Man Area 6 is such a sick level, full on head first, run it down mid, full throttle, taking on an entire armada, leaving nothing but ash and rubble behind
This and Venom 1. My favorite levels. Almost 30 years later and still a challenge on expert if you’re going for points. This guy’s amazing. I always get my wings clipped on those two levels at least once.
I've always liked how everyone gets involved. It's total chaos as Caiman and the other commander are in a panic, and ROB is there to help you out, only for Andross himself to make his first appearance, to interrupt and taunt you while his home planet gets visibly closer.
@@el.blanco552 Well it takes the same amount of shots as other ships of that kind, it's just the fact that it's so far out there, I didn't even think it would be in range.
i love star fox levels where the whole squad is breaking through something, which in theory is all of them but there are some levels that feel more special like when a guess character is invited, bill, kat, star wolf, area 6 and assault last level feel like that
@@verguco6051 for sure the best levels always make it feel like the team is 'actually' there and its awesome imo sector x, sector z, and the aparoid homeworld core are the best examples of it losing slippy the first time because he tried to help in the boss fight makes the characters seem so much more real, and (even if it makes getting medals harder) the whole team and katt actually helping stop the missiles in sector z was super cool nothing was cooler than star wolf's team drawing the aparoids away at the end of assault though
@@southpen4558 the teleporter in assault where you have to destroy some misiles with star wolf help, not only you can hear star for and star wolf talking but random soldiers, it feels like a big battle is happening
I just realized this was Expert Mode. That means this was a Flawless Run (or really close to it), since any collision will break a wing and take away the laser power-ups.
The commander's panic and disbelief is genuinely amazing at 3:16; I think it's the best-acted line in the game and at the level of any of the best voice-acted games today.
Whenever you think about how bullshit it is that 4 fighters and a small cruiser fought from Cornelia to Venom and destroyed the greatest militarized industrial complex Lylatt ever saw, this was probably what Fox was like IRL.
Beat this game thousands of times the " wrong way " as a kid and never even realized there was an alternative until I found my old N64 in the attic when I was about 19 and popped the game in lol. Huge smile when after all those years I got to beat the real final boss and not his robot lol.
Same, that is until my dad found the ways to get to Area 6 from Macbeth. We could never pull off Sector Z without losing a wing from the Great Fox. Doing Sector Z on a medal run is fierce!!!
My god. I remember being mesmerized by brr890's TAS of this level over a decade ago. I honestly didn't think it could be improved upon. Well done! Will you be doing any other levels once you complete Venom 2, or are you just sticking with the 'highest score possible' route for the time being?

I love how Star Fox team just does a straight up assault on this base wrecking everything that’s thrown at them, and the chatter between the enemies being so nervous and terrified. Nintendo could never do a level this epic again, it would so kid friendly and have some weird gimmick.
@@Arel5962 Tool-assisted runs actually take a LOT of time and effort to make, since decisions are made frame-by-frame and there's a lot of routing work, save states, etc, used to get an optimal run. The goal of a TAS is generally to demonstrate a theoretically "perfect" playthrough of a game or level (in this case, the maximum achievable score), and it requires quite a lot of in-depth understanding of how a game works. The end result we're seeing is a compilation of decisions, edits, and executions the runner made, and a good TAS can be even harder to pull off than a "normal" human run :)
In normal gameplay, if you cone from Macbeth, what is the quickest way to get double blue lasers on this stage. I ask this question because I want to be able to start the star wolf fight on venom 2 with double blue lasers. Thank You.

He just watched every fighter, space station, frigate, and cruiser that dared get in front of Fox get blown away without a single hit being landed against him in return, and he thinks yelling "Don't let 'em through!" is going to somehow affect the outcome of this?
I thought the score either capped at 511 or subtracted around that point depending on which revision Star Fox 64 you played. How are you getting a full score?

I want to know the same thing. I get knowing when and where to shoot (figure out when and where to shoot for best effect and then just practice the pattern over and over), but that rate of fire? Is it a function of getting the sunglasses, or a tool outside the game?
@@balrighty3523 It's like in prime, there's a certain rhythm you have to get down for holding the a button and releasing to fire normal shots rapidly, or is you hold just a bit longer and release, you can fire charged attacks back to back
@@balrighty3523 when you press and hold A, you do a quick 3-round burst before you start doing a charged shot. You have to press, hold, release, repeat rhythmically just before the "charging" happens. This allows for shooting very fast
Expert mode. Fox wears sunglasses like his dad and the game is quite a bit harder, but offers more enemies to kill, making it superior for score attack.
I find it comical that you went out of your way to reduce your team to just a pixel of health so you can show off how they return to full health anyway because your score is so high.

The somersault was to slow me down enough to get a Hit+4 and a Hit+4 (which is also the same as a Hit+8). 3:03 - That middle ship has extra health (as denoted by its different coloring). You'll notice I kill it with an indirect charge shot just off the bow of the ship. You'll hear the Gold Ring noise. 3:25 - There's a wall of 9 enemies that fly in. The somersault delays the spawn of the final 3 ships so that I can get a Hit+1 on all 9 enemies. Not sure what you mean by mis-timed charge shot. I hit every singe enemy in that section for a bonus point. I recommend using the < and > on your keyboard to do frame advance in youtube. 3:36 - I get a Hit+4 and a Hit+2 on those missiles. Just remember that those Hit+X messages can appear off-screen since I am moving around.
Trying to get a high score, they may have been trying to lower their health as much as possible, to knock them off at the beginning of Venom 2, so there was no risk of them stealing any of his kills.
I don’t agree with some of the moves here. When I played this level, I avoided damaging Peppy when taking out those missiles by using normal laser shots, didn’t miss the gold rings or the checkpoint, nor ignore the incoming messages.
You lose points by taking out missiles with lasers instead of indirect hits with the charge shot. The Great Fox will destroy ships for you if you answer his calls which also loses you points, and I had to miss the checkpoint to get into position to get the extra points on those enemies. Missing the gold rings is a style choice so that I enter Venom 2 with two gold rings.

The point isnt getting the medal, its getting the high score. Medal was achieved in the first minute. Your gameplay choices are more for a casual run. Besides, im sure we're all guilty of intentionally damaging our wingmates. I sure did.
@@GamingGuy84I respect the way you play the game but as a player who has broken 600 points on this level, this TAS is absolutely flawless. He didn’t miss a single point. Whenever you get a hit+1 the hit is the points you get for the enemy dying while the +1 is a bonus point for taking it out indirectly. By hitting peppy you are destroying the missiles indirectly which gets you 2 points instead of 1. For a run trying to demonstrate the absolute maximum possible score you could theoretically get, getting every single +1 is essential.

Pretty awesome. My all time record on this level was somewhere around 550 hits but over 800 is absurd. Most impressive.
I still get around 330-350 both on the OG and 3DS Remake.

It only happens on the ranking screen. You can see it for a couple frames right before the final invoice screen in my maximum score run
There are two versions of Star Fox 64. One caps the score to prevent an underflow glitch. The original release has no cap.
