Thank you for your programme.I can still remember as a young child riding on theses red rattlers whenever we visited Sydney.Such an experience for a young kid from the countryside.Pity they are left there to rot.Thank you.
Between 12:00 - 17:00 these aren't Tulloch, but Comeng 'sputnik' cars 3714 (1958) & 3725 (1959) You can tell the difference between them & Tulloch as there is no sliding door next to the drivers control stand, the passenger doors were electrically operated & fluro tubes instead of incandescent light bulbs. Both cars were on set W2 which was repainted into the Sydney zoo train in 1992 before being withdrawn in 1994. I'm not sure if they are the same cars seen externally between 29:00 - 30:00. You can buy the zoo train as part of an 8 car set in Ho scale at Bergs Hobbies in Parramatta. Between 24:00 & 27:00 these aren't Tulloch's either. AFAIK they are 'standard' cars built specifically as parcel vans at the Walsh Island dockyard in 1928.
Nothing now compares to the thrill of hanging on to a bar next to an open door on a packed red rattler going over the Sydney Harbour Bridge. One slip and...good night. Did that for several years coming in to work via the north shore.
Amazing.. never would have thought the transport I caught everyday for over 10yrs would end up like this. Thank you sooo much for sharing. Lots of memories on these olegirls
It's a shame everyone thinks it's their right to vandalise disused things. Wreck it for others to enjoy history 😢or it's former beauty in its hey days..
This is an absolute disgrace and the reason I left SETS. Screaming out for every withdrawn carriage to be saved. Get custody of these carriages and now look at them. This is not preservation just a bloody disgrace. Now of course they’re on the V and K set bandwagon. These carriages can never be restored now don’t let this happen again. Send these carriages to be scrapped please!
Shame they were not put in some sort of storage. I walked through them some 12 years ago and back then they were in a pretty bad state. I'm actually surprised they look as good as they do. Really is a shame. I can feel your anger and disappointment
Same here, mate. To see these become wrecks is a personal insult to me as I had donated my own hard earned money towards the so-called ‘ preservation’ of these vehicles. The Sydney Electric train society is the biggest joke on earth. They are delusional with no vision or goal, nothing but a bunch of foamers who hate being called out for what they are; a pack of immature idiots. Now they did the same again this time at Merriwa at the old station site, another seven rattlers stored out the open and in the elements. These guys haven’t got a clue. I too, left with disgust after being one of the first original members since 1993 I had a gutful and had joined up with their opposition; Historic Electric Traction, or HET. At least they are working with the heritage section of TrainsNSW and doing a good job with the three electric trains they have.
@@gregbassace1 thanks for your response HETS do good work , State rail need to stop allowing SETS to have custody of anything. We like our history respected! Not abused.
Hot days, open the doors and or the windows or all ,great. Some one farts , open the window, the sun hot and shining directly on you ,no problem pull down the window shade, people with luggage with rattlers you had luggage racks above your head. The seat backs were higher more easy to hang on to when standing. Yes ,many met their demise for various reasons but for the majority these were the only way to travel.

They served Sydney well for decades and were so much fun.

Sadly the only time these carriages will ever move again is on a one way trip to the scrap metal yard.
@@dougthespud hopefully not hopefully they are repurposed
Too far gone mate. Even their bodies are evidently decaying.
No unfortunately.
Very depressing to watch.Thanks
Where abouts is this located
Chullora, Sydney, disused industrial branch line.
Near Anzac Avenue Chullora, the graffers and vandals already know where they are.
