A lot of great players can't be coaches. Shannon Sharpe has expressed why, when you are an all time great you see things different. And you have to be able to understand and handle that your players won't see it or won't react in the proper way. That can be very frustrating when you knew you were capable one day and are now relying on inferior players.
Phil Jackson said in his book that when he coached Payton in 2004, he'd never seen a player who was so distracted during games and he didn't understand how he could play basketball, lol.

Same with White Chocolate Jayson Williams.
