  • This is the Ciaccona movement of Bach's D minor Partita No. 2 for solo violin. I have had so much fun learning this beautiful, expressive piece over the summer! The mandolin I am playing is a Mazzaccara Lucia. This was recorded on September 1, 2021
I have a more recent recording of the Ciaccona here:

I've stumbled through this sight-reading on mandolin a few times over the years, and during such times I've often wondered: "But what would this sound like if someone played it well?"
Now I know. Good job, mandolinist.

Always amazes me to see how many instruments the Chaconne has been transcribed to. Its not an easy piece to play on any of them either. Well done at such a young age. You have promising future ahead.

Fantastic. The more I hear Bach on these neapolitan bowl-back mandolins the more I'm starting to like them. I still side with only F-style when the chips are down. I'm just so accustomed to that sound, resonance, and attack, but these bowl-backs are so unique with such a distinct unmistakable midrange with just a slight transient low-end.
    Well played too, well played.

@@mandolinprincess3382 Indeed. And your playing too, it's remarkable and shows your discipline of practice. Your picking and fingering sound very accurate. Attack, dynamics, all very good. You really play Bach well.
When practicing a Bach piece to accomplish the expression and ornamentation without making it sound "mechanical" it's really NOT easy! ESPECIALLY on a mandolin.

Yea :) but we string players can understand much more, somehow. while she herself mentioned it as a fun !!! as in description written: "I have had so much fun learning this beautiful, expressive piece over the summer"
Millions of the same age girls around the globe 🌐have a wish like "I wish I was able to play such a divine instrument or piece ..." of course almost all of them are capable or potentially capable for it, if and only if they consistently, regularly and diligently spend their time hard practicing on schedule, alone in the corner of the room, when other teenage girls are having fun with their friends!
So, well done girl, best warm wishes by a guitarist from Tehran, Iran.

I played violin for 8 years first, but had to switch to mandolin due to a bone disorder with my collarbone. I have been studying mandolin for about 4 years since about age 11. At the beginning, my hands were a little too small for a regular-scale mandolin, and I had a violin scale model from the Big Muddy Mandolin Company. My hands got bigger, and later it was comfortable for me to play a normal-sized mandolin. In my opinion, someone older Elementary School can start with mandolin (it depends on the size of the hands), but with someone younger, a small violin might work better (while teaching the same fingering and intervals).
