Great that you could move your livestock to the farm safely. Yes, you have much to do yet, but at least you're in the place you want to be now. I will certainly enjoy your progress now that your farm is starting to progress big time.
Thanks, we are excited too! Still so much to do but at least it feels like home now. I have been fixing a lot of electrical issues too. I can do more with the cooler weather too!
I prefer square bales too. I can pick one up and don't have to have help with it. I still see them for sale around here, just not as much. I have 2 cows and 3 steers and when I put a round bale out for them, they don't eat it fast enough and a lot of the hay is wasted. I needed a way to put out less hay at a time and remembered a video I'd seen several years ago by Cog Hill Family Farm, titled, "This Seems Sketchy, But It Will Be HUGE If It Works!!" They cut their round bale with a chainsaw!!!! When we were using square bales we had a hay shed we could store them in, now that we use round bales I just tarp them. We do have plans to build a hay shed though. I haven't collected a chicken egg in Days. My flock balance is off right now, I have a bunch of young roos that hatched out this Spring and my girls are not having it. My ducks are still laying enough to feed us though..
Square bales are much easier to handle for sure! We used to use a saw to cut our old round bails but they were the wrapped silage ones and they stunk! We have not seen any squares for sale yet. The rounds should work ok though. We thought about making a feeder by wrapping a hog panel around it. the goats waste lots of hay in general. Our chickens are still laying surprising laying. Just got back from running another load of our belongings. Just been so busy! I finally stopped at the hardware store in Hasty too. Cool place! We snuck in a hike up round top yesterday too.
U-ship is pretty great! I have quoted some other equipment moves and the prices are great. The lady we used to move the goats was a great! We found out ours was her first transport! She did great.
It's a great place to be! Let me know if you have any questions about the area or homesteading. The prices are starting to go up though. It is a great time to be out here though. Still have lots of stuff to move yet unfortunately, but nothing pressing anymore.
@@HomesteadReliance thanks! I’ve been looking for 5 years. We remember when prices were reasonable in N. Arkansas. Couldn’t wait so I purchased a home in the country with an acre of land. That’s all I could afford. We’ve had a lot of unexpected problems in Illinois which are slowly getting resolved. At the new place I was able to pull up old carpeting, paint and change the locks. Now we are slowly moving but still have to sell our house which is in a good market area. I’ll be looking to improve the new place, upgrade security and work on a garden, rain catchment and set up my solar power system. I can’t wait. I look at your site frequently. Take care.
thanks much and good luck with your projects! Yes we are also working on rain catchment. We just had a drought and then last night over 6"! It's been crazy
Do you worry at all about snakes especially copperheads?..I want to get chickens for the many bugs but worry about snakes...enjoyed watching you move that shed...glad you showed it...looked like quite the undertaking Bonnie
Hello Bonnie, At first we did, but so far we keep the eggs collected right away daily, keep them close to the house, and in shorter grass in the chicken tractors. We do have some hawks or eagles that fly over that I would worry about if we free ranged. Yea it was a lot of work moving that shed but well worth it. So many projects! I'm working on a list now!
Thanks! Yes we still have quite a bit more but nothing needed right away. I just got back from another trip (if I don't respond quick I"m probably on the road). Brought more tools, ATV, another trailer, and more needed items (food stores). I miss my scrap bin and I go to make something and don't have my old scrap metal or wood. That has been a bummer. We are not planning on another trip until well past the election. I don't want to drive through the cities and I have to now start planning around the weather. Our current property is high up and if we get an ice storm the roads are not safe at all. I also brought this trip my new bar light I bought years ago and replaced the buzzing one here. The light here was not working right and so glad I replaced it.
Wow ! You have been very busy and getting alot accomplished!
Yes we are getting there. Slowly but surely. We still have a bit to move yet though!

We used u-ship as well...we loved our transporter...used him 3 times & fixing to have some stuff transported again

You have done so much in a short time. Way to go. Do you still have things to get in Wisconsin or is the move complete?
