    Mount Greylock is the highest point in Massachusetts and reigns supreme over both the Taconics to the west and Berkshires to the east. It is perhaps the most literary of highpoints influencing numerous authors including such American luminaries as Nathaniel Hawthorne, Henry David Thoreau, and Herman Melville. These days Mt. Greylock provides some of the best views in the state. Join us as we explore America and go highpointing!

    This was my 3rd HP.
    That little cabin across the lake, on the AP trail I think, is beautiful. Most of my pictures from that hike came from there.

      I loved that spot, as soon as I saw it I knew I had to do something with it.

    Great video... thanks again! And just a personal opinion... this episode has some of the best photography you've ever posted. Composition, color, light shading, everything. just really nice!

      Thanks Steve! I really appreciate that especially considering how long that film day was.

    Great video. Maybe my favorite. Can't believe it's taken me this long to watch. Greylock is only a little over an hour from my house and I've hiked it from all four points of the compass, including the Cheshire Harbor Trail most recently. Again, very well done.

      Thank you! Of all the regions I have done I think the New England episodes are some of the best as a group.

    I recognize the Chief Greylock statue at 12:39 because it's in Battery Park in Burlington, VT. Can't wait for the Mt. Mansfield episode!

    Thanks for sharing the geological background on this, nobody else talks about this and it is what makes your videos distinctly interesting. Of course that is my subjective opinion as a former seismologist, lol. I should also point out from an historical timeline, if you follow recent archaeological news, we now have incontrovertible evidence that indigenous peoples were on the North American continent during the Ice Age!

      The geology on these places has become one of my favorite things. As for early Americans on the continent during the Ice Age I'm not surprised. Humans have proven time and time again that as a species we are incredibly travelers.

    Excellent, interesting, and informative video Skye!! Having just visited the Galax, Virginia area, I highly recommend a visit to Pilot Knob, near Mt. Airy, NC, and driving some of the Blue Ridge Parkway near Galax.

      Used to drive the I77 stretch of road when I'd go on leave in Marine Corps days. Traveling from Camp Lejeune to Wisconsin. Never got on the Blue Ridge Parkway there.

      @@RooftopsofAmerica Buffalo Mountain, on the Parkway between Mabry Mill and VA route 8, is just under 4,000 feet, with an impressive overlook/amazing view. Lover's Leap, on US 58 East on Meadows of Dan, is 3100 feet. This part of VA is full of amazing views!!

    Nice job. A little bit different format then the others. Love it. I was in a time crunch when I did this one so I just drove to the top but I am going to go back and hike one of the trails to the top to say I officially summitted it

    • @RooftopsofAmerica
      @RooftopsofAmerica  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was trying to do something a little different this time but also this was a solo effort for me so I had to bag all the filming and the hike in one go. Needless to say it made for a very long day. I was cooked by the time I got home.

    This is another of those highpoints you can drive your car to somewhere within a short distance of the summit. How many total can you basically drive to within a short distance of the top?

    • @RooftopsofAmerica
      @RooftopsofAmerica  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can do about half of them as drive ups. (I consider it a drive up if the highpoint is less than a half mile from where you parked the car.)

    Hey what are your defenses against black flies?

    • @RooftopsofAmerica
      @RooftopsofAmerica  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I grew up in the Northwoods of Wisconsin so I still have a long, ongoing dislike of black flies, honestly hate them. My best defense is long sleeves, pants, a hat, and a boatload of bug spray. The only other option is to hike in the months when black flies aren't as prevalent.
