    I have used this knot for a few months and i can tell you that it is amazing!! Stronger than the palomar and easy to do. Love it. Caught a nice 5 pound this past weekend on straight 40 pound braid tied to a 110 size wopper plopper using this knot.

      This knot is known as the Double Grinner ( a Grinner knot is a Uni knot) in the UK, where every fresh water fisherman knows it. It's a standard knot.
      It's been the goto knot for terminals for prolly a 100 years.
      Watch any of Matthew Collins' or the other Carp fishermen's Hair rig videos and you'll see them tie the Grinner Knot (Uni Knot) and Double Grinner for braid(braid has a tendency to slip and undo the standard Blood Knot)
      And since Carp fishing is a sport in the rest of the world, this knot is trusted.

      It always seems there are several names for any given knot - I come across them often. This particular name came from the man who was credited as the inventor after he submitted it in the “Knot Wars” competition about 14 years ago. In reality, this knot and all other knots could date back to ancient Sumeria for all we know 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Much better than Berkley Braid if you fish with braid or mono. Since I fish with mono, it's a good thing there's a stronger knot than Berkley Braid that isn't a pain in the ass to tie. Pretty sure I won't lose lures anymore. Thank you very much for this video.

      Berkley braid knot is super strong but I’ll agree it’s a pain the ass with mono. This knot here is also a pain with mono sometimes, especially as the line gets stronger/stiffer

    Thanks for the great video. I've been using the palamore knot for many years but will try this knot this season. My most common breakoff reason is from a northern cutting my braid.

    • @nextlevelangling
      @nextlevelangling  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That’s the worst. I fish topwater for pike and around pike often, and I’ll typically tie on a 6 inch 30 lb fluoro or mono leader. It can affect the actions of smaller lures, but with bigger whopper ploppers (110+) and frogs, works out fine and won’t break off on the first pike. Pain in the ass to change out the leader but better than getting robbed by those toothy SOB’s

      @dtffishingmi so your saying That the florocarbon has better abrasion resistance than braid?

    • @nextlevelangling
      @nextlevelangling  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@michaelbeckman1794 yes fluoro has the higher abrasion resistance, but it also sinks whereas braided line floats. That’s why I typically only use a 6 inch fluoro leader - any more than that would affect the action of the lure or make it sink

      OK so what's the best knot for braid to floro leader? How does the nail knot, floro to braid work as far as strength? I usually use it when I add new line to the spool about 50- 75' from the beginning of the spool. Never really gets a load on the knot that far down.

    • @nextlevelangling

    I have a heck of a time tying this knot in mono/flouro because of the memory in the line and the dexterity required. Would you show how you manage it?

    • @nextlevelangling
      @nextlevelangling  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s not just you - it’s tougher with mono/fluoro - though I wouldn’t recommend it for fluorocarbon as it did not test as well in strength against other (easier to tie) knots in that line category. With lighter mono, try applying pressure from below against the lines going through the eye with your index finger and thumb on your non dominant hand as you perform the wraps and cinch. This will help to keep those lines through the eye in the vertical position.
      If you’re using heavier monofilament (>12lb) - the knot becomes less practical. In those cases I typically will use the double San Diego Jam, or for super heavy mono - the standard San Diego Jam 👍

    Double Uni I have tested , and everytime it is the only 100% knot out there!
    If your testing 30lb braid that line won't snap until about 36lbs of force..
    20lb braid, it snapped at 28lbs of force.
    60lb braid is where it blew my away, it didn't break until it had 77lbs of force..
    Those numbers are averages on 5 pulls each, per knot.

    What about Spiderwire/Dyneema? I've used this line for years and breaks occasionally with the Trilene and Palomar Knot. I usually Catfish on bottom. I'll try this knot and see how things go for me. Thank you.

    • @nextlevelangling
      @nextlevelangling  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      For catfishing, I don't think Spiderwire is too bad a choice. It's cheap, strong, and abrasion resistant. If you were going to be casting lures tho, I'd never use it. It's stiff and coarse, and doesn't cast well. Without exaggeration, my casting distance went up about 40 percent when I switched to Daiwa J-Braid x8 from a brand similar in composition to Spidewire. To get the best of both words - casting distance/abrasion resistance - very tough to beat Daiwa J-Braid Grand. In my opinion, best braid on the market.

      After the second wrap, you start to exceed the width of the uni knot with any additional wraps, and the wraps fall to the side, since they are not tucked underneath the knot. If the extra wrap IS under the uni knot, then it’s likely crossed over another wrap.
