When I see I’m 35 yards longer average distance (not top end) to people similar to my handicap index off the tee that really opens up my eyes to how bad the rest of my game is 😂
@@bitspieces7116 drive a 300 yard green roll over the green duff a chip, decide to putt and send it, the. 3 putt for a double is more realistic for me! Hah! I think I’ve found the problem
putting and chipping is a separate game within the game, i have mates that are 30 yards longer than me off the tee, but I'm 14 hcp and they are 18/19 hcp🤘 in saying that, I'm ditching the 3 wood off the tee (safety) for driver to gain the extra 30-40 yards so i can have 3 less irons into the green😁. It would be nice to have a wedge in hand over a 6 or 7 iron on par 4's.
Love this series! Your dive into varying your wedge options reminded of an idea from the TXG channel: building a wedge "matrix" by charting how far your each of your wedges go at 75% (shoulder-high) and 50% (hip-high), in addition to knowing your carry at full swing. Can't wait for the next video!
Mark, I couldn't agree more with your point about practicing strike. I have been battling weak fade/slice with my driver in my short golfing career, and one day I decided to try this one tip from YT abt hitting off the high toe at my local driving range. Voila, no more weak fade/slice. The balls mostly went straight, baby fade, or even baby draw if I hit it too far off the toe. By having the intent to hit it off the toe, I may have shifted my strike pattern away from the heel. Although drawing the ball unintentionally is not ideal, it is not as bad as 30-40yard slice to the right. It has been 1 month since and my last 4 rounds I have been hitting fairways ~70%, and most of my misses are still within acceptable margin. All this time I had been focusing too much on swing path and club face when the answer to my problem was simply to have/practice better strike quality.
It's so true. Struggled with my driver for years. Speed was never a problem it was always accuracy. It was really holding me back. I'd shoot around 80 most of the time. Then out of nowhere last year something clicked, started finding middle with much better path and clubface control. Instead of 6\7\8 irons I'm coming in with wedges. Scores have absolutely tumbled to the point where I'm getting close to shooting par for the first time.
I can relate to this very much. Still a young golfer but I started around 13. Stopped playing golf when I was 17 because I never hit driver and never found any way to even get close to par (around a 28hcp at the time). Decided to dedicate hours at the range last summer to get better at hitting driver which turned it into my most confident club in the bag as well as changing my game into hitting 9 iron and down into greens! Actually scoring pars now Edit: I am 22 now, a fair bit stronger than before and currently around a 17hcp
Another very helpful video, thank you! Quick question.. 10yds gained is = 1.8 strokes gained for a single hole or over 18 holes? Sorry, the strokes gained thing confuses me at times although I understand the concept.
I’m not sure it does as much as stretching. You cannot tell me that Matt Fitzpatrick is physically stronger than Stewart Cink, yet he hits it 30yds further, you see this all over the tour
@@patrickscribner Long-drive champions spend more of their training time in the gym pumping iron, than hitting balls. Contrary to popular beliefs, pumping iron does not inhibit flexibility. When using these Arccos stats are we taking into account other variables? Or indeed considering whether something is causal or simply coincidence? If you’ve found ten yards off the tee for instance… well chances are you’re playing more… so what he caused the scores to come down??
The cascading effects of gaining speed and strike…. Boom…. Great stuff Mark! It’s encouraging to see people still be able to change and grow even if that story hasn’t unfolded for us yet… I could definitely use the distance gains for my game!

Without swing analysis it would be hard to say but common things would be, Confidence - often swing speeds lower with lower confidence which will lower yardage AoA - angle of attack is probably well down instead of up. Get on a simulator and measure your angle of attack, you'll be amazed how down you are even when you think you are smashing up on it. Mark did a video on this actually and you really do have to exaggerate it. Like Mark mentioned as well, if you are slicing you can say goodbye to yardage
16 handicapper can’t get below that without increasing my driving distance currently 200 to 220 yards. Having lessons but will try a work out to. I think all aspects of my swing need to improve, faster more full on blows with better body turn. It’s my goal this year to get 25 yards on my drives.

They shouldn't be referred to as ladies and junior tees. They're actually the tee that will give you a true test of the course design.
So true, some golf clubs have yet to understand this concept in their weekly comps. The new handicap system, allows you to play from forward tees and compete against guys from black tees.

Interesting the comment on accuracy. My coach has always said, when you get it right your get distance and accuracy comes for free!
