      Qualified immunity is a legal doctrine that protects government officials, including police officers, from personal liability for violating a person's constitutional rights. The doctrine is generally available if the law violated was not "clearly established" at the time of the officer's actions.
      Here are some key points about qualified immunity:
      When it applies
      Qualified immunity applies when a government official violates a law that was not "clearly established" at the time. This means that the legal standards were not clear enough for a reasonable official to know that their actions were unlawful.
      When it doesn't apply
      If qualified immunity doesn't apply, the government employee or official is technically responsible for money damages, but the government entity usually pays.
      How it's been used
      Qualified immunity has been used to protect officers accused of misconduct, including excessive use of force and fatal shootings.
      Criticism
      Qualified immunity has been criticized as "unqualified impunity" because it can prevent people from obtaining monetary damages that could compensate them for their injuries.
      State reforms
      Since the murder of George Floyd, six states and New York City have limited or banned qualified immunity for police officers.

I know every parent says they're child is good but I know my son really is a good young man, he's a college graduate, goes to church most every Sunday, works full time and comes home and doesn't participate in any illegal activity whatsoever and if cops do this to him I'd be absolutely devasted.

      @trninfan 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      No one deserves this, even if he really was a "bad" person. And forgive me for saying so, but the way you describe your child indicates that you raised him in a middle class family. You're right that your boy is less likely to commit crime, but a lot of that comes from being afforded opportunities that "lifelong criminals" don't get. He does not experience temptations the way a poor person does - he'll never see an unattended cell phone and think "I could get a couple hundred dollars for that." Crime does not result solely from an individual's morals or personal responsibility

The History of this country -you would think we 'd strive for better but the Psyche of SLAVERY still resonates in the 21st century to hate one another. I notice it in how we treat one another in the most subtle of situations. Since this killer cop has testified that he is the one that caused death, they will urgue to drop the murder charges on the other officers which leaves them with simple assault and battery charges. If found guilty of those lesser crimes the sentences are not that long! In addition, if they get credit for time in jail before trial, they could all be walking home at sentensing!

But they're not going to prosecute that cop. Just gonna let him go out there and do it again. You seen that they both had the same tattoo on your Armon different arms? But they had the exact kind of tattoos. That means they joined the same club. You need to hold both these officers. Responsible, not one.
