Almost EXACTLY how I tie a double pitzen. You double the line from the start thru the eye instead of going thru twice is the only difference. It works extremely well on all line types
Killer knot. Fished this knot for over 20 years on my faster "reaction" baits or on my trolling baits. Other knots that are equally strong, but a bit more finicky to tie are the Erwin Knot and the Spangler Knot. Both have a much smaller knot profile.
Double pitzen doesn’t go through the loop at the bottom. That’s more like the San Diego jam, only doubled up on the line. That’s why I said it’s like a mixture of the two.
Thanks Carl!!! That's the knot I start using about a year ago. Great knot thanks for sharing!!!! Congrats on making it to the Classic and continuing your success!! Stay Safe & God Bless!!!
I currently use the double pitzen and it has woked very well but I'm always open to using a better knot. There's only 1 more step to take from the double pitzen to the Improved SD jam knot so it's not going to take much longer or be any more difficult to tie.
I've been tie almost the same knot with floro also. Only thing I was missing was, I wasn't treading though the bottom loop. I did my wraps downward then went up through top double loops. I haven't had any issues but I will b giving this a try for sure
@@barnes80 I wasn't sure what it was called? It definitely does tighten down way either not going back through other loop. It's has served me well on floro. I still re-tie alot , after a big fish or multiple small one. Prefer not to cast off my baits if I can help it ...
@@maxcole3930 yea, you are definitely tying a pitzen knot and if you are doubling it back through the eye like in this video then it's the double pitzen. I use it all the time and have no problems. Both knots are awesome though.
Have tried time and again, works very well with a large lure, but any video or suggestions as how to tie a single hook such as a 1/0 or similar in size. Without the weight, bulk of the lure very difficult to do.
It's also known as a listen. See Base has Tyler Berger uses it to tie on lures and the improved clinch for hooks. He uses the Palomar on braid. Good instruction though Carl!
Hey mate great video and a awesome knot wont be needing 20lb for my tiny little sydney bass but im going to start using this 1! What leader knot do u use for fluorocarbon? Cheers
Just seen this, coming from the UK it always amuses me the number of different names you Americans have for traditional knots (no offence intended), every video calls this knot by another name. Over here it has always been called a tucked blood knot and has been in use since the dawn of time! I've been using it for over 70 years. For small hooks with little eyes you can't double the line so you have to tie it with only one strand. Liked the video.
I tie the double pitzen on fluoro. Similar knot. I’ve always worried that the line would burn in the San Diego jam. Thanks for not saying the Palomar. I hate that knot.
So, it's almost the same as the one I tie. Which I don't think has a name. But you double up, wrap up the main line and then down through the bottom loop and around your bait like a Palomar. It's the strongest knot I've come across. Only one tag end when done. So one third the chance of slipping. At least in my mind.
What's the difference from the Double Pitzen?..Double the line, go thru, wrap around 3 to 4 times, go thru the loop at the top u created, pull tight and cut the 3 tag ends. Great flouro knot!
Sorry but couldn't see what was going on. You need to use a colored cord with a black background. For me anyway it was too confusing and could't see the line passes.
You should make an actual step by step guide so it's very clear what is being done. I personally use a Jimmy Houston Knot on all my lines, not just flouro.
You've could finish it in a Palomar knot with extra turns. I tie the knot with no turns (Palomar) and i've managed to land a 6 foot european catfish with it. One of the best knots out there, and very fast to tie on the water.
I wouldn't use this knot if I am using fluorocarbon as a leader. After 2 lures you have to cut and tie another leader on. There is a lot line being wasted doing this knot.
I thought the whole point to lubricate the knot was to reduce heat created by friction when synching the knot down? Won't the lack of lubrication create a weaker knot?
We call this the Double San Diego Jam, great knot.
👍
@CarlJocumsen I don't think people are watching this video thoroughly as you mentioned the various names of the knot at the end
@spankyLou umm, heard what he said
I agree. A double San Diego jam.
Interesting. I've not seen it where you put it through the bottom loop first before the top loop.
Almost EXACTLY how I tie a double pitzen. You double the line from the start thru the eye instead of going thru twice is the only difference. It works extremely well on all line types
I am pretty sure that the knot shown is actually the double pitzen. Starting it this way makes it easier if the line is heavy or the eye is small.
@@kylem1819 The double pitzen does not go through the opening at the base first like the sdj
A doubled and modified 16-20 knot, for the fly fishing folks watching. Very good video. Thanks.
Killer knot. Fished this knot for over 20 years on my faster "reaction" baits or on my trolling baits. Other knots that are equally strong, but a bit more finicky to tie are the Erwin Knot and the Spangler Knot. Both have a much smaller knot profile.
Great video, I will have to try this knot, Thank you
That's called a "San Diego Jam Knot". Very strong. Very nice!
It would be if it was a single line. He doubled the line so it is double..... or "improved". Either are a great knot!
@@jamescooper2618 OK, I'm not gonna split knots with ya, but I'll fish with ya! Thanks for the info.
It seems like this is variation between a San Diego jam and double pitzen knot. I’ll have to give it a try
Isn't it just the double pitzen
Double pitzen doesn’t go through the loop at the bottom. That’s more like the San Diego jam, only doubled up on the line. That’s why I said it’s like a mixture of the two.

Perfectly explained and demonstrated. Thanks Carl👍
Appreciate it mate glad you liked it!
Carl has a TH-cam! Didn’t know but glad I found it!
I currently use the double pitzen and it has woked very well but I'm always open to using a better knot. There's only 1 more step to take from the double pitzen to the Improved SD jam knot so it's not going to take much longer or be any more difficult to tie.
Nicely done video. Will give the knot a go next trip out.
You'll like it mate! 👍
It's the San Diego jam knot. I just learned it recently, and it's my go to now.
I've been tie almost the same knot with floro also. Only thing I was missing was, I wasn't treading though the bottom loop. I did my wraps downward then went up through top double loops. I haven't had any issues but I will b giving this a try for sure
It cinches easier doing it your way. I do it your way most of the time. I think it's called a pitzen knot.
@@barnes80 I wasn't sure what it was called? It definitely does tighten down way either not going back through other loop. It's has served me well on floro. I still re-tie alot , after a big fish or multiple small one. Prefer not to cast off my baits if I can help it ...

Love watching you on the elites
Appreciate it mate! 👊
Use this for some Cod and Barra here in oz mate!! Awesome little clip.
Carl what are those things in your spools of line that keep it in place?!?!
The only knot I tie as well, Doubled SDJ! Love it 💪
I use this also, its just as strong with a single line too. I double it up on larger cranks and jigs.
Carl congrats on qualifying for the classic keep grinding 💪🏽 Just curious, what are those line guides you’re using on your spools?
Double San Diego jam knot. Tried and true knot.
There is a reason the San Diego jam knot is used by the entire long range fleet.
Thanks for sharing nice and easy 👍
💪
great knot! i have just started tieing the G-man double shindo knot. Much easier and seems to be just as strong.
Thanks excellent video, when you change out the willow blade on the Bassman TW spinnerbaits to a mag willow what no do you use ?
Is this not like the double Pitzen but you have put it after wraping also trough the line near the hook and also trough the upper loop?
Will that knot also work for salt water inshore and offshore fishing???
Have tried time and again, works very well with a large lure, but any video or suggestions as how to tie a single hook such as a 1/0 or similar in size. Without the weight, bulk of the lure very difficult to do.
nice, so is the lack of lubrication just for illustration purposes but do you usually actually lubricate the knot?
Yes mate always lubricate any knot with fluorocarbon, I just did that to show that it doesn't burn or mark the line when synching it down!
@@CarlJocumsen got it man, thanks!
Definitely using this from now on but onto clips because I’m lazy. I did giggle though when you said 20lb was heavy. From Barra country up North.
It's also known as a listen. See Base has Tyler Berger uses it to tie on lures and the improved clinch for hooks. He uses the Palomar on braid. Good instruction though Carl!
Looks like a good know that I should try, what is on your spools of line.
Finally someone who understands.
That one of my favorite knot … its real strong
I’ve tied this all my life but never double line like that! 🤩
Awesome mate hope it helps some!
Good video Carl. Very informative! Hope everyone is doing well.👍🏻🎣🙏🏻
Everything is great mate, appreciate the support!
👊🏻👊🏻
Interesting. Will have to try it this weekend.
Carl, what knot do you use for connecting fluoro leader to braid?
Double San Diego jam knot...
Hey mate great video and a awesome knot wont be needing 20lb for my tiny little sydney bass but im going to start using this 1!
What leader knot do u use for fluorocarbon?
Cheers
How many wraps would you do on lite line ? Thanks !!
double san diego jam knot. works great
I’d use the Trilene knot because it’s doubled thru the eye .
What about the double pitzen knot...
Nice knot. I had to watch it a few times cuz I kept falling asleep. Way too much and I don't ever get my knots to break doing it with way easier ties.
You should tie this knot to a clip swivel to stop twist.
Same as the double Pitzen knot?
Could also tie the double clinch knot
Just seen this, coming from the UK it always amuses me the number of different names you Americans have for traditional knots (no offence intended), every video calls this knot by another name. Is this similar to a Double Pitzen? Seems the same
I tie the double pitzen on fluoro. Similar knot. I’ve always worried that the line would burn in the San Diego jam. Thanks for not saying the Palomar. I hate that knot.
That knot, although strong Will impede the action of a lure..Personally I like a loop knot so the jig may be free to move. Thanks for this tutorial
Double Dan Diego Jam, famous SoCal saltwater knot
That's a double San Diego jam knot
👍
Double Pritzen looks the same with the silly multi tag ends
I always lub floro line!!!
How is this not the Double Pitzen knot?
And how does that work on a drop shot?
So, it's almost the same as the one I tie. Which I don't think has a name. But you double up, wrap up the main line and then down through the bottom loop and around your bait like a Palomar. It's the strongest knot I've come across. Only one tag end when done. So one third the chance of slipping. At least in my mind.
The only way the double pitzen moves is if you pull on the loop. Once you cut the loop, the knot can only tighten up.
Looks similar to the improved uni knot.
What drop shot knot are you using on floro
What's the difference from the Double Pitzen?..Double the line, go thru, wrap around 3 to 4 times, go thru the loop at the top u created, pull tight and cut the 3 tag ends. Great flouro knot!
Isn’t this like the improved clinched knot?
Weird..... I'd really like to see this vs the Double Pitzen...
Great knot, but honestly, id be respooling my reels 3 times a season with all that line required!
Jimmy Houston knot. You’re welcome.
i bet that knot is fun to tie in the dark! 😂
On this side of the pond, we call it the double pitzen knot.
Sorry but couldn't see what was going on. You need to use a colored cord with a black background. For me anyway it was too confusing and could't see the line passes.
Looks like a Jimmy Houston knot
I also call this a double san diego jam. But, I prefer a double pitzen
just a double san Diego the best for braid too no slip
That’s a double San Diego jam
You should make an actual step by step guide so it's very clear what is being done. I personally use a Jimmy Houston Knot on all my lines, not just flouro.
Its basically a Jimmy Houston Knot
Hi. Guys, I am not so good with English and "Wet or dry? What is better?"
Why not just use a uni knot?
You have just tied a Trilene Knot.
san diego jam, but I do it single
You've could finish it in a Palomar knot with extra turns. I tie the knot with no turns (Palomar) and i've managed to land a 6 foot european catfish with it. One of the best knots out there, and very fast to tie on the water.
It's called double San diego Jam knot.
Three negatives about this knot. It's modertaly hard to tie. You lose quite a lot of line while tying it. You get three loose ends when you cut it.
Actually it's a double san deigo jam knot
Please Turn Autofocus OFF.
yea sorry everything was invisible lol
I wouldn't use this knot if I am using fluorocarbon as a leader. After 2 lures you have to cut and tie another leader on. There is a lot line being wasted doing this knot.
Use quick clips
Only for super eyes
I thought the whole point to lubricate the knot was to reduce heat created by friction when synching the knot down? Won't the lack of lubrication create a weaker knot?
Would be NICE if you used something we could SEE!!
✨✝️😇✨
double pitzen. I don't know why people rename knots
double s.d.
NOT CLERA CANT SEE
A jam is a jam a knot is a knot. The connection you prefer is a san diego jam knot. BUT it's still not a knot. #ThreeTagKnotsAreForIdiots
This is just a double san Diego knot nothing improved about it !
considering how long this video is, the essentials just arent there: out of focus at the critical times, I can't see whats going on.
why do you sound like an Aussie when speaking English ? I am really curious
Foolacarbon ties crap knots. It's the most over rated, dishonest product in fishing.
Horrible camera guy
Horrible video quality!
