Would love to see if the epoxy makes the PLA less prone to warping under the sun, and by how much

Really impressed that you did this testing. Thank. you! Water based polycrylic "varnish" needs several coats. Most of it evaporates which is why it was ~2% weight increase when dry compared to 6%. It would be interesting to see what 3 coats would do strength compared to resin. Win or loose that is the test that would be most informative.

The more coats just ad more weight, so it didn't make sense in my opinion. The varnish does not cure into a duraplast like resin do. So it will never add the same strength to the part. It is just a nice primer before painting 👍

Very interest as always. Testing everything 👍👍

I use a nice airbrush to apply water based varnish. I get a very fine coat that is also very thin. But I get a very smooth finish. I still go over it with 400 grit sandpaper (lightly). I have done two coats before, and wet sanded with 600 grit sandpaper and it is like glass. I have also prepped the raw lw-pla with a fine scotch bright pad.

Try mixing the varnish with baby powder. Fills all the tiny gaps and sands very smooth.

I would love to see a resin comparison where you check identical 3D printed parts, once painted with a brush, once sprayed on and once dipped. It might be interesting to see the differences in strength vs weight an possibly surface finish.

Without the dipping this is already done in a previous video. Also in the testing playlist 👌

Shouldn't you be applying more than one coat? Most of the resin coatings state at least two often three coats for best results. Varnish is usually the same.

The next coats would mostly add just weight and no extra strength cause the LW-PLA is already impregnated. So I prefer one coat.

Hello and thank you for this vidéo
Last summer , I print several plane in lw pla
I expériment some trouble with the sun
Perhaps lw pla ht is good but not the price
Do you test your process with sun exposure ?
    Regards
    Chris

Awsome work as always. is that Standards White Spirits you are using to thinn the Epoxy? Could you use IPA or Acetone?

    • @laiebi_3639
      @laiebi_3639 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

I think IPA is the same ase spiritus. Difference beeing spiritus has some smell additives that prevent it from being turned into drinkable alcohol. Therefore its much cheaper than IPA here since it is not under alcohol tax, which IPA is (IPA costs like 20 times more here than spiritus)

Yes standard spiritus. Acetone is too volatile. The other chemic I don't use the in my workshop.

Now all nice painting and transition fly ?

Hello, what type of epoxy are you using ? It looks from a German company. Can I also use other general epoxy or is this a special type for using on plane parts. Thanks for helping

L285 epoxy. You can use every other too..

i think when it comes to lw pla we are really looking for heat resistance..

What paint do you use for lw pla?

an other nice and easy solution for strong lwpla parts: combine varnish with 25g glas tissue, would be interesting, to see the difference to your resin parts; cool project, but please give him back his tail😁

Is it necessary to polish before brushing resin?

Does the epoxy making the Lw pla more heat resistance?

Why do you even need to cover surface with this?
