hands/ghost/shadow run and just finished it. That means no dark vision and just level 1 blink for the whole thing. I was thinking that without the amazing sound design and being able to hear exactly where guards are, I wouldn't have been able to do it. Maybe your headphones weren't high enough? I think the footsteps aren't nearly as loud as Thief's guards but it still sounds like everybody's wearing stilettos. I think the biggest thing is the ambient guard noises. They're always coughing or sniffing, mumbling (stupid goddamn) or calling people choffer. It mostly just encourages you to slow down, find a safe spot and case it for a while before moving on.

This is a really simple thing. The awareness bolts showing up isn’t breaking stealth. Not the first one, nor the second one with the little stinger, not even the third. Stealth is broke when they shatter and guards start attacking. You will still get ghost if you pop a guard in the head, another sees it, and runs for cover, so long as they never see you during this.
Edit: And other people said this two years ago - I figured they would. Just had to say it because I’ve beat Dishonored like thirty times in basically every way imaginable. lol

As far as sleep darts are concerned, you can't always dome someone because overseers have metal masks. Sleep darts also have an upgrade which makes them instantaneous. If you pair that upgrade with the upgraded time stop, you can take out numerous opponents at once (which i think is an achievement). Plus, from what i can tell, you seem to think three lightning bolts over the head is broken stealth but that just means that they're on high alert. If someone is on high alert, they'll only notice you if you do something highly noticeable such as shooting a bullet or bolt near or at them or if they see you. If they seem a comrade suddenly collapse, it's only reasonable for them to go to high alert. If anything, the game should be more punishing by breaking stealth if they inspect the body because they should either see the puncture mark or the syringe.
Edit: you should also keep in mind that most (if not all) maps have a route that keeps you out of sight. For instance, at 18:40 there's light posts you can blink onto which keeps you above the ground away from enemies. In the map for the second mission where you have to neutralise Campbell, there's a ledge of the second story of the building you can reach by blinking onto the light posts and then blink to the ledge

I didn't notice these gameplay problems when I played the game. I played my first run with quicksave on speed dial and considered that run to be fairly easy. So much so that I made the deal with myself to use reloading as little as possible on my second run, because one of the cool aspects of Dishonored is owning your mistakes. The Chaos system also makes a lot more narrative sense when it's something you have to deal with, rather than choosing to do a Low Chaos or High Chaos run when you start the game. The entire game is more tense, not just because of immediate situations, but because you're also competing against your own past mistakes. I maintained Low Chaos all the way until the very last level. Trying so hard and still ending up the bad guy is a lot more meaningful that way. Probably one of my best video game experiences, if I'm being honest.

What's going on with the stealth in your game is incredibly weird, at least from what I remember. I could get away with a fuck ton more than what you'd get detected for, especially with the sleep darts. Maybe I was corner peeking all the time when I did those and didn't pay attention to that difference? I recommend you to put this clip on private.
I usually like your stuff, I really do, but this review contains so many errors that it's not even funny anymore. People have commented enough on it already for you to not need me to list them again. Only thing I'd give you the benefit-of-doubt on is the 2d inter-mission cutscenes. I've never seen them, but I can't prove that they straight up don't exist, either. Closest thing that comes to mind is the ending slide-show, and the tutorials, too.
Please rethink your way of approaching this type of "review". You certainly know a lot more about game design that I do, but even I recognize someone talking out off their ass. You are wrong on how the AI engages with the player, yet your way of explaining your observations made the impression that you looked into its code, or had some other greater insight than me. First I was confused, since I couldn't remember any such frustrating situations with scripted detections a.s.o., and then I got angry and frustrated from reading in the comments that I'm not an oblivious bafoon, that failed to notice this stuff when I was playing the game, but that you were simply wrong in your assumptions and disguised them as facts.
I don't accuse you of doing this intentionally, but I'd like you to stop to use authoritative language on stuff that you clearly haven't looked into thoroughly.
As I said, I usually like your clips very much, and I'd like you to succeed with future videos.
This one should just get deleted, and remade.
