This is just flowey talking about why they are the best villain
Chara is actually there during ALL of your playthroughs, they're the narrator of the game. The only reason they don't control or appear at all on any playthroughs other than the genocide one, is because you didn't give them a reason to. At the end of the genocide run, they say that when they first awoken, they were confused and didn't really know why they would get reincarnated. It implies that they didn't reawaken specifically because you killed people, but rather because of your determination. If you decide to spare everyone/mostly everyone, they'll just observe and describe things for you, while giving you some of their memories from time to time (the dialogue on the Game Over screen is actually Asgore's last words to Chara before they died, and the one after Undyne makes us fall on the bed of flowers is actually Asriel meeting Chara for the first time after their fall). They'll even remind you that you are still Frisk at the end of the true pacifist run (if you go in front of the mirror at New Home, it'll say "it's still just you, Frisk"), implying that they didn't control your character's actions during this run.
But if you decide to kill every monster in the first zone of the game, they start feeling their power grow as you yourself get stronger, and they kinda get power hungry and decide to manifest themself this time around. They then start describing things as if they were talking to themself (if you go in front of the mirror in Toriel's home, it'll say "it's me !" instead of "it's you !", they'll also describe objects differently than on the other playthroughs, as if they aren't talking to Frisk anymore this time).
Anyway, Chara doesn't just possess your character out of nowhere, you have to give them the determination to, which actually makes you the villain because they wouldn't be bad if you didn't do the bad things that'll make them crave power in the first place.
But hey, that's just a theory. A GAME THEORY.

Finally someone else suggests that Chara is the narrator of the game. Though i feel like it's not conveyed explicitly enough to the point where it'd be a shocking reveal at the end of Genocide, most people don't even seem to realize it. Even I'm not sure if it's actually a part of the game or just a theory.

@@CrocoDylianVT the thing is, I can’t trust Asriel there. Chara could’ve taken a boss monster’s soul and instead decided to end their life to save everyone around them. They explicitly say they don’t blame Asriel for failing the plan, and Toriel even has the same exact plan Chara had with Asgore taking a human soul and harvesting 6 other souls to destroy the barrier. I can’t see a child who sacrificed their life for others as evil. And I don’t care what Asriel says on that front, since Frisk is the reason why Asriel says it (as if comparing them) and Frisk isn’t even in control of their actions.
Personally I think Asriel said that cuz they didn’t tell anyone but Asriel what they were doing, and likely downplayed what would happen to them. Chara intended to die but Asriel didn’t seem to fully get it, and both Toriel and Asgore were horrified watching them die.

As a writer I like to make the villain my main character. It’s a tired trope, but it makes things so much easier. Of course you still have to make a good hero.

technically the player is the scariest villain in Undertale, since they actually can do the things Flowey could do and more.
To be precise about what you said about Chara: The player doesn't give Chara a soul until the end of the genocide route. Chara described themself as the feeling the player gets when the stats increase. The player showing dedication to increasing stats shows a different kind of determination than on the pacifist and neutral routes, which is why the save points change to be focused on killing all the monsters rather than to be focused on the circumstances and/or scenery. As this is the process of awakening Chara, this is why by the end of the genocide route, Chara is the narrator, but didn't use possession; the player has many opportunities to abort the genocide route by proceeding far enough without being sufficiently murderous, and once they've gotten to the point of no redemption within one playthrough, they can still reset with no negative consequence at any time until they kill Flowey at the end, since that's the last kill until Chara appears.
slight correction, Chara seems to be the narrator for the entire game, not just the Genocide run. It'd be a little weird to have two different narrators with near-identical speaking styles
@@irishuisman1450 Although the white text changes to reflect what happens during Frisk's journey, I think that's just a default narrator that fulfills a broad purpose and that isn't represented by a character; I was specifically referring to the red text in New Home when I wrote that Chara became the narrator. This doesn't persist during the Sans battle though, so I suppose, to correct myself, Chara temporarily usurped the role of the narrator during New Home, and was able to do so due to being very close to being awakened. I don't think Chara is the narrator of the entire game, because a lot of the game isn't as serious and grim as that character during other routes, which is represented through narration, among other things.

On the route we didn't kill anyone when we inspect dog food in Alphys Lab it will say: "It's half full"
However if we kill anyone it will say: "it's half empty" so our actions are affecting narrator
Also narrator doesn't say much in fight against Asgore and Toriel, while against everyone else narrator is joyful and funny
@@undyne4032 Wasn't Chara where Flowey got his "kill or be killed" philosophy from? Even if Chara wasn't a perpetually serious character, I don't imagine them indulging in the pacifist route, since it seems out of character.
@@justjames4 Chara in his life killed only one person, themself, yes the plan was to kill another 6 humans (but why would someone genocidal commit suicide... Chara could absorb Asriel's soul since Boss monster, and Asriel is one, after death soul isn't gone for small amount of time, enough to absorb it
Chara only told Asriel to attack humans, after they attacked him, but Asriel refused
So let's say you are sacrificing yourself to help all monsters by collecting humans soul and breaking barrier, but your sacrifice is for nothing, when Frisk falls it awakens Chara spirit, and first thing they see after witnessig their best friend getting killed by humans, is a human murdering every monster in their way, and you're stuck to this human, they see Undyne as a true hero, but after witnessing the unstoppable force of determination it is futile. Chara calls themselves a demon, and what are they bad, Asriel calls himself Absolute God of hyperdeath is he bad?

I think Gaunter O'Dimm is probably the most terrifying villain I've experienced. Terrifying while also being so interesting.
Also, the villain is not always the origin of conflict. You don't NEED a villain for conflict, you need an antagonist. Not all antagonists are villains, but all villains are antagonists.

1. Chara kills you at the end of genocide, but doesn't take your soul unless you decide to give it to them.
2. Chara only gets mad if the player refuses to move on from this world that they laid to ruin. This is likely because Chara only gets mad if the player does not acknowledge that this is a game. By refusing, Chara assumes that you killed people intentionally, not because it's a game.
3. If Chara was a heartless villain, they wouldn't have made the gifts in Asgore's home
4. If Chara wanted to be a villain, they would have slaughtered all monsters when they lived with the Dreemurrs. It is implied that Chara was abused on the surface, which explains her hate towards the player, as well as her hidden judgement in #2
Chara didn’t kill the dreemurrs because they aren’t an idiot they wanted revenge on humans so they told asriel to absorb their soul knowing they’d be connected to asriel and still be alive, but then when they got to the village asriel resisted and left Chara probably even more vindictive than they were before
Also Chara erases the world when there are still some monsters and 7 billion humans that survived but Chara erases them
My only argument against this video is that calling Chara a villain and saying they only appear in genocide is vastly undermining their character as a whole... Other than that, awesome video!

Like someone else said, the voice filter can be irritating, but it isn't an issue of the pitch, it's an issue of the constant clicking and mic peaking. It's making the video hard to watch/listen to.

Chara as a villain really depends on perspective and views. Not good at explaining but I do know some see Chara as completely evil while others see Chara as not so evil or even a victim.
I remember one guy who said people use Chara to shift the blame onto so they don't feel guilty for the consequences of their actions
Chara is not a villain. They're just trying to stop the player from killing by forcing them to rush through the genocide run until they get bored and leave the game aside.

@@FateBooksOfFate The world Chara erases is just the world of Undertale and has literally *nobody* on it. Because Frisk killed everyone, or so we assume. And considering that they know the world will be reseted eventually, it's pretty much a trick to get you bored. Sans does a similar thing giving you a very long, annoying and hard fight hoping you'll give up, he tries to appeal to your feelings too reminding you of friendship and stuff. It's the same logic, different approaches. Chara isn't as strong to erase the whole world permanently anyway.

It's a very nice video, however saying flowey is the scariest villain in all fiction is beyond an exageration, there is just way too many other scary villains that use different concepts, there are just too many other villains who are also extremely scary using the same or different concepts than flowey, in order to say he is the scariest villain of all fiction, you need to know all fiction, and even then, there are people that are going to disagree, thus making it subjective.
