  • Season 1, Episode 5, Railways Abandoned Spaces. Embark on a journey through time as we walk the rails of history and unveil the abandoned Captains Flat Branch line.
Nestled in the Southern Tablelands of NSW, this relic of our mining railway past reveals a captivating tale of a bygone era.
Opening in 1939 amidst the boom of mining in the area, this once-thriving station witnessed the rise and fall of an industry. The line fell silent in 1968, with only 30 or so years of service, leaving behind echoes of an era long past.
Join us in this exploration of abandonment, where every rustling leaf and crumbling structure whispers stories of forgotten railway heritage.

Hi Dave, yeah it's one of the top 30 shortest running lines. Thanks for watching, I'm trying something a little different with this one.

    Thanks Barrie.
I've seen these tracks for so many years and never really looked into it.
    Thank you for this.

Someone lived in the station building which was fenced off so couldn't get near it. I supposed that reduced the vandalism, not sure if someone lives in it now.
In some tour notes I read that it was unusual for a terminal station to have an island platform. I did manage to go to Bombala on a tour in the 1980s.

Hi Daryl, yeah it is an unusual design. The house was sold in 1974. Thanks so much for watching and sharing.

The station was occupied as a residence for many years but I believe it has been empty for some time. I don't know how many owners/occupants there have been or who owns it today.

I wouldnt mind seeing it redone as a rail link. Could potentially help grow the area of Bungendore to have a heritage/tourist railway. I would love that.

It would be amazing for Bungendore and Captains Flat, a boost to the small businesses. Thanks for watching

Maybe rail groups like Canberra, Goulburn and few others work together for this

Billions wasted every year on garbage, yet never any money for repair of old branch lines all over NSW and Australia. They would all be viable if managed correctly.

Hi Ashley, I agree totally, plus the tourist revenue it would bring to country NSW
