    Firstly, thank you!
    I haven’t sewn a piece of clothing in decades; I’m more into making things for the home (curtains, cushions, bedding)
    I bought this pattern (because it was going cheap 😋) and thought I’d have a go. Honestly the instructions threw me so decided to put the pattern code into TH-cam. Thank you again for taking the time to run us through it.i very much appreciate your effort to help us. 💐😀

    This is the best illustration of this pattern on TH-cam...detailed enough for beginners as well. Thank you!

    I like this pattern and think the top looks great! I like your idea of sewing the bottom bands on first before sewing the side seams. I enjoyed watching the sew along. Thanks, Michou!

    Hi there, MJK stands for Mary-Jo Kirk. I live in Alberta,Canada. Thank you for doing the sew along for this top. I made a few mistakes and with your help I now know how to do it correctly. So I’m going to have another go at it. I have saved this video to refer back to. Once again thank you for taking the time to help me.

      Hi MJMK I am a former Alberta resident. One small piece of advice Michou didn't say that helps beginners a lot is to read the pattern and see how wide the seam allowance is that you are to sew. Some patterns are 3/8", some 5/8" and some, usually knits 1/4". This could make all the difference trying to fit the bottom band on. Experienced sewers like Michou know how to take in a bit here and a tuck there to fit her body.

    I am so glad I have found your beginner tutorial. I had view D of this pattern sitting unfinished because I had no idea what I was doing. I am very much a beginner (just started sewing in May of last year for the first time ever!!) and the pattern envelope suggested this is an easy pattern. I think the instructions in the pattern are horrible for someone who is just starting out like myself. And I have looked at other channels with what they claim is tutorials, but they skip steps, assuming you know what your are doing. You have been so helpful and I love your style of tutorial. I will definitely see if you have more tutorials and will follow your channel. Thank you so very much! Paula from Canada.

      Well hello Paula. Lovely to hear from you. I'm so pleased my tutorial helped you. I must confess I haven't done a great deal of tutorials abd I was asked by a viewer if I could do this one because she couldn't understand either. However, if you do come across a pattern you like and you'd like some help in understanding it do let me know. I'll do my best to do a tutorial for it. Happy sewing. micheline xxx

    • @michoumakes
      @michoumakes  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Go for it. Diana, it's a fairly straightforward pattern and I'm sure you'll be able to manage it. Always remember that even the most professional of us make mistakes.
      I can count on more than two hands. the number of garments that I've made that have ended up in the bin during my sewing lifetime .
      Even today you may notice that I'm sometimes not happy with their things that I've made and I have toto what you call 'tweak' them by changing the neckline, taking in the sleeves, shortening or lengthening it, raiding the neckline.
      I would advise you don't use expensive fabric first to make this garment. just in case you're not happy with the end result then you won't have wasted good money.
      👍😉❤️

    I enjoyed watching tonight
    I'm grandson sitting and the 5 year old wanted to see my friend. And said the next time I make him a shirt he wants blue, lol. So at least he understands that sewing creates garments.
    I need to get my pinking shears sharpened. The local shop wants $8.00
    I don't know if that's a good price or not.
    Our trees are turning so it's definitely autumn now. Time to get some good needle cord for warm shirts
    The stash sewing with a long sleeve shirt looks nice, but I agree that putting the bottom band on separately makes since.
    I didn't remember the penny aprons until you mentioned them But that's what mom and gma wore!

    • @michoumakes
      @michoumakes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      hi Janice
      I have some very old pinking shears abd like yours I could get them to cut well lately. so in the end I treated myself to a new, not too expensive, pair and I'm amazed at the difference it makes. I sadly decided to bin the old ones. 😉😘 ah yes pinnies were what the working ladies always work back when I was a kid. 😉

    Thank you so much for this. I'm currently making this top, but struggling a bit. I've made the main body of the top. I'm doing view E. I'm having a 'fitting' issue related to narrow shoulders, I'm actually very petite. Anyway I'm using cheap bits of fabric, so this is a trial run. Right now I'm working on the little cap sleeves, and trying not to burn myself with the iron! The tiny hems are a real challenge. I love your cat. Looking for attention or perhaps he wanted his din dins. ❤

    • @michoumakes
      @michoumakes  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Louise, lovely to hear from you. If you have narrow shoulders I suggest you just make a yoke first using scrap fabric and adjust accordingly. The straps are fairly narrow already, so cutting some of the width off the shoulder straps may or may not work for you. The other alternative is to take a piece out of the middle of the yoke at the centre front and back I don't know how narrow your shoulders are but maybe it's half an inch and redraw the yoke. This might mean that you have more bodice fabric to gather and fit into the yoke if that's ok then fine but if you need then reduce the bodice by the same amount. I hope you understand what I mean. 😉😘

    • @louisemcelhill5748
      @louisemcelhill5748 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@michoumakes yes, I thought I would try that idea. It will mean more gathers in the main part of top, which may or may not be ok. It might look like a maternity top. 😂

    • @michoumakes
      @michoumakes  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@louisemcelhill5748 then I would gather as they suggest and remove fabric from the side seams. If you need to cater for wider hips then try tapering it down to nothing at the waist on both sides. 👍😘

    I too used to do facings by laboriously rolling out the seam, pinning then pressing - but I've since seen the 'light' and understich them instead! That way the facing is never glimpsed on the outside of the garment!

    hi Michou, great tutorial, love the flowery fabric really pretty. I have that pattern and don’t think i’ve ever used it, i enjoyed watching you sewing it in my opinion I thought the band on the bottom spoiled it a bit, made it too long I would have turned the band up in half the same as the facings and it would also hang a bit heavier. but over all it looked nice with the black T shirt underneath. I see your cat had to get in on the action too love her.x

    Michouline, have you ever watched "Sheree Alchemy" on TH-cam? I think you might like her channel, like you, she has a nice curvy shape and wears similar style as you and she sews a lots of dresses and lots of patterns, she lives in Minnesota. She makes alot of the wrap dresses and they look nice on her, and I think they would also flatter your shape as well.

      I went straight across to watch her after your comment Renee. forgot to acknowledge it here tho. over the years I've made and loved wrap over dresses. • @michoumakes
      @michoumakes  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      easily done. in the same way as I took the side seam in because there was a little too much gape under the arms you could at that stage add princess darts to the front and back. the only thing that you'd have to be careful of is that you don't make it so fitted that you can get it over your head. the answer to that if it is too fitted is to add a side zip down the left seam.👍😉😘

I've checked again this morning and still the same result. it gives the appearance that the back yoke is bigger than the front🤔 however, it also gives the appearance of me having a broad back (which I never thought I had!)
