I have to confess that I was originally very in favor of the darker color. But seeing it on the wall I can see that it makes the room too dark. You made the right choice. Also, this is exactly the type of video content I really love. ❤

I love the fern motif ...but it would be more natural in a fern green color (paler green than what she has used before), and in the inverse with the ferns green and the background white. As it is, the ferns are white and the background is blue. And if you look carefully the ferns take up most of the space on the wallpaper ....therefore there is more white than blue. So the light color prevails. However, if the color was pale green on the ferns it would still be fairly light (and the background white). Perhaps that is a designer thing to do... the inverse pattern ...the unexpected.

Moving forward, the kids playhouse could be surrounded by plants that wasps and bees just don't want to be around. There are some that might work quite well in small borders around it. I don't know if the effect they have is very strong and it may increase your watering work quite significantly, but it could be worth checking out. They tend to be quite nice herbs - you might get the kids maintaining their own little herb garden around the playhouse. Good luck with the research if you do it....!

And, hopefully this isn’t the case, but if you live with it a while and don’t like it-it’s just paint and labor-lots of labor 😉. Love the planters and so glad the wasps are gone. Color = emotion and fills our days with inspiration. The dark blue is rich and feeds the eyes with it's color pallet . Bravo for the blue ! The meaning of the color blue in color theory depends on its shade. Unlike the vividness of bright blue and royal blue or the happy lightness of blue pastel colors, dark blue conveys power, depth, and elegance. Kara from Montreal.

I am Team Chateau all the way, but I agree with you, Anna, that the walls be white. Not only will it set off the gorgeous wallpaper, but it will do a nice job of framing the clutter of jackets and boots without distracting from the wallpaper designs. And, in the darker seasons, it will maximize the natural light coming into the room. This is a tough room to design because it has to be hardworking and play well with the sightlines into the other rooms. The white trim helps all the colors in the house to play well together. I say this knowing that my personal color preferences are more aligned with Philip's. Thanks for sticking with the project and sharing it with us. 🥰

I am a professional color consultant, and the warm white looks great. There is a dialogue or echo with the kitchen paint color, and the boot room become an ancillary room of the kitchen.
Undertones are the one most important thing to consider in a paint color, and this white appears to have an orange undertone, and that ties in with the persimmon paint color of the dining room beyond.
Having said that, I liked the blue. I have also tried something, done schematics, and then when it is up on the wall or door, etc, you listen to your gut -its just a feeling, and you need to trust that.
I am glad its not a bright white, because that would have been too stark, and it does not reflect the period of the house, or the architecture, or the function as a boot roof that gets heavy use with mud and scuffs.
To help you going forward in selecting paint color, I use this process with my clients and projects:
    1) What is outside, is there a color I need to consider from the view?
    2) What is the orientation-North, South, East or West. North facing room have cooler, blue light, and if I did a blue painted bedroom that faced north I would choose a blue with some green in it to be warmer. I never do a white with grey or blue undertones in a north facing room, but I would do a neutral, or a warm white. South light is warmer, and you can do a color that has some blue undertones.
    3) fixed elements: what is the color and undertones in existing flooring, or trim, or stone, or anything that will stay in the room that you need to consider. Paint can just be the backdrop that harmonizes with your life and furnishings
    4) what is the function of the room. If it is a room where you gravitate to during the day, then a lighter paint finish whereas rooms that you just pass through, or use in the evening are often atmospheric in a medium or dark paint color.
    5) LRV, or light reflective value. from 0-100 dark to light, most people are happy with a LRV of 83 for a bight color, and 64 or so for a medium color. Oddly enough, a dark paint color can make a small room seem bigger because it make the walls recede. I think that if you go the dark route that artwork helps break up the dark wall.
    6) what is the feeling, what is your nostalgia, memory; what makes you feel good in the room. Do you love it.
Have fun with it all. experiment.
and lastly for you: You have done a fabulous job on all the paint colors throughout, I think it all looks exceptional.

I'm so glad you showed us that process of vacillating about the wall color and having to do it over a couple of times. As you pointed out, social media image-sharing allows us to show final results, but skips all the common agonizing about design choices and do-overs. It's easier to tell ourselves that we suck at something because we forget that creating things is iterative - it's normal to go back again and again. We need to normalize trial and error methods!

The jade color glass may in all likelihood be glass cullet from a commercial glass manufacture. When making glass commercially there is always a bit left over in the refractory vessel. This is then removed before the next use. The cullet was then sold to masons (among other end users) as fill. My guess is that there was a glass factory nearby to your chateau.

I worked as a furniture maker for many years with an absolutely brilliant interior designer with an architectural background who would have been very much at home working on any facet of a home like yours whatever your prerequisites. One of his cardinal rules of design was to always be consistent. I heard that on more than one occasion. He also explained to me in a house we were remodeling that he liked to be sure that colors would segue from one room into the next especially when you had to travel through one room to get to another, like many older homes. It may have been something as simple as a tri-colored rope braid around the bottom of a couch with some matching cushions, but there it was, leading you subtly from the room you were in to the next as opposed to a virtual stab in the eye of contrasts. And if the client were a big fan of color, that was his bailiwick. He did a lot of memorable work in his life. On that note, in my opinion, I have to give you kudos, Anna for the choice you made with the color. So in that context, the move from the kitchen to the boot room and vice versa is exemplary. How are the transitions to the next rooms? To the outside, the exterior facade work is outstanding. I am curious, however about the "global" reach of your boot room color as Philipp mentioned and when it was established that he was a man of "truth". I must have missed that episode. Jack L.

Your chateau is an absolute jewel! It deserves an unveiling! Anna I love the blue with your wall paper. But not in the boot room. It would be great to see that wall paper in a larger room with that blue. Who knows, maybe someone will see this video and decide they have to have that blue and your wall paper in their home. You guys are an inspiration!

My Lord, Anna and Philip!!! The façade, indeed all four façades. Stunning!!! It looks restored and refreshed, not blazingly new, not 21st century. You both deserve the Grand Cross in The Order of Preservation of Cultural Heritage!! (Should it exist) Truly stunning and utterly respectful to the chateau.
And Anna dear, I do understand your colour struggle. However.... I do think Philip is right. Beige is so... Bahama beige... Your blue on the other hand, in combination with your gorgeously designed wallpaper looks both fresh and modern and... a nod to the 18th century. Personally I would have chosen blue. Still, admiration for ALL the work you've put in. Eat your heart out Versailles!

Beautiful craftsmanship on the facade which looks so rich. With Anna's wallpaper the boot room will look stunning regardless of the color. Pale aqua with an aqua & navy cushion is what I thought of when Philip was talking, even though your choices have been top notch and I am just a granny enjoying your journey of dreams.

The facade looks absolutely stunning and worth every single dollar you spent! Oh Anna, I am sorry I am team blue on this one. Your wallpaper looks absolutely stunning against the blue but it blends in with white. The white is 'non offensive' the safe choice you make when you are struggling to make a choice. The blue is a bold and dramatic choice, but stunning. I could have cried when you painted over it, but it's your house and you are one doing all the painting work, so ultimately you have to go with what you want.

Or leave the room just light with the woodwork, coat and boot drama. As joint element with statement kitchen, dinning room and outdoors. And bring the blue wallpaper to totally different room, where to go bolder with supporting elements. Maybe Annas gut feeling and forum leads to something grander of a scale :)
