This is it. We fly into Venom's core and fight Andross, the final boss. Remember if you fly to Venom from Area 6 this will be the true final battle.

Andross has revived himself 3 to 4 times now an even as a Ghost in Command. Where his spirit finally moves on after seeing how well his successor is doing

The "Never give up, trust your instincts" from Fox's dad is honestly such a great example of environmental storytelling. During a ton of times in the story you can hear Peppy say the same line, and it's kind of just left to the player to realize, it was probably originally Fox's dad's saying, but Peppy adopted it after his death.

I always finished this game with the destroyed wings, it gave the feeling that it was a rough battle
Actually, I like it that way. It just shows that this battle is very terrifying and tense.
And that was a big downfall of the final fight with him in Star Fox adventures. You can have one snippet of health and look as new as when you had full.

Andross made me truly terrified as a child when I first played the game, and to this day, that laugh and the way he follows you and just traps you in his true form sends chills down my spine.

This version gave you true emotion to the characters however in the remastered star fox 64 3d they sound like they are just reading the lines there is no emotion. In this game they characters actually sound afraid or happy whichever emotion they are trying to convey that's why I still love this game

Same here. I kept running out of the room when my cousin or brother got to him. They also for some reason struggled against him so that just added to it.
So it’s very satisfying to him get blown to bits.

This is the ONLY appearance of him. He cannot be seen in other games. The only way you can see him in person is in this game. Search some pictures up.
@@doom-guy6716 no. He appears in Star Fox Zero in the final part of Andross battle while escaping Andross. Andross even acknowledges his presence ("Curse you, James McCloud. Why won't you stay dead?") Once again guiding Fox away as Andross tries to eat you as you two escape
My father passed away when I was young. So I always despised Starwolf for trying to hurt Fox with insulting comments about his believed to be deceased father. They reminded me of the kids in a village where I moved to when I was nine. One of them told me he was glad my father was dead. So in a sense i destroyed THEM when I blasted Starwolf to bits. This is getting a bit of a longer story than planned but let's just say this game fulfilled me on so many levels; emotionally, aesthetically, and above all it was FUN!

As a kid this was the first game I had ever heard voice acting in, it completely blew my mind.
The Chaos Dragoness its nothing compared to bad fur day and perfect darks voice acting and they only had two people for them which were the devs themselves
The father looks badass tho, even his glasses are epic.
I like that Fox wears similar shades in the Hard Mode.
He was Morpheus from the Matrix before the Matrix existed (Star Fox 64 was released in 1997, and the Matrix in 1999).

My heart can't take this every single time i play this game
I remember when I was like 5 first defeated the true andross for the first time and how he exploded and it followed with silence and a white screen. I thought the game froze and my cousin was heading for the reset button but i told her to wait. Good thing I did cause after that i heard a new character talk, Fox's dad, and i was excited seeing that I had unlocked a new part in the story of the game. Man, I wish I could relive those sweet memories..

Can't believe I just wrote a similar comment, the same happened to me!! Playing a second time the white screen gap is quite short, but it was like an eternity to me, I also thought the N64 got stuck!!! 😀😃🙂 oh those memories.

Nostalgia bomb-- this boss always was existentially terrifying to me as a kid. Being swallowed up-- yikes. And then, the tunnels escape-- the smoke and flames obscuring your vision-- still gets me yelling for more boost! Ah, the memories.

That shit got me for around 5 years when I was around 14 y/o. It's a walk in the park nowadays, but, It made me know the meaning of true and unfathomable dread. Mind the edginess, but, It's cool to know that fear truly is. :P

Glenn Rezzener idk. In my opinion Giygas is creepier. His theme song and HORRIFYING appearance is enough to prove that. Andross is more "cool" than "creepy" to me...

I remember as a kid the brain fight being much easier, when i revisited as a teenger then adult it was hard!!! Then thinking the game froze after you defeat Andross.
Also on a personal note, that ending with James McCloud be hitting different when you grow up with daddy issues.

I first played this game when I was 5 years old back in '98. My older brother introduced me to this game and we would play for hours. He died 5 months ago, but my memories of playing video games with him will always remain with me.
Seeing the true form Andross for the first time after fighting the robot version for so long was, fucking terrifying. I was so freaked out I couldn't play the game for like a month lol
This game with: Mario 64 & Pokemon Stadium was my favorite games in Nintendo 64 back from my childhood and it always is my favorites, i wish i can play those games again :')

That's usually how it is. Falco can always hold his own, Peppy can to a degree, and Slippy is more of a liability than anything.
+TheSportsman131 its how thier characthers are built falco is the teams ace pilot peppys an older team mate of james mcloud and slippys just a mechanical and shield anylyzing expert
Basically, Falco mainly helps with offensive areas and mainly attacks, Peppy gives you advice through levels and reminds you of the current objective, and Slippy acts as a warning sometimes and analyzes the shield so you know the bosses health. Essentially, you need all three for a good run.

I always wondered if Andross in the dialog screen is really himself who's piloting the brain or just a manifestation.
My dad loved this game and bought it when I was like 6. He'd always play up until the Macbeth level, where he kept getting stuck. He always let me play his last two lives lol. Best memories.

Isn't it funny how that happens? Somebody just showed up where I am with a SNES and the original Star Fox. Played it through the default route in one go but finished on my last life. I didn't know what I was ready for though, from having already defeated "Andross" in the original.
Fun fact: Andross' model has four tongues.
The first is the obvious tongue that you can clearly see.
The second is on the ROOF of his mouth (Don't believe me? You can spot it at 1:46)
This was done as the tongue was a fleshy texture, and the roof of the mouth had no texture specifically made for it.
The third and fourth ones make up the flesh-like texture on each side of the inside of his mouth.
Nice use of saving storage space by reusing textures, but still... creepy...
Never noticed i played the game hundreds of times to collect everything. When your in the zone playing you don't see those things.

1:51 - When I take a massive hit of weed
6 years old I always thought I was the greatest when I beat the robot. 12 years old was When I got curious on how to get to the other planets I finally tried shooting the eight switches on mcbeth and then my skills were truly put to the test. Barely made it through Area 6 and Had the battle of my Life against Star Wolf2 and It felt like I went beyond my limits when I faced off true Andross. But what really made me cry tears of joy was when I heard James Mcloud say "youve become so strong fox" til this day this game will always be an all time favorite for me

Long time ago, when I first saw this true boss, it game me the creeps.... wtf? a flying brain? And it felt like a pain to destroy it as it kept chasing me around. Scary, but awesome!

This battle was so satisfying. It was challenging just to get to this point, but the battle itself was even more challenging. It's macabre, too, to realize that Andross had become so deranged that he mutated himself into an enormous floating brain with physics defying powers. The final moment where you erupt from the chute with a nuclear fireball mere meters from swallowing you is exhilarating and triumphant.
I'm trying to remember what happens if you take a wrong turn. I think you just fly into a wall of flame?
That ending made me a little sad though. Poor fox.
I clearly remember when I beat this game for the first time going through the "hard way". I was so impacted by the whole final battle (Andross was probably the scariest boss I had fought against back in the day, not to mention the brain version that I was fighting for the first time) that when I beat the brain, the white screen gap until James McCloud shows up was like a complete eternity to me. I thought the N64 broke or got stuck, I remember all the thoughts running fast through my head, and after what I believed to be around 2 minutes, James starts talking... woah. I almost shit my pants. What a game!!! My hands were so sweaty I missed some turns and eventually got lost and had to take the final turn completely blind, thrust not working, one touch and out... and I made it!! I will never forget that magic moment.
In my opinion it feels like foxes dad spirit was trapped in andross and when fox finished him off he was free and able to help his son one last time before he can move on. Crazy.

L And Z button skill + Hyper Lasers + Strike behind Andross' brain = easy win. Even on Expert mode (As long as you don't get hit to much from Star Wolf's Wolfen Mk 2.)

Andross continues to scare me in this even more than in the 3ds remake. My one question is where the heck do you fight him? At first I questioned how he ended up a giant head with floating hands until I figured it was because of his experiments. Still where the heck do you fight him? Some kind of pocket dimension?

The true final boss used to scare me when I was a kid. Anyone else?
I was initially creeped out even by Andross' robot form. But yeah, battling a giant floating brain alone in a middle of a bottomless pit...Add in to that the creepy organ sound and the effect is even more amplified. But once you finally managed to blow Andross to kingdom come, the moment was all the more sweeter. And then the feels after following James's spirit and escaping Venom...

His name in Japanese, "Andorf" derives from the word "Android" so maybe he's that.

@@sakuyaizayoi8528IIRC he was a mad scientist with a thing for bio-weapons (which can be seen in-game as two of its bosses are his kaiju) and got banished for it. The implication here is that he modified himself so much that he became a giant monster himself. (note that this might be from the SNES canon, it's been a long time since I got the info)
I've been playing this game since I was a kid and I never know about this ending because I could never beat Star Wolf right before.
That was so touching...
The part where he laughs when you begin the fight, combined with the fact that he becomes a giant brain made him a legitimately scary fight as a kid. Finding out that he was a regular ape that experimented on himself to become that way makes him even scarier. The fact that Nintendo was willing to tackle even a light form of body horror back in the day makes me wish they’d do something like that again.
