Don't confess when you don't KNOW that YOU actually hit the cat! If you looked and didn't see anything (a hurt cat, cat hair and blood, etc) in your driveway, most likely YOU didn't hit it! Even if though did, but there was no evidence (blood in the driveway), it was an accident! It was unfortunate, but why was the cat out that late at night (...trespassing on your property)? You said it wad late at night, the cat PROBABLY got hit (really badly) by someone driving down the street (driving at least 25mph, not slowly pulling into a driveway) and got it's leg broken. Either way, maybe the neighbor will keep his cat in the house late at night instead of just letting it roam the neighborhood all night long. As Steve said, "Cats get hit all the time!"
What was that cat doing out,roaming around. It's not safe for animals, especially domesticated animals, to be out running loose. People nowadays are very,very cruel, mean,heartless, vindictive. They think nothing of sacrificing any and all animals, children, etc.
