I realised that it is better to save up and buy luxury bags that you can resell, because the last couple of years I wasted so much money on cheap crap which I couldn't even wear for a long period of time because the quality was so bad, that I realised with all that money I could have easily bought at least one or two really nice designer bags from Chanel or LV which last for ages and that you can sell for the same or even a higher price, since the prices increase for some models over time. Luxury items which you buy smart aren't a waste of money, they are an investment. You can even pass them down to your children or nieces one day :)

If you're not good at keeping track of your spending, many banks allow you to download all you transactions into a spreadsheet. I do this each month, and add a new column for 'category' for example, 1=dinner out, 2=misc travel 3=makeup. Sometimes I really get a shock at what i've been spending my money on and makes it easier for me to cut down on unnecessary purchases the next month.

  • @brandincompany
    @brandincompany 8 ปีที่แล้ว +24

Hi Sohpie! I have a trick that seems to work for me.
If I consider purchasing something that's not on my wishlist and do not go through with the frivolous purchase, I take the money I would have spent from my checking and put it into my savings. I get to my wishlist goal pretty quick that way. For example. If I see a dress that's $100 and I try it on and am on my way to the register to purchase, I put the dress back and transfer the money I would have spent on the dress to my savings.
Lastly, the day before I get paid, I transfer ALL money left in my checking to my savings.

So true with your comment on how other people easily spend more money on going out or other things! I rarely buy drugstore makeup and save up for really high quality cosmetics. I know girls who buy around 10-15 lipsticks from drugstores every co month and that adds up to one high quality lipstick! That's why I went ahead and got a nude tom ford lipstick instead of 1000 revlon, rimmel, etc... lipsticks. I'm a student and a random thing I do to save money is I used to share textbooks with a friend and I would scan them into electronic files. textbooks are sooo expensive! Also had a friend who used to go on a bunch of dates to save money on food hahaha I've never done that but I still think its quite humorous and would work for some people

To be honest I have used high end and drug store make-up and sometimes the drug store make-up out preforms the high end. It just depends on the product- but if you find something that works well and its cheep- its all the better.

A really good tip I learnt somewhere is to skim your bank account on a regular basis, so say you have £203.45 in your current account, take that £3.45 an transfer into your savings. You need to make sure you have enough for your bills and such obviously but you won't miss £3.45 most of the time and if you do it every week or even every month just before you get paid for instance, it really adds up! x

I live in Nashville where there are a lot of rich people who don't wear their designer bags, shoes and clothes more than once. We have a couple great high end consignment shops and I use them. Everything has been checked to make sure it is real. Saves me money.

never buy in impulse. I always wait a few days sometimes I really want something or think I do and then I wait and forget all about it and realise I don't really want it. I keep a wish list on my phone of things I want if I still want it I'll remember it by looking on there if I've forgot it I'll just delete it off and know I obviously didn't want it that bad

I was wondering if you always buy your luxury items in the official stores? Which online stores would you recommend ? (I remember you've mentioned in another video that you've once bought Louboutin online and in Euros)
      Thanks again! xxx

The vision board is an excellent tip! Coincidentally, I actually started one of these yesterday, and I'm already noticing a change in my spending pattern after just one day. I skipped my morning latte, took my own lunch to work, and cooked myself dinner instead of going out. These money savers, multiplied over the course of a few months, will definitely help me save the money necessary for my next luxury purchase!

Totally love the energy in your videos very motivating 💖! Getting a money diary NOW... The weird thing i used to keep a money diary all throughout my 4 years at uni for each and every single penny and when i think back i have actually got waaaaaay better use of my money (the barely enough for my fees and expenses) and actually have saved for more things than four years at my current job !!!! which sounds ridiculous to me!!!!!!! Total alarm went off in my head right now THANK YOU SOPHIE....! One last thing which i have done the last few months with savings is that after i round up roughly what my spending is for a month plus minus any extra things i need to buy i.e. gifts and what not... I have literally transferred the remaining savings straight to my savings account as sooon as i get my paycheck... Hehehe i should not kid my self if i keep it ill probably put less away! Soooorry for the ramble LOTS OF LOVE xxxxx

For people with smaller scale budgets, I'd highly recommend the app Digit! It saves small bits of money, with every transaction you make. And You can adjust how aggressive it is. I've consistently saved about 100-150 a month without even noticing! The nice thing is it is a little bit more discreet too so rather than knowing what you have and being tempted to spend, it just does all the work for you!

Omg! I love that you log everything! My husband has been logging for 24 years, hoe much he makes each month and what we spend on! When I saved for my three Chanel bags( I'm a stay at home mom) I cut every unnecessary item out, coffees at Starbucks, drugstore purchases that are small and needless, etc, I saved for each bag and it's not that hard, it's easy because we don't go out too much and people can really do it if they set their mind to it! Good for you!!

She is the best on TH-cam. I can't be bothered to follow or subscribe to any other person now.
I love Sophie. I love the way she talks and explains everything . She is REAL. AND GENUINE. I WISH SHE WAS MY FRIEND! I wish I knew her in my years previously . I learnt so much from watching her videos
Every video she does has something useful I can take away from it . She has positive vibes. She is one of those people I can listen to all day and still not get bored or fed up. Her idea about writing things in a notebook and listing spending habits - I'm so going to do this. Simple yet effective ideas. And she has great taste in clothes and bags and shoes and she is so honest and transparent. She is my favourite TH-camr in the whole world. Keep doing what you do Sophie

I've been out of college for over a year and money is definitely an issue for me. My type of job can pay quite high, but since I'm a Jr. my pay is on the extreme lower side of the spectrum. I have to put nearly 75% of my monthly paycheck towards bills and paying off debt. That leaves me only a bit of money to pay for food..and I can't even think about trying to save up for anything until the debt is cleared! To this day, I still believe that I have to live like I'm a poor college student again. Though, seeing your video definitely puts my mind at ease a little bit since you went through this and came out like a champ! Just gotta keep moving forward right : )

So helpful! I've just started to save up for a house in the last few weeks. I literally write down everything I buy in a day in the notes section on my phone, (sounds tedious) but it's a great way to see where your money goes. Plus it makes you question, do I REALLY need to buy it, the answer is usually no. I also set a budget of £10 per day. Which I try to stick to, but it can be hard sometimes...

I totally agree with everything you say! I set up an online savings account and swore to myself that I would put X amount in every month, without fail. If I was short one month, I forced myself to cut back on crap you buy day to day. Sure enough, I was able to get out of my overdraft (was deep in after uni), buy a car and have a breast reduction (something I've wanted for years!) it's a sure thing! Love the idea of the dream board!

Great video. I've just bought a Louis Vuitton Speedy 30 in Damier Ebene by saving up. I'll read stuff on Issuu rather than buy a magazine, go to the library rather than buy books. Make my own coffee with Nespresso or but something in Waitrose and get a coffee with MyWaitrose card. I have a capsule wardrobe now, which has helped me save a lot and not waste money on fashion faux pas! Love your videos.

I agree that buying a lot of cheap things can be a catastrophe. Whenever I spend too much, it's usually because of those trifles whose individual prices seem insignificant... until they add up =/

I am a woman who has struggled with saving money my whole life. Thank you so much for the wonderful informative video. I could really relate to a lot of the experiences with money you spoke about. Thankfully I have recently become more disciplined with my hard earned money and now I have more savings than I have ever had. Please more videos like this in the future. I am so happy I found your channel. New subbie :)

You are showings all this luxury in life but I don't feel like you are bragging. I find you so genuine unlike other people in TH-cam that show all the luxurious item they have that I feel the bragging for it. I love seeing people achieve things in life because it becomes my inspiration but I don't like it when I feel that they are bragging about it.

TSB (not sure if anywhere else does it) has a feature called 'Save the Change'. basically whenever you pay with debit card, the bank rounds it up to the nearest pound and puts the difference into a savings account automatically. So, say you spend 5.30, it'll round it to 6 and automatically transfer 70p into an e-savings account. by the end of the month, there's usually at least a tenner in there that I essentially forgot about - great for if you need a top up or want to go for a pint! not a big tip but a little thing that you don't have to even think about! love your videos and thanks for all the advice Sophie

You gave some great tips! Automatic deposit works great because you don't have to manually do it. Since I work for myself as a Realtor I deposit commission checks and my bank automatically takes out a certain amount to put in my savings so I don't have to think twice about it. I also take my money and split it up by that I mean that I also put some in a personal checking, my business account which cashes the check and then I take out cash to carry for emergencies. I also make sure before I go to the store or get out my car or start shopping in the store or online to shop I check for coupons and coupon codes for savings. I never go food shopping hungry and I only carry cash for groceries instead of my bank card so I'm not tempted to go over budget and never go hungry.

    Hi sophie
I have just recently stumbled across your channel and I really like you so much! Thank you so much for these tips i think it really helps a lot. I have just started savings and most of my techniques are similar to yours and what u suggested is sooooooo true!
I think you're such a humble person! I have a flair for luxurious goods too but I always feel a tab bit guilty when I buy them because I am still not working. So I am looking up to you as an inspiration, my goal is to buy all the luxe that I want someday with my own hard earn money and savings, like you do. Thank you so much for putting yourself out there, I am sure you have helped many others too! I have never commented or try to initiate a conversation with any other youtuber and you are my 1st! I just think you are so humble and genuine and I just wanna let you know this. :-)

Great tips!! I also keep a spending diary! Years ago when I was on a diet the weight watchers motto was if you nibble scribble! So write down everything... I then put myself on a financial diet and do the exact same! It's shocking where we don't notice money wasted! Best of luck with the chanel, I think I'm on track for my Alma BB in June if I change my car next month! Always something to save for! X

Great tips. I save money a few ways. One way is, I have money taken out my check every pay period and deposited into a vacation account. During a certain time of year the money is transferred into my savings account and then it starts all over. You can only access the account once for an emergency. Another way is participating in a su-su at work. My colleagues and I decided on an amount to save every pay period. The money is given to a designated person every pay period. We chose the dates we want to get out our money and each person gets paid during that pay period. Lastly , saving spare change. Once I get change I don't spend it I put it in a bottle and when it fills up I take it to the bank.

Superb video Sophie and this is my 1st time commentating (or perhaps 2nd time).. You seem genuine and "no fake" like many other TH-camr girls on here. Great advices really.. I can exactly relate to u about the Boots issue small spendings adding up so that stopped and I only do all my shopping at the discount market around the corner that is so much cheaper and got everything I need from skin care to food and home utilities.. One thing I won't cut down is my quality of food since am dieting every days but still I get plenty there for a 3 days food market. So except for my gym membership that is only 15€ a month I dont really spend anything else ah yes Proteins powder and other needed fitness supplements but really beside these am keeping the money tightly.
    Great great video.

I too have a savings account that I try to put £100 of my wages a week in, but I also bought a Terramundi pot to keep in my bedroom to put in any spare change from my lunches at the end of each day. It doesn't feel like much when you're putting it in... but if you're like me and put a couple of pounds in at the end of each day that I would have spent on junk food then you end up with an extra £40 - £50 at the end of each month! (every little helps) xx

Btw peeps, another good saving tip - only use cash. That way you physically see what you're spending. If you use cards all the time, you never see the money being spent (and you end up having no idea of how much you've spent!). If you have to hand over your hard earned cash every single time, it'll really make you think!

    i keep cash
when its get 1000$ i put it away so you can't see it and easy to get.
if i want anything luxury bag
I save more on top of that saving i had.
and have a date when to buy.
like i would save this till the end of the year when the new season of
luxury good and see if you really really like it then buy it.
if I don't than thats can wait for the next season.
and thats mean I save even more.
    its just my personal saving.

I keep a budget, but I'm bad when I get bored I shop unfortunately, and you're right with how easy it is to pay with PayPal and whatnot you can go a little crazy. My tip for using PayPal, even thought I have a pretty nice credit limit with them (I can go on vacation twice with my limit) I have it set up so I comes out of my bank account, not my PayPal credit line, this way it makes me think about it before I really make the purchase...
