    Not sure that "long haul VLocities" are a thing. yes there's a different internal layout on the standard gauge versions, but for broad gauge I don't think there' a plan to use other than what we have already, just hopefully not the ones with those hard seats. Maybe in the future when there's some money for a new layout.

    Minor correction: Although the Queenscliff branch line still operates, it only does so as a heritage line between Drysdale and Queenscliff, as the rails between Drysdale and Geelong have been removed. This section now forms a rail trail (which actually continues to Queenscliff, alongside the heritage railway)

    Velocity’s don’t run on Warrnambool line it’s still loco hauled carriages
    West coast didn’t close any stations they actually started stopping at more

    A great video. I'll be watching it a few times because there's so much interesting info you've picked up. I'm in the photo somewhere as a 2 year old on that last train to Beech Forest where the old 2'6" gauge G42 Bayer Garrett was slow due to leaking stream badly apparently. I still have some memories of that trip.

    The Timboon and Mortlake lines branched off at junctions some distance away from Camperdown and Terang, not right at those stations.

    For information about the Port Fairy line, you're better off looking at the displays on the rail trail at Port Fairy.

    Not sure if you ever knew any old drivers but they told me the dennington trestle bridge replacement was the excuse to close the line to port fairy. It was very popular. Good video tho mate

    Would love you to do a story on the abandoned Wangaratta to Whitfield narrow gauge line. Locos and rolling stock now part of the Puffing billy line.

    Yet another correction required: There is still a freight train to Warrnambool, basically overnight Monday to Friday? It travels a short distance beyond the 'bool to it's own siding for loading and unloading, which is the only location it serves.

    • @darylcheshire1618
      @darylcheshire1618 ปีที่แล้ว

      is that Dennington?

    • @gregmichael8473
      @gregmichael8473 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@darylcheshire1618 No, it's between "bool and Dennnigton at a location that has been set up just for this service, known as Westvic siding. Dennington was the terminus for a while after the line beyond to Koroit/ Port fairy closed as the Nestles factory there needed briquettes for its bolier. Not sure if they shipped any produce by rail.

    Not a bad video, but aside from the pronunciation of place names (which need work), I wouldn't have continuously referred to the West Coast line as the "Port Fairy line." In my mind it's either the Geelong line, Warrnambool line, or the West Coast line. There are numerous branches off this line, south of Geelong, that could be investigated as to what remains today. Take the time to do your research properly, take photos and video of places as they are today, and where possible pause on old photos and maps. A 2 second view does nothing for interested viewers. 🙂

    Think you need to do more research on the South-west line and redo this video. As there are so many corrections have been posted in the comments.

    Adding to people's comments to help you do your presentations. Don't talk so fast, slow down and speak clearly. Yes make sure you pronounce places correctly. I heard many missed pronounced places.

      My thoughts exactly, I cringe at the mis-pronunciations' of place names I know, it makes me wonder exactly how much research actually goes into these videos. It's great knowing the facts, but there are facts behind the facts that seem to be overlooked, especially place name pronunciations.

    • @bull716
      @bull716 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great video work on the pronunciation and you’ll be right .
      It wouldn’t be viable to return the old links when they did operate they were losing money, even the cost of freighting and the freight charges wouldn’t be viable for the rail companies and businesses .
      The road system has improved trucks run efficiently and the modern e-commerce which can be transported by Australia post or the other main logistical companies make it way too competitive.

    Nonsense to say West Coast Railway closed some stations. It did not and actually stopped more trains at Birregurra than V/Line had stopped there prior to WCR taking over. (V/Line only stopped one Up in the morning and one Down at night). Goods trains also currently regularly operate (scheduled five night per week) to and from WestVic siding, a few km beyond Warrnambool station. Several other inaccuracies in the commentary. Needs far better research and editing. Maybe try to cover less subject matter in this time frame, eg. just do the Port Fairy line, rather than trying to cover all of the branch lines and doing it poorly with many errors. You missed the Geelong Racecourse branch line.

      I do remember the passenger train to Port Fairy. The B class cut off and went over the road . It was like a narrow easement room for one locomotive sandwiched between two houses, I think..Too bad it doesn't run there how good for the folk festival with a train full of musicians playing.

  • @yewenyi

    We booked to catch the train to port fairy. But between when we booked our tickets and the trip they closed the line. So sadly we had to use a bus from warnambool to port fairy.

    This video would have a bit more credibility if the voice over could pronounce the names of towns even remotely correctly.

    I think you should spend more time studying the detail of railway history before producing these videos. i.e. Colac did not have a narrow gauge platform.

  • @michaelnaisbitt7926

    The line cannot be reopened because the trestle over the Merri River is in such poor condition It would need a complete rebuild too costly

    You are still using photographs without permission. 2 of mine are in this video. I've never heard the Geelong to Maroona line referred to as a "branchline" Also, why even mention a level crossing collision as a rail accident? They happen often and are simply caused by idiot car drivers. You really need to do a bit of research into place name pronunciation. Sone of your pronunciations are absurd.
