I'm 71. 60 years ago my brother, who's now 86, took me to see this movie. I had no idea what was going on but I loved the scenery and the dancing and the music. I still remember the vivid blues of the sky and the sea. Many years later I saw it again. I had no idea it was a B&W film. Oh, to be that child again!

Es la lucha entre el espiritu dionisiaco( Zorba) y el apolíneo( Basil)...es un canto a la amistad a pesar de las profundas diferencias. La conversación anterior a esta Zorba le dice a Basil que lo tiene todo menos una cosa...la locura...que hay que estar un poco loco para ser feliz... Es una delicia ver esta pelicula!!!

The funniest thing is that the movie, via this scene, ends on a failure, showing that the essential is somewhere else.. Maybe in the efforts, love and courage given in order to achieve an un achieved goal. "Little miss sunshine" delivers the same philosophy.

Zorba the Greek was my late mother 's favorite movie. Whenever she walked into a video shop she always asked if they had it in stock. She must have watched it a 1000 times😂😅

Even though Anthony Quinn was Mexican American instead of Greek, from what fans and I saw, he was perfect for the role. After traveling around the mediterranean, I discovered Latin Americans are so similar to people from the mediterranean. :)
This is a great masterpiece of a story ... you hear the music but there is nobody playing it on the scene. That means they have it in their hearts and minds ... and there is something more important developing, once the dance is getting under way ... ``you are getting it" I watched this for 100 times, and it always seems to give different vibes. That is real art! You can write your PhD on this....
It's called extradiegetic music, no need for a PhD :) (But the whole film Zorba the Greek, is definitely worth watching by all lovers of arts in general, and cinema in particular) :)

Lucky all of you! I only got to see him live waiting for his baggage at the Rome or NY airport years ago. Even this force of nature couldn't overcome that tedium.

I remember seeing this movie with my father and being very emotional. I was 11 years old and living in Germany temporarily with my family and he brought me tapes to watch. It ended up being one of my favorite movies. Now in my late twenties my father is old and I still remember this movie.

Ví el estreno de "Zorba el griego" al final de los años sesenta (entre 1966 a 1969), y esta escena del baile quedó grabada en mis recuerdos como algo de lo más maravilloso. Esa energía y alegría de Anthony Quin me parece que le dió un toque único a ese momento.

I was at the Greekfest all this last weekend in New Orleans and it was a blast! They have a super tight knit Greek community here and their balalaikas playing the bouzouki music is so romantic and soulful. The Greek band always finishes up the event each night playing Zorba the Greek. It's a sight to behold with many people young and old doing that soulful Greek dance. 🇬🇷 OPA! 🇬🇷 OPA! 🇬🇷👍🏻

Always worth a visit to this magic. Especially if you have experienced the company of the Greek people in remote areas of their land and shared food and drink with the. As I have, years ago.

I remember this movie as alternately confusing and horrifying until this scene. All of a sudden it made sense. I can't believe it ws almos 60 years ago and I still remember it so well.
I just LOVE the instrument in this music. And Anthony Quinn of course - a force larger than life. I wish someone would do a scene with this song similar to MamaMia the movie 2018, but on a Greek Island with yachts and the azure sky and dozens of people dancing the Zorba. It would be spectacular!!!

A fabulous actor he was perfect as Quasimodo in The Hunchback Of Notre Dame perfect as Hâmza in The Message perfect as Omar Mukhtar in Omar Mukhtar Lion Of The Desert and perfect as Alexis Zorba in Alexis Sorbas.
They do, TCM shows them but the rotation is not exactly… what I would call effective lol. I grew up watching TCM as a kid and saw many beau movies no one else played

I remember seeing this movie with my father and being very emotional. I was 11 years old and living in Germany temporarily with my family and he brought me tapes to watch. It ended up being one of my favorite movies. Now in my late twenties my father is old and I still remember this movie.

J'étais une petite fille de 8 ans quand ma mère m'a fait découvrir Zorba le grec. Je n'ai jamais oublié ce film, cette dance sur la plage et surtout cette musique si belle, gaie et entrainante. Ce fut un rayon de soleil qui me conduit à sourire de plaisir et de bonheur comme toute la musique grecque chaque fois que je l'entends.

Ví el estreno de "Zorba el griego" al final de los años sesenta (entre 1966 a 1969), y esta escena del baile quedó grabada en mis recuerdos como algo de lo más maravilloso. Esa energía y alegría de Anthony Quin me parece que le dió un toque único a ese momento.

Cuanto más miro a Anthony más me recuerda a mi abuelo Agustín; quien fue un hombre decente, patriarca como pocos, pues dio patenidad a muchos sin que tuviera nexo filial. Hasta en esa danza griega lo veo muy parecido. Mi querido abuelo, cuánto lo extraño.

I was at the Greekfest all this last weekend in New Orleans and it was a blast! They have a super tight knit Greek community here and their balalaikas playing the bouzouki music is so romantic and soulful. The Greek band always finishes up the event each night playing Zorba the Greek. It's a sight to behold with many people young and old doing that soulful Greek dance. 🇬🇷 OPA! 🇬🇷 OPA! 🇬🇷👍🏻
