That didn't look like Varza a la Cluj. I think it was "Varza călită cu ciolan afumat" (stewed cabbage with smoked pork knuckle). Varza a la Cluj is layered cabbage and minced meat, similar to sarmale in taste.

Always first taste the sour soup then add whatever else there is. The soup is made to be tasteful without additions. You add vinegar or sour cream if your taste require it. But starting with a tripe soup is a bit risque, there are other soups to taste which are not so weird.
What is better: Hungarian or Romanian cuisine? I would go to the girls behind you: I don‘t want my whole apartment to be flooded. Okay!? 😳 😆 Stay together. But: Not in my apartment. 😂
we have different types of soups and ciorba...this one must be a little sour to much because its eaten after a hangover....they say soup is sweet and ciorba sour but we have many sweet ciorbas too.....ciorba de burta and radauteana are my favorite because they are the only vreamy ones with garlic and they dont taste at all romanian to me

What you tasted was not ,,mici'' but a mocking of...made for clueless tourists. Those are premade mici ,frozen,the cheapest they find in the supermarket,they defroze them in the microwave,toss them in the oil fryer where they fry potatoes and other stuff(of course they wouldn't replace a bucket of sunflower oil to make 2 mici for you...) It's like you would go to Italy to taste traditional pizza and you order it at McDonalds😄 If you really want to taste mici,go to the farmer markets. You will spot the grill-barbecue shop by a loooong line of people waiting.....if you see locals waiting in line,you will know you are at the right place.That's the place where the mici are prepared from fresh meat ,grilled with charcoal and sold by a scale of thousands per day.
