As a RHCP and Johnny boy fan, you just summarized what any other RHCP and Johnny boy fan has to go through when trying to learn one of their songs... It's just a new thing after another new thing every time, every song, every 4 bars! Still, one of the, if not the, most approachable tutorials for this song. Quality stuff as always, Ryan! Cheers from Colombia!
Love the RHCP and Can't Stop is one of my favorite songs of theirs. I'll be leaning this tonight Ryan, thanks for another awesome lesson. PS. My son said you sound like a really nice guy. I tend to agree.
Great choice of song, Frusciante is by far not just my favorite guitarist but his understanding of theory how he applies it and his knowledge of the spaces between the notes relative to the other band members is why he’s my favorite musician. There is so much one can learn from a musicians perspective from the whole RHCP band. Great video lesson man, funny too Lol 😊🤙
3/8/21. Major 7ths are beautiful sounding chords. I’m self-taught, but the Major 7th seems to me to be like a jazz chord. I’ve been playing almost every day for the first time in a long time. Seriously, I was messing with so many of these exact chords last night before I commented on your videos. I was barring and sliding that same Major 7th chord last night for the first time in a long time, and it’s a little weird to see you focusing on that same Major 7th barre chord just hours later. If a chord is hard to play, just take out a less relevant note and the chord will still work fine because you want to make sure you ring out that 7th fret B note on the high E string, the main note according to you. Great video! Take care, Ryan.
I like a lot of JF's playing isn't it widely held that he gave River Phoenix that which he ODed on outside of the Viper Room? If you want to be scared, check out the documentary from 1994 and Gibby Haynes from 1993 on JF.
Just corrousing your back catalogue of super duper lessons when I stumbled on this classic! How many guitars were absolutely smashed while trying to learn this? 🤣🤣
I have conferred with my nephew. He told me that if someone is cooler than the maximum amount of cool, they should be referred to as ubercool. If there is one thing I've learned these last few years, it is that my nephew is always correct. And so John Frusciante is ubercool :)
Great videooo! I haven't continuing practicing can't stop because the opening is still a little hard for me but getting closer! Sadly i'm studying in a far state and I regret not bringing my electric :'). Gotta wait 4 months to come back. Wat a pain haha! In the mean time I'll just watch your videos for fun hehe. Love the content.
What position is your pickup switch at on your strat? Just curious.....I can never seem to get the tone right if anyone has any advice. Thank you Ryan your page is amazing.
th-cam.com/video/HZy8anyBhgg/w-d-xo.html This video is a slick cover also if anyone wants improv tips, this video is old but been watching it for over 10 years....he does a great Dani california
Although it is clear that my loyalty lies with the Reverend Stone Gossard and His Holiness Mike McCready, John Frusciante is clearly the best guitarist in the world who is not in Pearl Jam!! (and you are clearly the best guitar tutor bar none)
@@RyanLendt From Ground Guitar: Bought sometime prior to Californication, and used on a few songs from that album - specifically “Easily” and “Scar Tissue” (only on the solo) [Return Of The Prodigal Son, Guitar Player (UK), September 1999]. It was also used on the band’s 2002 album “By the Way”, where John used this exact guitar to record one of their bigger hits, “Can’t Stop”. John’s Telecaster features three-tone sunburst finish, rosewood fingerboard, white body binding, and white pickguard with a letter “F” embedded into it - origin of which we’re not familiar with. If you know anything please contact us using the form below this article. This guitar was made sometime in the 60s, during the pre-CBS period. In some older interview John refers to the guitar as a ’65 Telecaster, although more recently almost every source has it listed as a ’63. Important thing to note is that John had another almost identical Telecaster from 1967 as a backup during By The Way tour, which he ended up giving to Josh Klinghoffer after he joined Peppers.
logic would dictate that if my title is true, then there is a level beyond maximum. I assign you to come up with the new word. Make it very long, please, and preferably comprised of several parts of other words, or none of such at all.
You've missed the point. John doesn't pick the notes. He strums the whole guitar and blocks all the notes but the ones he wants to hear. It's a Hendrix technique

It’s not possible for me to think John F is any cooler than I already think he is. But, I’ll watch anyway because Ryan is pretty decent.
teehee. thanks for the benefit of the doubt.

One of the best guitarist of all time with a lesson by one of the worlds best guitar teachers of all time. 🐐 🐐
Matt Klein in the house folks :)
There are so many wonderful and interesting songs from John Frusciante‘s solo albums - and some of them would make for great campfire editions.
:)

much to consider...
that was great i dont feel so bad for failing miserably at many of JF's songs if its challenging you!
the underlying message :)
I love Ryan
ryan plus rich
Nicely done Ryan. My request would be any Smashing Pumpkins songs off of Gish. I know you've covered at least one in the past. Thank you kind sir!
Great suggestion kind sir!

exactly my sentiment on guitarists! thanks CM :)
I dont own a strat to play this song so i think im going to have to buy one now ;)
It's played on a Tele originally
not that it's necessarily related, but doesn't he play like a silver strat in the music video?
