    Hi folks, this video is an edited version of one I uploaded way back in November of 2009. The original video has been "unlisted" since 2019 when YT decided they did not like it for some reason or another, but now it's back in all it's 480p glory! Do me a favor and please leave a comment and rate the video, and as always thanks for watching.

      Great Canadian Rifle . The accuracy is awesome.

  • @iornlint

    This rifle was a great part of my firearms ownership, extremely accurate despite a strange and spongy trigger

      Lots of us have fond memories of time shooting model 60's, and yes they can be quite accurate despite the squishy trigger pull.

    I love these older 22 rifles that represent a different time and they were built to last with a simple robust design

    • @314299
      @314299  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, they are simple and robust. About the only commonly "broken" part was the stock. There is a thin portion of the stock under the magazine tube that often gets cracked if the rifle is dropped or hit. Other than that quite "bulletproof".

    I remember this as being the first of your videos that I ever watched. I’ve had many model 60s come and go over the years. Last year I got the itch to own one again and picked up a well used, but not abused example for $150. The model 60 is truly a classic Canadian repeating 22. Happy New Year.

      Good to hear from you, and happy new year to you as well! The price of the old model 60 has certainly risen over the years, at one time a minty one might have brought $120 and an average one could be had for $50.

    CCI quiets are awesome if you can get them up north. 40 grain bullets at 710 fps. Still long rifle so it doesn't hinder accuracy. I've tested it and they're quieter than cci cb shorts.

    Thanks for the video. Very well done!!! I picked up a Ranger a while ago. I finally tried it out and it wouldn't chamber a round. I think the chamber was extremely carbon fouled. After hours of cleaning, I finally got it to chamber CCI Mini Mags as well as other CCI LR rounds but it won't chamber Winchester white box HP ammo. The bullet goes in but the casing binds. Very weird. Otherwise is functions great! Not sure if my Ranger is a model 60 or a 600. Thanks again for the video!!

    • @314299
      @314299  2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      That certainly is odd that CCI cases will chamber but not Winchester. I bet there is still some crap like fine rust or perhaps a carbon ring in the chamber from a previous owner shooting a lot of 22 short ammo.

      @seniorsurvivor7381 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @314299 yes, I was thinking the same thing.
      I was thinking of soaking the chamber end of the barrel in transmission fluid or diesel for a couple of days to soften up the carbon.

    • @314299

      Is your scope mount one of the stamped steel ones? They were made in two sizes, one for 3/4" scopes and one for 7/8" scopes. 3/4" are not too hard to find but 7/8" are rather uncommon. I suggest looking around at gun shows, one will usually turn up eventually.

    • @314299
      @314299  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is an interesting story with this rifle and the trigger. The first time I saw this rifle it was in a local gun shop with no price on it. When I asked how much it was I was told it was broken and was for parts only. A previous owner attempted to do a "trigger job" on it and ended up making it unsafe - the rifle would sometimes go off as soon as the bolt was closed! So I got the rifle as "parts" for $50. I had a spare complete trigger mechanism and replaced the ruined one, refinished the wood and added the scope mount and scope and ended up with the rifle as you see it here.

    Hi... I have 2 Cooeys, both single shot... a Model 75, that I bought over 60 years ago for $7.00 from my uncle. My buddy passed away about 5 years ago and left me his Model 39. My eyesight is getting a little weak, and I wanted to add a couple of scopes. What kind of setup are you running? Thanks

    • @314299
      @314299  ปีที่แล้ว

      The rifle in the video uses an old discontinued weaver N3 side mount scope bracket/ring set for a 7/8" scope. Side mounts require the rifle to have been either factory drilled and tapped on the side of the receiver or, drilled and tapped by a gunsmith. Later versions of the rifle had the top of the receiver factory grooved for "22 tip-off mounts".
      If your rifles have grooved top receivers to scope them is as easy - just buy proper rings and a scope and install. If they are drilled and tapped on the left side of the receiver you will need side mount scope base and rings, Weaver makes these, you can look them up on the Weaver website. If the rifle is not already drilled and tapped you will need a gunsmith or machinist to do that. Be warned that the cost of drilling and tapping and buying the special side mount and rings will cost more then the rifle is worth. If you want a Cooey to shoot with a scope it is cheaper and easier just to get another one that's already set up for optics. Hope that answers your question.

    Maybe it's just the camera but I have to say the sound of the action cycling on that gun is very satisfying.

      Being recorded so long ago the sound quality might just be better than the video quality.

    Simple robust design. I still own a few, one recent acquisition was with an old mount and scope.

      Does yours have the same mount as shown in the video, or a different one?

    hey great vid only time so far i have seen somebody shooting Imperial i myself prefer it over anything new that i have found so far i use Dominion cil canuck cil imperial cil imperial ivi also a few years ago imperial came back or the name did i found some new imperial lr i find them at gun shows and every once in a while a old farmer has a few boxes cool nice job i dont think you could grow up in Rural Canada with out having or running into somebody with a Cooey!

      There is less and less of that old Dominion and Imperial ammo out there, it's getting hard to find. Not surprising as it's not been made in such a long time.

    I miss Imperial ammo.

      Imperial was good ammo for a long time, but for the last few years they were producing it the quality went down hill a lot.
