    I didn't even know that Gevelot used to make a Gevarm 22 semi-auto rifle, here in France... Now it looks that Gevelot makes only hunting cartridges. Thanks for the video.

    I too had one of these back in the 60’s but it was handed in to the police when Australia had a national gun amnesty / recall. My rifle was probably destroyed but maybe someone put it aside. A fine rifle, easy to keep clean. Many thanks for letting me get reacquainted with it.

I refinished my E1 with VHT high temperture wrinkle plus paint very strong long lasting and dosent chip or scratch off . it can also be baked on in the oven to speed up drying and durabilty . enjoyed your video . thanks

    I've seen them going for as much as $399 at gun shows (they're definitely rare to find, usually only 1 per show if any), and that's with one 8-round mag. The 20-round mag can sell for upwards of $80 for new ones, which usually require some gunsmithing to get to fit and work properly with the rifle, so a decent asking price for the package would be around $450 based on what I've seen in Alberta.

    wow, I bought mine at SIR in Winnipeg in 1971 with the long 30 round mag and a tasco 6X scope for $89.00, I cannot even begin to count the number of rounds I fired and it never misfired. I never trusted the pin safety though and carried it bolt closed. I figured if the time taken to pull the bolt back was a problem then I was not paying attention and should not fire anyway. Even at -35 it fired fine.

    Both standard and long mag were bought at same time as the rifle, back before it became well known and popular with people wanting open bolt guns. prices are ridiculous now, my father picked them up back before I existed. I saw one gun going for 350$ with the long mag a year ago, didn't feel like spending the cash on another one, so I let it go, but seeing as the mag isn't seen for less than 125$ it was a pretty good deal.

    I have one E1 with 2 20 mag. I fired 3000+ rounds and i don't even know how many my father shot (It was his). It still shoots great, I never tried mounting a scope since I shoot mostly at close range. At longer range I recall it wasn't really accurate, probably because of it's open blot action?!? Anyway it's a really reliable gun I NEVER had a misfire! It's simple, effective, reliable... I love it ;)

    • @314299
      @314299  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      The open bolt does make for a lot of "lock time", not really a design intended for long range accuracy. You found your 20 shot mags worked OK? I've head mixed things about the reliability of the 20 rounders.

    Had one since the 1960’s, was used extensively for close in feral pigs, and was ideal for the job. Towards the late 1970’s after heaps of use, it became fully automatic, probably needed a new spring, but I left it as is. This model reminds me of the Australian Owen machine carbine, an exceptional light machine gun from world war 11, which had a similar action, and traits.

    hi, i have an old one of these that i want to use and i want to get a red dot sight for it. most of the sights i've seen are weaver mounts, but i think this is a different mount (.22 tip off?). are there any mount adaptors that you know of that go from the Gevarm mount to a weaver mount?

    • @314299
      @314299  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are correct, these rifles use the ".22 Tip-Off" style of mount. I think Weaver makes adapters, but you can buy dot sights that attach directly to the tip off mount on the Gevarm.

  • @DaveTex2375
    @DaveTex2375 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    The ejection on that rifle is adequate. The brass kinda flips or tumbles out. Doesn't really "Kick" out the shells like my .22 pistol, rifle or even my pump action shotguns.

    • @314299
      @314299  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      From my perspective as long as it clears the gun the ejection is sufficient.

    • @314299

      No, it's not an issue as the outside edge of the bolt hits the end of the barrel instead of the "firing pin" portion of the bolt.

    Anyone have any issues with the bolt locking back and unable to move it forward? Or is this because there are no bullets in the mag? Unfortunately not going to put any in the mag while home and unable to go somewhere where I can at the moment

    • @314299
      @314299  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your comment has me a bit confused. The Gevarm E1 is an open bolt firing gun, the bolt is supposed to "lock back" until you pull the trigger. Pulling the trigger lets the bolt move forward, chambering and firing a round.
      Also the magazine being present, either unloaded or loaded, should have no bearing on the bolt moving forward.
