McKay was cool in this episode - no personal emotions bullshit, just cold head and professionalism. Didnt let himself to be fooled. And he wasnt intimidated at all by all this Sheps's "tough act" when directly opposed him about her. As for Sheppard, - well, this wasnt the first time when he put his personal feelings above the rational thinking. He was kinda notorious for that.
McKay kinda needed episodes like this, especially given his history on SG-1. McKay is incredibly bright, but also incredibly singular in focus and with strong beliefs, it sometimes leads to him charging up the wrong path with little room to reconsider, but if he gets going in the right direction he can accomplish anything. On SG-1 and sometimes on SGA we saw him charge the wrong direction, he needs episodes that show his character can be just as much a strength as a hindrance, if not more so.
I think it's that dynamic that makes a show great. Every Sci fi show needs a duo with one person representing logic, and one representing emotion. Kirk and spock, Archer and to'pol, Picard and Riker... they balance eachother out.
The war with the wraith wiped out the ancients in the pegasus and a disease wiped out the ones in the milky way. In both cases, some of the ancients ascended.
If Stargate had allowed Shepard and McKay to play our their Kirk/Spock kinship, this show would have been more iconic. It’s too bad they put a leash on them named Dr Weir. Ask yourself: how well would a Dr Weir have done on the bridge of the Enterprise A? How long ago would the crew have died before the first movie got made? She would have tried to talk the 11,000 sq mile space bacteria to death instead of Spock flying in to kill it. Kirk would have had his nuts handed to him repeatedly. Too bad. I love SGA. It would have been timeless if Shepherd and McKay were allowed to be explorers without supervision.
You obviously not looking at the whole franchise and its setting. The setting of the show around the same time as it was made, SGA not pretending to be in far into the future. This expedition and its administration structure also the results of full disclosure to the government by SGC.
@@Ragitsu lol, imagine if Senator Kinsey got control of the Stargate program like he schemed. SGA is run by Carter, then a military lawyer, Woolsey, after Weir got blasted into unemployment by the Replicators.
@Graeme would have prefered KcKay to be an explorer. The way the writers developed him, the "Forbidden Planet" would have had the control-rod pushed the first day.
