- The short bikepacking overnighter, this time with a little challenge.
There’s no denying, I love the short, local overnighters, regardless whether you call them S24Os (sub-24 hour Overnighter), as Grant Petersen from Rivendell Bicycle Works, or microadventures, as round the world bicycle adventurer Alastair Humphreys call them. Short enough to squeeze in between weekdays, long enough to give you that much needed pause from whatever your everyday may look like. A brief moment to remind yourselves about what really matters in life. Enjoy them alone, or with a handful of friends. Ride off in the evening and be back in time for work or school or whatever may be waiting for you in the morning, your shoulders a little less tense than when you rode off the evening before. And if you’re not the most experienced bikepacker out there, these short trips are the perfect opportunity to try out gear and new skills.
Filmed with Fujifilm XT3, the Fujifilm XC 15-45mm f/3.5-5.6 OIS PZ and the Fujifilm XF35 f1.4. Audio from Røde VideoMic NTG. Edited in Lumafusion.

I absolutely love the Carlsberg beer can stove 04:57 🥳
If you search for «Tom Allen» and «Beer Can Stove», you can find links to make one for yourself if you’re interested 😃
Loved this! Makes me want to give this challenge a go!
Glad you liked it, thanks! 😊🙏
Fun video. Loved the Carlsburg alcohol stove! Cheers from Chicago 🍻
Glad you liked the movie! That beer can stove is more precious to me than my expensive kerosene stove 😄
I love the ultralight stove offset by the giant air pump. From your uber cool rack box, Surly bike (I think) to your red buffalo plaid camp shirt you are a hipsters wet dream. Very cool outing!! Sincerely love yoir setup.
“The last of the hipsters still roaming the Norwegian backwoods, a threatened species rarely seen nowadays” 😄 Glad you liked the setup, and you’re absolutely right, my setup is a bit of a paradox 😄
@@BackwoodsBikepacking privileged to have seen the rare species. Truly love your setup and may seek a similar bike rig.
Thanks for the kind words. It’s a Surly Disc Trucker, by the way, but you may already have figured that out 😊
Wow! I‘m a big proponent of random challenges. Even better if they include an overnighter. I love the chilled atmosphere in your videos.
Happy to hear you enjoyed the movies, thanks for commenting! 😊🙏🏻
as I was watching you set up camp and you brought out the mattress pump, I had to stop and bust out a huge laughter...holy crap , you brought that big ass pump with you...talk about roughing it....love all your videos and I am jealous of all the great places you have been with the girls and Banjo...it is too hot right now in Florida to backpack like that and the mosquitoes will eat you alive but as soon as fall comes I am out there. Cheers and thanks for the huge laugh.
Happy to hear the video made you laugh 😄 That pump is obviously a bit awkward to carry along, but you gotta use what you got, I suppose 😄
New favorite channel. Good work! Keep the videos rolling.
Wow, thanks, glad to hear that! 😊🙏
Such a great film and wonderful editing. You really captured the essence of a simple overnighter. You’ve inspired me to do more trips like this, simple fun is the best
Thanks for the kind words, glad to hear that you enjoyed the movie! 😊🙏 Happy wheels!
Great vid as usual but instant coffee. Cant forgive for that. Get yourself an Aeropress and decent coffee. Such lovely locations and you time deserve it. Best wishes
Ha-ha, thanks! 😊🙏🏻 You should have seen me a couple of weeks back when I had forgotten the spread for my bread and had to eat dry bread with nothing on it 😄 At least I had real coffee on that trip 😄
so cool! great reminder to us all to get out and enjoy the world around us no matter how much free time we have! Great music too!
Happy to hear you enjoyed the movie, Jamie, thanks for the feedback! 😊🙏
I really enjoyed this, thanks for sharing
Happy to hear you enjoyed it, thanks for commenting! 😊🙏🚲
Nice trip and beautiful video
Thanks, Camilla, glad you liked the movie! 😊🙏
Another awesome video 👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks for the kind words! 😊🙏
Agree, the carradice is great. I use it strapped to the Brooks saddle and another great bag called the Fabio's Chest large strapped to the handlebars. "The chest is the best." S24O is amazing, Nordmarka is perfect for that!
Ronnie’s Fabios Chest look like a great option 😊👍
Nice - loved the mission and bike. I heard a little Liverpudlian in your voice... YNWA. Subscribed!
Thanks a lot, really appreciated! 😊🙏 My wife has her roots partly in Hull and partly in Hobart, Taz, so I guess my accent is heavily influenced by that (and the fact that I’m half Norwegian and half Danish). Not sure what she will think if I have a hint of Liverpool accent 😄👍
@@BackwoodsBikepacking great share!!! Keep doing what you're doing mate
Great vid , great challenge chilled me out lol
Glad you liked it, thanks for commenting!😄👍
Very nicely done.
Kind regards from NE Thailand.

Thanks for your comment and the sub, much appreciated! 😊🙏 Happy riding! 🚲
Nice bike, great bag, love activities 👊🔥
Thanks, glad you liked it! 😊🙏🏻🚲
Charming little adventure for sure!
Glad you liked it! 😊🙏
Sub-24hr bike packing trips sounds like such a simple and great idea 👍👍🚴 now just waiting for a bit warmer weather 🤣🌞
Just a quick question on the camera gear, do you also bring a tripod for 📸?
Wow , great shots good work keep it up!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the movie, I’ll try to keep it up 😊
Beautiful film as always 👌🏼
Thanks for the kind words, really appreciated! 😊🙏
Makes instant coffee, drinks it, enjoys it then says “don’t judge me” ha ha, love it 🤣
Just to put the record straight, I do have a Chemex at home 😅
A few time stamps would be nice as a reference to your challenge. When you arrived at camp, went to sleep, etc.
My memory card corrupted at the end of my tour, but recovered data with CHKDSK.
You’re right, time stamps was my intention originally, that is, in the movie itself, but I somehow forgot all about it when the editing portion of the challenge went west 😄 The missing files turned out to still be present on the memory cards, it was simply the iPad Files app that didn’t work as intended. I’ll look into CHKDSK in case I might need it down the road, thanks for the tip 😊
Thank you for sharing and inspiring us with with journey's and your philosophy on bike travel, we were sewn from the same cloth . I also remember the bicycle as being my true source of freedom as a young boy.
Is your front bag a camper long flap ? .
Please keep what your doing greatly appreciated Ken
Thanks for your kind words, Kenneth! The front bag is indeed a Carradice Long Flap Camper. I love those bags 😄👍
Also that can stove is not Norwegian beer but Danish, I am calling your national department of interior and turning you in...you got to get you a native can of Norwegian Pibo.😁
Ha-ha, before you turn me in, I’d like to stress the fact that I’m half Danish. The Carlsberg can should probably have been replaced by something more cool, but it’s been so faithful I haven’t had the heart to ditch it for another 😄
Awesome.
Thanks! 😊🙏
Next time, to add some more challenge , you must also catch a fine Trout on the dry fly and release it safely .. although well done , this is what I do all the time, I'm very lucky where I live.
You must be reading my mind 😄 I actually have a video involving a poor trout or two planned. Glad you enjoyed the movie! 😊🙏Happy riding!

What are those boots? They're really cool.
Thanks, It’s the Duckfeet Faaborg. You can get them in nicer colours than mine 😄
I love an S24O but have never filmed one. Great film despite losing half of your footage! What do you use to edit?
Thanks! I’m in a process to change workflow from desktop to iPad, so this film and thumbnail was made exclusively on the iPad using LumaFusion, Lightroom and Affinity Photo. Pretty happy with how the process worked. I used to use Final Cut Pro until recently.
@@BackwoodsBikepacking thanks I’m wanting to make the same transition to iPad or iPhone editing now I’m shooting almost exclusively on iPhone 13 Pro Max. I might give Lumafusion a try. I’ve been a long term Adobe user but it’s getting increasingly bloated, buggy and clunky to use.
Sounds a bit like me. I wanted to simplify things a little and rather put more energy into the creative part. Didn’t hurt to develop a mobile workflow. Now that LumaFusion also has scopes, I really can’t ask for much more.
No need to make it any harder than it really is :-)
It was pretty hard cycling up the hills, though. Just saying 😉
what software are you using on your ipad?
I’m editing movies in LumaFusion, photos with Lightroom, graphics with Affinity photo. I’m pretty new to working like this on the iPad. This is actually the first video I’ve made where everything was done on the iPad. It’s taken a while to get there, but I’m pretty happy with the process now.
ID on the handlebar bag?
It’s the Carradice Long Flap Camper. Highly recommended!
Music, in case anyone wondered: th-cam.com/video/Ro6aWnho2EE/w-d-xo.html
Great song! I was in hurry when I uploaded and forgot to highlight the music used in the movie. Thanks for sharing!
How do you like your duck feet shoes?
The soles are rather hard natural rubber, so I have a wooly inner sole in them. The pattern of the rubber soles are also rather slick, so they’re not your best bet in muddy conditions. Other than that, I’m pretty happy with them. The rather hard soles are actually pretty nice for bikepacking in my opinion 😊
