New Henry Homesteader 9mm Carbine! (First look and quick review)

  • Become a Channel Member! / @masonoutdoors_masonle... This is a quick out of the box review of the new Henry Homesteader 9mm carbine by Henry USA.
    Overall it seems like a well made rifle with some cheap design elements (the strange grip texturing).
    My particular Homesteader was missing it’s charging handle right out of the box, so a range trip will have to wait.
    Rest assured, I will be producing a lot more content on the Henry Homesteader 9mm in the near future to include accuracy tests, reliability, usability and more.
    Thanks for watching!

      To be fair, as a consumer you have ample opportunity to look the firearm over before you buy. If there is something wrong with the firearm, you're not obligated to buy it. Obviously, you won't be able to catch any internal issues but still. If this guy is as analytical as he seems in the video he should have caught that in the store. Though maybe he ordered it off the internet, but I wouldn't buy a firearm I hadn't physically held and inspected.

      Especially with new employees and my company use a fair bit of temp service workers. Keep in mind we did not produce firearms we make juice. And I have no idea how fire armed are made in factory’s but if it’s done by machines through and through and not by hand things will slip threw a lot and if done by hand then it’s probably just a new person in training or they are over worked and will make mistakes
      In my opinion if a ever made enough money to open my own firearm factory everything will be tested then cleaned before shipping

    • @jacqueslefave4296
      @jacqueslefave4296 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@thomsbooth4906 Sounds like a joke, but the Germans actually had an attachment that would allow them to shoot around corners, I believe that they developed it for urban warfare in Russia, particularly Stalingrad. Later, it was used against British soldiers that would approach a German tank to attach their "Sticky Bomb" to the less thick armor on the sides of the tank to breach it. It was a risky strategy at best for the British soldiers, but those German around-the-bend G-43 attachments made it suicidal.
      In practice, the "Sticky Bomb" of the British was superior to the German equivalent, their magnetic attached shaped charge portable armor penetrator, the Sticky Bombs were more useful because they could and were used to breach non-magnetic surfaces as well, such as doors and all but the thickest building walls. I think that they should have kept making it, they would have been very useful in Korea, IMO.

    My best friend's great grandpa owned a large farm and a huge gun collection. Over 300 rifles, pistols and shotguns, even a Gatling. He'd been some sort of lawman or outlaw (maybe both) back in the 19th century. We used to visit him in Nebraska. Great fun: corn, cattle, chickens, a couple of horses, donkeys and goats. He was pretty old at the time so he share-cropped his acres and had plenty of help with the critters. So, he'd spoil the crap out of us. Even took us camping in a Conestoga Wagon that he had found abandoned along the Oregon Trail, which he restored himself.
    Naturally, we'd go shooting. He taught us a lot and we had our choice of weapons. My favorites were the lever actions and my favorite of those were the Henrys. The deal was simple: for each round we shot, we'd have to reload two.
    After harvest he'd open his hunting lodge. There were lots of geese and ducks passing through. Our job was to get it ready for the lodgers, mostly final dusting, laundry, making beds and restocking provisions. He probably catered to the deer hunters as well. We missed out on that because we had to be back in school.
    A few years later when I got my permanent MOS, but before deployment, I received a real WWI M1911, two original ammo packs and a shoulder holster. The note said, "Congrats. Just in case." Later on, when I was commissioned, I got an 1890s Henry 30-30 in a beautiful black walnut presentation box. Over the decades since, I have had several firearms for strictly utilitarian purposes. Have passed them along, but still cherish my presents from Hank. Oh yeah, his name was also Henry, but he preferred Hank.
    A sentimental journey, I know, so this is more to the point. First, a recoil-operated rifle that shoots pistol tounds holds no interest for me. Second, although I'm pleaaed it's not, I thought Henry Arms was out of business.
    Will someone care to explain why all those Cavalry officers got nice presentation rifles while Infantry officers always seemed to get presentation sabres, if anything at all?

    Pistol caliber carbines are something I will never understand. Why not just give yourself the extra benefit of a rifle cartridge when using a rifle? Sure you can make the argument for overpenetration, but at that point why not just use a handgun or shotgun? Seems to me that the carbine fills a really, really tight niche outside of “it’s really cool.” Which… yeah ok I guess you got me. Thing’s pretty cool.

    • @Ephem13
      @Ephem13 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rifle cartridges and even intermediate cartridges are not always added value. Pistols are less accurate with the same cartridge than their rifle or pcc counterparts. Shotguns are also not very precise, usually cause lots of damage, and lack the range of a pistol caliber rifle or carbine.
      Now it's very possible that you have no use for one, as most of us are somewhat niche in the type of shooting we do. We also have a habit of downplaying other niches in comparison to our own. It is, however, very important to understand that no matter how useless it may seem to our needs, it can be the single greatest tool for others.

      I can pair my Ruger PC9 with any of my double stack 9mm Glocks, have the added accuracy and higher velocity of the carbine backed up with a pistol, and only have to carry one type of ammo and one type of mag.

    • @beng7844
      @beng7844 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PistolsMcGee yes, *however* I think the ballistics of pistol ammo are only useful in *very* niche circumstances when you could just as easily be firing a rifle round with better range, accuracy, and effect on target as well as more versatile uses (I.e. hunting) that in my opinion make it a waste of money when I could just as easily spend the same money on a decent handgun that I can reach out and touch a silhouette at up to 100 yards with and have the benefit of concealment and/or portability as well as an overall lighter load. Anything at or past 100 yards shouldn’t be shot at with a pistol cartriage in the first place imo because you’re then losing speed, round effectiveness on target, and you’ll have to adjust your aim upward fairly significantly (assuming you’re firing a handgun that will achieve more or less 1000 +/- 100 fps). Having to carry two types of ammo (assuming you still want to carry a handgun) only limits you to how many magazines you want to bring, which is still the case with PCC’s anyways. If anything, having the diversity of two ammo types is a benefit if you can only find ammo for one or the other because you’ll still have something to shoot instead of putting all your eggs in one basket assuming shit has seriously hit the fan and this argument for ammo even becomes moderately relevant to real life. Besides, PCC’s are a huge target for gun legislation and parts bans, so having a rifle just makes more long-term sense imo

    It'd be nice if they put the peep sight at the back of the receiver instead of the back of the barrel, but since it's drilled and tapped you might be able to get a Lyman micro adjustable rear peep for it. If so it looks like it would be a handy item.

      Would be nice, but this being chambered for 9mm is the main marketing point, from what I understand. A popular, very manageable and fairly inexpensive round that many people(who are going to purchase this) already have on hand. I'm just going on the advertising that has been sent my way. The ads always emphasized the fact that Henry is making a new 9mm. Which, I guess, was not very common.

    On the reading pace discussion: I can only really focus on a book if I’m doing 3 things at a time. I have to be watching a show, listening to music, and reading to focus. I read over 100 books last year and am on my way to 125 this year. I also found my new favorite book last year, so I wouldn’t say I wasn’t thinking critically about the books I read. I think it’s entirely up to you.
