@Ashton Heston I sort of agree, I can absolutely see how certain players wouldn't be satisfied with it's stock pickups. But I'm actually fine with them. they are nice and warm and are high enough output to do whatever I need. And I have other guitars if I need something hotter. I recently finished a Kramer I was working on and it now has a Seymour Duncan JB in bridge 🙂🎸.
@Ashton Heston oh, also which Epiphone LP standard do you have. The older ones have Alnico classics which are decent but the newer ones have "probuckers". That's what mine has. They are epi versions of Gibson burstbuckers. They are only slightly different from the Alnico classics but they are slightly hotter in that they seem to have a mid boost in comparison to the older Alnico classics.

I’m having trouble deciding which guitar to choose between the 59 epy or the se single cut prs I appreciate these videos I’ll let you know which one I choose and why
Being a fan of the 'Jimmy Page' Tone, the 1st thing I'd do is put the pickups in the opposite slots .. Burstbucker 3 in the neck , Lower Wind Burstbucker 2 in the bridge. Using this UNCONVENTIONAL arrangement results in 3 much more diverse sounds, particularly in the middle position where you can get some fantastic "Hollow Chirp" from phase cancellation once you lower that neck Burstbucker 3
I kept the BB2 in the neck, with its unpotted A2 more faithful to the PAF he had and rates 8.1k so a little beefier also like the rewind SD did for him and put a T-top at 7.4k in the bridge just like he had - Paged!
I've had my Epi 59 LP for about 2 months Tone wise no complaints. Feel wise no complaints as I prefer a beefier 59 style neck profile and most guitar manufacturers tend to cater to a market demanding thinner profiles. Materials are top notch. Fit and finish, well....the fit was fine but there was some black paint bleed onto the binding up past the 12 fret. So you might say QC is still lower than par. The fretboard is dark though it is Laurel (looks like Rosewood) as I've seen lighter fretboards on the cherry burst models. Compared to my 2018 Traditional LP, the Epi has its own voice, different, not necessarily better or worse. The Gibson has a bit more midrange, the Epi more highs that sound great through the neck pick up. Great value for the price and definitely a gigging ax if you want to pamper your Gibson. The guitar sound great running through that Fillmore head.
Excellent excellent review. Well described, and well played! Really showing off the Les Paul's tonal capabilities without masking it with a bunch of distortion. Very inspired playing too : ) Keep up the good work work!
What a cool guitar store! Allows customers to choose their own top, together with individual pics on the website. I wish there's such a guitar store in my country.
I bought one of these in the cherry Sunburst version and found mine on close inspection has a noticeable seam between the headstock and neck. Does not affect the sound but did surprise me.
I bought one from a cometetor cos of t5he limited run colour... Its fantastic. Every bit as good as my other guitars, gibsons included. The pick-ups are immense and resonate forever!
Man I love this review! Seriously, why? Because you explain these things in a way that ignorant people like me can understand. Truly thank you! Earned a sub for this alone!
Spent the whole afternoon trying a59 and a couple other models like Customs and Slash signatures... IMO the 59 has the best Les Paul sound of all 3, it sounds more authentic and better built, you can even hear a little bit of that bite that Gibsons have, it might be the burstbuckers. The neck is chunky but kinda comfortable to play. The Custom's ebony neck feels faster to play tho but the guitar sounds more modern and dull, it's hard to explain, compared to the 59 the neck feels more plastic while the 59 feels like real wood idk.... the Custom doesn't have that bite that you hear on the 59s for crunch tones but if you play metal I think it would be a better guitar for that. The Slash signature is in between the 59 and the custom in terms of neck and it's pick ups have less output, I didn't really like them... there's nothing that stands out about them for me. I 'll go back to the store next week, I'm seriously thinking of getting the 59, the Burstbuckers and the hardcase are a huge deal and the guitar is really well built, the details on the back, the logo, everything..
Great demo, not over the top with effects and such, really highlights the sound of the guitar. How many guitars do you need? Just one more, these sound so good, with such great specs, I'm gonna grab one!
Awesome review and great guitar and playing. I tried the 59 Epiphone yesterday at guitar center. They have a used one in lemon burst for 699. I thought it played good and sounded good but compared to my old Gibson 50s standard there really is not much comparison. My Gibson feels and sounds so so much better. I honestly was hoping for more out of the Epiphone. I found the epi too be much more thinner sounding and feels like a toy compared to my old Gibson. In all fairness too the 59 my LP is a premium plus made in the original factory and has a Brazilian rosewood fretboard. So the indian laurel with fake pearl inlays just didnt feel right under my fingers in comparison. And like i said for sone reasons in my humble opinion epiphones dont sound near a full or big as Gibson. I feel its due too the overall quality of materials and thats something you pay for right. If I didnt have a Gibson I would probably rock one of these thougn still. Epiphone should have used burstbucker 1 and 2 imo. Also i have owned three gibson studios and a tribute that I paid 500 dollars for each on the used market and honesty every one of those ate this guitars lunch aswell. I hope this comment helps a fellow player. Keep on rockin! 🤘
I own 3. Two finishes shown in video plus southern fade. I also have a Gibson 1959 conversion. These Epi’s are almost equal in tone. One positive difference is the Epi’s produce a slightly more ‘woody’ tone like real ‘59s! I should mention that Epiphone uses D’Addario NYXT STRINGS ON THESE. they’re great strings- feel and tone- which may contribute to the woody tone. FYI: My comparison was performed using 2 Marshall amp types and also using a video on a real vintage 1959 LP from songbirds museum going thru the same Marshall amp. It seems to me that one thing that can never b equal is, as Joe Walsh alluded to regarding music and players, the ‘Mo-Jo’ is not there...But after near 60 years of playing- I am also old...and genuine mojo cost$$$!
You have 3!!😂🤦♂️ I laugh because I have one but I want to buy another I love this guitar so much. But I can’t see the point. Help me understand how you justified 2 let alone 3 so I can feel comfortable buying another. Unfortunately we don’t have the southern fade in Australia which looks awesome btw. I’ve got the Aged. I didn’t love the finish when I bought it but I (get ready for this....) put it in the sun for a couple of hours. It took that sheen off and now it looks amazing.
Hi David… interested in this ‘sun’ technique… I’m thinking of getting one of these, but wasn’t too fussed on the sheen finish… u just put the whole guitar in the sun?
@@johnnyloholtthomsen6590 yes, but the veneer follows the mahogany top. In any case, looks pretty good 😌 especially for the money. Just missing the gloss for those that want it

Great video and this guitar is very interesting! Compared to the Gibson one it’s not ridiculous at all! Personnally I have a 1960 Tribute Plus which was a premium Epiphone too and I would be interesting to have comparison between those both guitars!
I'd highly recommend this for anyone wanting a sweet Les Paul. I'd totally get one if I didn't have too many guitars already lol. Epiphones have been great for decades and now they're better than ever. The updated headstock is much nicer! Amazing tone there!! Very growly woody classic rock! 🤘
Great value, great guitar, great review...however, I sent one back due to the lack of flame, like almost none...I had an older Epi Les Paul that def had AAA flame...I have yet to see this model where the flame really pops out...
@@benallmark9671 I ended up getting a Gibson 60s Les Paul in unburst last December...I have a 2020 Epi Les Paul Custom in alpine white that I love, the ebony fretboard is great. I'm not too keen on the finishes of them either but they are great guitars.
Check out some of the forums online for this model. There's actually quite a few out there that are in my opinion, too flamey. When they're super tiger stripey, it just makes me think of bad '80s hair metal! I prefer the worm weave tops and plain tops with cross grain. It's all in the eye of the beholder I guess? I actually have a returned cherry one that's great. I've not found anything wrong with it, other than being slightly on the heavy side, 9lbs. 5oz. and the top isn't "special". But for $600 bucks I'm very happy with it. Put it next to my Southern Fade from AMS and its lame comparitively. The balance and tone is drastically different also. Cherry ones bright and crisp, the southern fade is warm and so crunchy its evil!
My SF has very straight even stripes. The colors on it, and my cherry one, are better than many, so I'm cool. The 3 other cherries I've had were clowny. This one's dark as I've seen. I guess sometimes we have to compromise when these have only recently become more available. I had the first one last Sept. Sent it back for bad fret ends, short. Second one was an atrocity, don't even wanna elaborate. The one I settled on was a return, I believe for just being a plain top? I'm very happy with both and probably won't part with either for many years.
Guitar sounds killer. Better than many Gibsons I've heard. Intonation sounds good, seems to stay in tune. A man could pump out some Black Crowes with that baby!
I love mine and it's neither one of these finishes! I got it because it had this lesser known finish, called Southern Burst. It looks like something in between these two, the Dark Burst, and the Cherry. It's one of the best Epi's I've ever had. The Southern Burst is like the Dark Burst, but with a brown border instead of the black.
I picked one of these off the wall at GC. I played it through a 5150. I was absolutely blown away. Epiphone absolutely killed it with this thing. Everything is perfect. That fat neck was awesome, and the sound was sweet and pure rock and roll. Excellent instrument. I will own one. Nice review man. Sounds damn good.
Has Epi conquered the tuning issues that plauge most, if not all Gibsons? I'm not sure, I want to support Gibson. Not a fan of Ignaci, or the CEO, (can't remember his initials, don't care enough to Google it 😁) and their bullying ways... Really enjoy this channel, and your playing is phenomenal. Cheers 🍻
@@joeltoste938 On the contrary, I think the poly gloss finishes on Epiphones makes them look cheap in comparison to the gibson nitro finish. The aged look gives it a vintage appearance like its been around since '59, love it and indeed I have one. Best guitar I have ever owned and I have had two Gibsons.
I own this guitar. And yesterday I went to GC and played a Gibson LPS 60's which is essentially what a 59 is, but slimmer neck and different knobs and tuners etc... While I liked the top and finish on the Gibson, the playability and tone on the Epiphone in my case are better. And at a $2k difference in price. The Epiphone is hands down better. That said, I have an old Epiphone that I paid $299 for like 12 years ago that plays better than both. Looks great too. Maybe that Gibson was just a dog?
The Gibson 60s Standard has 61R/T pickups which are wax potted short A5 mags wound in the high 7ohms. They will sound best on really loud amps. The Burstbuckers are overwound A2 mags in the low 8ohms and unpotted and will sound better on quieter amps, so it's not surprising it sounded better in a music store unless you got to really crank up a stack - because those Burstbuckers would be squealing.
@@SonicProvocateur the stock burst buckers that come with the guitars are actually all wax potted. You won’t get an unpotted burstbucker unless you buy the pickup separately by itself! At least on the standards it’s that way. I’m sure some custom shop model comes with unpotted, but that’s how it is otherwise :)
I got my hands on one of these about a month ago at Guitar Center in town. I have had an Epi Standard 50s LP for several months now, and I wanted to see if there was a big difference. Actually, I have to say, no. The biggest difference were the pickups, which I replaced last week with a set of PAFs by a small builder in Ohio. Probably about equal now. The feel in my hand was practically identical, but for me, the flame top on mine and the finish just looks classier. I thought the '59's finish looked a bit cheesy, to be honest. And mine has a flame top that is practically alive. The flame disappears at certain angles.
@@redsailsjs I didn’t have mine with me, but after several months, I know the neck shape and feel well. If there’s a difference, it was virtually undetectable in my hand.

I just got one ! Can't wait to get it,
For gear demos, Peach Guitars is the only place to go. Keep up the great reviews!
Sounds awesome through that Mesa! Your playing is superb!! Nice showcase.
They're legit dudes! I have two of them. Aged Dark Burst & Aged Dark Cherry Burst!
I have aged southern burst. gorgeous! And it comes with a beautiful brown hard shell case with a pink interior.
Killer guitar especially for the money! Also your playing is seriously top notch! You deserve to be heard on a large stage
Yes 1000 Times more Talented Than Popular Crap on Radio and Famous just one name ....Machine Gun Kelly 😄😄This guy need a Classic Rock Band and him on the Spot
Man that tone at 7:50. I’ve got one but I’ve got figure how he got that tone!
Man, what song was that riff from in the intro?? Player beautifully
Great Epiphone for the money with a hardshell case and actual Gibson p/ups. I've tried it out and was very impressed. Good reviews on the guitars, mate
Iv owed a few gibsons and they have always been a let down. Epiphone all the way for me and this is stunning.
Will this be a good companion for my 1960 tribute plus Les Paul epiphone?
What a cool guitar store! Allows customers to choose their own top, together with individual pics on the website. I wish there's such a guitar store in my country.
Thanks David, we try our best! We ship worldwide too, if you're ever on the lookout for something, drop us an email to sales@peachguitars.com
@@PeachGuitars w00t! The poison just got real!
I have this '59 in dark burst & it is awesome!!
Love the dark satin finish on the one being played, sounds nice too.
Sounds great! This guitars have their own personality!
Fantastic sound and, Fantastic chops!
I preordered my epiphone les paul standard 60s in a ice tea finish and put Gibson vintage reissue 10/46 gauge strings on it.
Man I love this review! Seriously, why? Because you explain these things in a way that ignorant people like me can understand. Truly thank you! Earned a sub for this alone!
Got the lemon burst....she's amazing!
Jack sure has all the different chord voicings down. He transposes on the fly cleanly, efficiently and effortless. Very good player, Jack.
I have the '59 & i've got to say it plays way above my pay grade. Makes some really serious sounds.
Great video And great Guitar playing..
Hello Jack..
I use epiphone Lp too...I think it best guitar in affordable price..and epiphone is brother from gibson 😁🤘
Sounds Great Jack! Can you Please tell us the amp used for the demo?
Thanks Jason - this was the Mesa Fillmore 25.
@@PeachGuitars
I appreciate your answering that question. The sound you are getting here is exactly what I want.
Great guitars sound lovely and warm like a Les Paul should do .Get better with age to ,thinner finish .fabulous electrics .
Really nice playing man
Great demo, not over the top with effects and such, really highlights the sound of the guitar. How many guitars do you need? Just one more, these sound so good, with such great specs, I'm gonna grab one!
Cant beat a 78 GLP custom, but looks like the pickups in the Epiphones are finally getting better.
This guitar comes with Gibson pickups.
He looks like Longshanks’ nephew form ‘Braveheart’
What amp / pedal setup are they using, anybody know? Sounds a peach !!
Sounds great I purchased one here in the states
The top carve looks closer to a 50’s Les Paul than even some of the custom shop Gibsons
Maybe because epi use photo film clad veneer
@@johnnyloholtthomsen6590 yes, but the veneer follows the mahogany top. In any case, looks pretty good 😌 especially for the money. Just missing the gloss for those that want it
@@arisgazetas2920 I have had one for a year or so and love it. The only thing I didn't like was the matte top, I quickly polished the top with some light compound and I am 100% happy with the guitar now.
What a player. Seriously, this boy has it! Amazing 👏
Great video and this guitar is very interesting! Compared to the Gibson one it’s not ridiculous at all! Personnally I have a 1960 Tribute Plus which was a premium Epiphone too and I would be interesting to have comparison between those both guitars!
I have both of those also & you can't compare them because they both have the same electronics inside.
Nice sound and playing
This was an good review. Especially that you mentioned the weight.
I've never played a LP, how would these necks feel compared to a standard strat (thickness)?
Chunky compared to a strat. If you have larger hands, you'll probably like it.
Those clean leads sound so nice
Awesome video! Do these come Left handed? Love the 59 Burst's!! Especially when they turn to that lemon or honey burst!
Great value, great guitar, great review...however, I sent one back due to the lack of flame, like almost none...I had an older Epi Les Paul that def had AAA flame...I have yet to see this model where the flame really pops out...
Are they gonna send ya another one or you done ?
@@andrewbecker3700 cool to hear there are heavily flamed ones out there...generally I like mine very flamed except for the super straight flame...
I'm very happy with both and probably won't part with either for many years.
dont have the dough for one yet...im savin lol...I do own and play an epi plustop pro however...its not goin anywhere...I love it !
I have one of those as well, gonna sell it and put the money towards one of these 59 limited series.
Please make a review for Gibson Les Paul Tribute.
I'd love to hear them side by side with the Epi '59 standard! They're not too far from each other price wise.
A beautiful guitar played really well-a great combo.
Guitar sounds killer. Better than many Gibsons I've heard. Intonation sounds good, seems to stay in tune. A man could pump out some Black Crowes with that baby!
Beautiful! What amp are you going through? Any pedals?
This guitar is much better value than the 2024 version of the epiphone 59 with the gibson headstock...
Awesome demo!! What amp and cab did you use for this? Dr Z,Two Rock,Mesa?
Amp and cabinet are MESA boogie. You can see it on their recent Murphy lab Lespaul videos. Same as what you can see here on Jack’s right.
Cheers 🍻
Are you using a gain or overdrive pedal, or are you going straight into the amp?
I'd say it's as fine as the gibson when playing, feels so good.
Thanks, AWESOME REVIEW
Is the intro 0:09 at time from an actual song? Sounds cool!
I believe in a thing called love - kind of...
@@udr3005 Thankyou!
Hard to beat for the money. Great value. I have the Honey Burst model which was an exclusive run. 👍🏻🎸🖖🏻
Really wish they made left handed versions of these! I'd have one in an instant. Great playing and demo as always.
Sounds really good (under your fingers ;-) ) I don't much like the dull, satin finish.
I agree about not liking the dull, satin looking finish though. Looks cheap.
@@joeltoste938 I polished mine (just the top) in 10 minutes and it changed the whole vibe of the guitar. I love it now.
That has the best tone I've ever stinking heard of!
Every guitar this dude plays, makes me wanna buy it lol. Wicked tones outa those burst burstbuckers ! 🤘🏻🙌🔥
Question: what amp/modeler and or pedals did you use for the video? It’s a great match for this guitar. :)
Good review. I was wondering are the necks the same?
@@redsailsjs I didn’t have mine with me, but after several months, I know the neck shape and feel well. If there’s a difference, it was virtually undetectable in my hand.
First class Guitar 👍
