I have this guitar in Sweetwater's exclusive Honeyburst finish. It's an absolute gem and the best Les Paul when it comes to value.

Ordered mine on the 18th Feb. Arrived 24th. Out of the box it’s gorgeous and plays well. Just need to do some fret polishing and new strings. Watching this video is just what I expected. 5 grand for the Gibson 750 for the Epiphone. Excellent comparison guys, and your right, this could be the best value Les Paul on the market. So, get it ordered now from Anderton’s because you won’t get it anywhere else.

I love the Captain’s playing!! I love Pete’s too, but the captain has got a certain touch and tone that is just so underrated I think. Pete is just the beast and when I grow up I want to have some of his style! Two wonderful players and a really great video and Epi is finally getting some love from Gibson now! They have some wonderful stuff out right now!! Keep up the great content!!

Captain has a simple gentleness and optimism to his playing that makes it really pop. Pete is a good example of a player whose enormous skill and technical development is getting in the way of feeling his music.

I have a Laz and the finish is where they saved money. There is no "burst" - at all - not even a hint of it. Single clor ad the satin does feel cheap, not "vintage". I still love the guitar and bought it as a player, not an investment. If you look at LP forums many people have polished the top and it does look better.

Some of the newer Epiphones have gotten so good lately. The Alex Lifeson model is incredible. I swapped out the Probuckers for a 57 Classic and a 496R, and it blows me away every time I plug it in.

I know that Sweetwater is carrying them, but they are currently out of stock in every finish. You guys probably are now too, after this video! I love my Les Paul Standard and I don't gig often, but if that changes this Epiphone LP would be perfect to take out. I'm sure that it won't feel the same, but they seem to have the look and sound nailed! Great vid!

I recently acquired a set of Seymour Duncan 59‘s, but the magnets were swapped out for A2s. The Les Paul is the standard 50s Epiphone, and I would be willing to put mine up against one of those. I have played the 59 that was done in collaboration with the custom shop, and it’s great. But I do believe these Seymour Duncan‘s have placed me level with that, if not slightly ahead. Plus I like the flame top better on mine. All in all, these are all phenomenal guitars for any money.

Don't forget that I'm 4,000 miles away and the signal has to travel through a satellite and TH-cams compressors and then up to a further satellite (for US distribution) and then down fibre optics to my house where it goes through a computer line to a WiFi etc.,
I thought the Epi was slightly thinner sounding, less complex sound than the 58. Less complex tends to reduce room filling sound even if it's louder (all else being the same). When I got my custom shop '61 Les Paul SG I was convinced it was the loudest guitar (or most powerful) I owned; it wasn't, the 81 Les Paul Custom (boat anchor) was actually louder but the '61 was just more beautiful, more room filling, yet it still had that "bark" when you wanted it to. Best, Pete.

The two additional ones are Honey Burst ( otherwise known as ‘Somebody. screwed up Burst) and Southern Fade Burst. There best colors are the Lemon Burst and the Southern Fade Burst then after about 20 applications of Carnauba wax. They look fantastic.

Tried 4 1959 Epiphones today, 3 sounded pretty good, almost great, and one sounded ABSOLUTELY great, but there are several reasons I didn't buy it. All had frets that needed polished, none of them were setup well and the one that sounded terrific was damaged from the factory (looked like dropped) or at the Guitar Shop and the nut needed re-cut for the E-string and a knob was missing. Unfortunately, that was the one that I would want to buy. The "So What" is I wouldn't if you plan on buying one I would play in person and factor in a setup, fret polish, and/or level. The tone/sound was consistent across 3 with 1 being a jewel on my first run at playing these. I'll keep hunting for one, but I'm not as excited as I was previously. I wish the frets were taller, and stainless, but that wouldn't be period correct.

What comes across is the care and attention to detail that the epiphone brand is getting. Lets face it it doesn't get more epic than Epiphone. Gibson and Epiphone aren't just brands they're icons. The fact the Les Paul is still hear and hasn't changed a design that's stood the test of time that's held in such a high regard of our idols its no surprise they are such coveted guitars.

Trust me, you are not missing out on anything with these Epiphone Les Paul guitars unless you want the p90 special or the double cut Jr. Or mini humbuckers one.
You don't have an Explorer do you !?
You should get one of those new Epiphone Explorer in korina or green !?
Trust me you can do way better for that $899 !
Hamer has a double cut flame top with tremolo and humbuckers for $549-$799 and it's going to have perfect fret work unlike most of the new, rushed out because of covid back order Epiphone Les Paul with bad high frets !
Just saying fun experience with the new Epiphone guitars . I had to send the Epiphone Les Paul TV special back and get a better one because of bad fret work. The second I got was better but the frets are still so so low I cant do but 1 tiny little level because there's no fret left.
The Epiphone prophecy guitars are way way better but $899 but that explorer has ebony fret board and is perfect and worth it !
The Jared James old glory I got was really good and decent fret work and tall frets but was so heavy 13+ pounds (7kilo) but we really good guitar just couldn't stand it 😜 on my back ! I also ordered a Les Paul Gold top traditional pro that was freaking amazing and perfect in every way but has a broken Headstock 😭 so sad because that guitar was perfect and cheaper than all the rest but Sam Ash didn't want to replace it with a new one because the one I got was on sale $289 and I was crushed they would not send me another guitar after buying 2 other Epiphone Les Paul guitars (TV yellow special and jjn old glory) so they refunded me and I got a Hamer copy Explorer and then The flying V and they are my 2 best guitars and blow the GIBSON Les Paul trad, SG standard cherry burst and all the other Gibson Jr. Guitars I've got !
You could find a Hamer Les Paul flame top double cut or Jr with p90's that put Gibson to shame !

Stepping up there game? They have just gone back to the old days when Epiphone was top quality and kicked Gibsons Ass...Les Paul tried to get Henry to return Epiphone to its glory days and Henry refused..now we have a new owner who has done what Les Paul always wanted for Epiphone..let's not forget that les paul invented his solid body guitar the Log in the Epiphone factory in 1941 Ten years before Gibson got involved and he never left Epiphone and he saved Epiphone..Les Paul was with Epiphone from 1940 until his death in 2009..

The flame on the Gibson is just so much nicer. If a veneer is to be used, it should be a veneer of a top like that one. Those fat flaming tops are gorgeous. The Epiphone is fantastic but those thin straight stripes on top are not nice at all. I’m shallow when it comes to the looks of a guitar. It has to look great for me to enjoy playing it.

With this guitar as the foundation, can Andertons influence Epiphone/Gibson to produce another exclusive run with slight ageing "relic" influenced by Slash AFD and PG/GM/KM "greeny" complete with mismatched nobs and Monty's Guitars Bethnal Green PAF humbuckers.

That seems to be their most common downfall from the ones I see around lately, bad fret work. Most are ok with a little break in or polishing but I've played A number of them with high frets from the factory or bad intonation because of the drilling into the top for the bridge. If they get their QC up a few notches they will really have something

I went to multiple guitar shops a few days ago looking for a great les paul. After a dozen gibsons i was feeling super let down and disillusioned. Then i grabbed one of these off the rack as a fluke, and loved it immediately. Fretwork was better than the gibsons, and while it is heavy, it sounds awesome. Bought it on the spot

Starting at around 12:55 it kind of starts to sound like "I'm Gonna Find Another You". Even when they don't try to, John Mayer still seems to be referenced in their videos and I love it. #GayerForMayer

Canada gets the normal Cherry and regular sunburst.................I ordered my aged sunburst from the US as I wanted this colour much more.

@eli that honey burst is horrible! Not only does the color not continue around the perimeter of the body
but it is Orange in color! FUGLY!🤮🤮🤮 that is why they cannot sell them! they still have 4 left of 6 they ordered almost two years ago now! 😂 I would love to have one re-finished with a genuine Gibson style Burst in ice tea or
Unburst along with aged nickle parts. that would be sweet!

The sound comparison is really subjective but the price difference definitely isn’t. Epi’s are great value - that guitar is a steal at the price. Great vid / playing as per usual. Cheers lads 👍👏👍

Spec is similar to my Tribute 1960s Plus in Vintage Sunburst. Gibson 57 humbuckers, hardcase, no scratchplate or weight relief and a couple of hundred quid cheaper. Even though more money still a good deal.

This model replaces the former 1960 Tribute Plus I own. The only true difference is there are classic 57 pickups but both are the high end of Epiphone with nice features

Everything about these 1959 Epiphones is fantastic accept for the tuners. The Tuners are a cheap Epiphone brand and do not hold tune well at all. They always slip. They're absolutely terrible. The guitar even goes out of tune in a few hours of not being played. I go to play it and every string is like a quarter of a step flat. Never experienced this on any guitar I've owned before.
For this reason I have to say that the best value Epiphone Les Paul is the Standard models and the Classic that come standard with high quality Grover tuners that are brilliant.

    • @ericliu8187

Thank you for again a nice video. Like watching you guys. Love the color on this guitar. How does this guitar compare to the Epiphone Slash and Joe Bonamassa Lazarus guitars? Which one is better? On pictures and video it's hard to tell, but the Slash Appetite color looks a bit more glossy and this one and the Lazarus are a bit more satin? Or are they actually quite close to each other color wise?

I have 3 USA Fenders and have just got a new Epiphone 335, it’s really good for the money for sure. £750 though……..you’d get some good Ibanez, Schecter (or other similar brands) guitars for that for sure.
