- Cleaning hazy windshield glass in the front camera housing of a Tesla Model 3 to improve quality of dashcam videos and potentially improve Autopilot performance. Disassembly of rearview mirror cover to clean glass.

Thank you for sharing this. I have a 21 M3P and have a haze that’s been since I took delivery of the car. Just did it. Was nervous at first but with patience, which is key you can get it done. Finally have a clean glass in front of the cameras. 😁

My brand new 2023 m3 has had it since I got it. Huge problem when combined with a misty windshield. I'll have to give this a go
The dash cam was the least concern for me. Over time Tesla released many updates to FSD, but I saw gradual reduction of FSD performance, later I noticed it is trying to use windshield wipers to wipe perfectly clean glass. Have to turn wipers off, but it would use them when FSD is active anyway. Should have done it earlier, would probably enjoy FSD more. I did not disconnect the mirror wire, just let it hanging while disassembling and cleaning the glass area. I took picture of the lenses and noticed the center one had a lot of small smudges. Used lens cleaning kit for DSLR to clean the center camera lens only (side lens are recessed and were clean) and it is now clean as well. I did recalibration just in case and it completed in about 10 miles of driving on the highway.
I have FSD now too and noticed that after cleaning it a second time, auto wipers and auto headlights work flawlessly now. Some of it is probably software improvements but I did notice an improvement just before/after with the same software.
Can I just place a package tape clear or painters tape around to avoid gassing up? I don’t mind, how it looks. I just want to avoid maintenance
Given the design, I don't think there is any way to really seal it to the point that it is airtight to keep moisture/gasses out. Once you get used to it, it's a ~30 minute job that you can do once or twice a year. Procedure is almost the same on the new Highland, only difference being the location of the screws on the inner cover and the tabs where it slides in. You could probably delay it a bit by driving with windows up most of the time, recirc on, and don't leave things like damp towels from pools or the beach and other damp things in the car.

Sorry I didn't see your question. Answering from my personal account... the car was 11 months old at the time. It's now almost exactly a year later and the film has not returned but I'm OK with the fact that this could be an occasional maintenance item. I expect to have to do it again in the future.
Gonna do mine tomorrow. It’s much worse than yours was.
