When splitting, you can't click the progress bar. You need to click the time marker and then move it, also, this pauses. So finding the spots to split feels like doing a surgery. Then I go to "export video". I click save and it's asking me required advanced information about the start/end frames. Like wtf, can i just save the fucking video I'm asking to save. So I put Start at 1 and End at 100. It's been not-responding for 10 minutes.
Wow! The creator himself! No wonder it's super helpful, straight to the point, no fluff. Very useful video. And thank you for creating Openshot and keeping it free.
I saw that OpenShot was created 10 years ago .... and I was a fool for 10 years. Thanks a million, Jonathan. Your Creation is a Gold Standard in Video editing.
Ive actually made a ton of progress on the quality of my videos just by playing around with this program without even watching any tutorials. That's how simple this is. Bravo.
I installed this Software yesterday and was so totally overwhelmed by all its options and menus and terminology that i was quite close to despair - and then i took the time to check your videos , tried this afternoon what i remembered , knew that i was still being stupid , checked once more , and now , slowly , this old dynosaur is warming up and gaining speed Thank you , Jonathan 🙏
Thank you Jonathan for creating such a wonderful & amazing video editor. The more I am learning about the OpenShot features , the more I am loving it. Thank you once again for your valuable tutorial lesson how to trim videos in different ways.
I'm 45 and I've NEVER ever worked with - or used in any possible way - graphics and editing. Not talented in drawing, never had to edit a video, not a single frame. But I've found some old videocassettes with videos I wanted to keep, brought them to a guy near here and I've obtained lots of vob files. After converting them with a tool I needed to adjust split and edit them. In literally F I V E minutes I've managed to find all the methods Jonathan explains in the video, BEFORE watching it. I watched this to learn how to save single cuts into MP4 files and other saving methods, still very new at this. Anyway thank you. VERY powerful tool, very reliable and it really makes the job easy, actually it's TOO easy for a program of that kind, I was very surprised considered I've downloaded not one but some apps for this task and most of them were uninstalled without being able to proceed to step 2: editing after opening a file
Thank you, Jonathan for making Openshot. Also for making these easy to follow videos - you are a good teacher too. This 8 minute video was worth it since I am a beginning user and was getting frustrated using the razor tool (since that was the only obvious method). At one point I thought i need to check for a tutorial. So many better ways which will save me a lot of time
I almost gave up on this software because I was using it wrong. Trim, cut and slice is pretty much all I want to do, so this video helped a lot :) Thank you Jonathan.
Johnathan, you are amazing at explaining things! You make the confusion in my head and my overwhelmed thoughts all clear out. And all I need to do is listen well to what you say, watch your mouse, than go and create my own magic!
Oh sweet Baby Jesus, this piece of software right here is a life saver. I don't know why I didn't find it sooner when I needed some simple video fixes. Thank you for developing it. I might as well donate on your page, so you can enjoy some cold, refreshing, wonderful craft beer on me.
I just discovered OpenShot, thank you thank you thank you! It is SOOOO easy and intuitive. I am 64 and not very comfortable with confusing programs with way too many pro features and buttons like the starship Enterprise. Jon you are my hero! PS-Just donated.
Had I known just how simple it really is to trim videos I'd have been doing it much sooner than today, when I really needed to do it in Linux. When I was doing casual video editing long ago, it was with the free software that came with new DVD burners and the process wasn't this simple. Thanks for creating and supporting this amazing program, Jonathan.
Nicely paced tutorial, I like that you've kept to the point and given lots of different ways to do the same thing. I've just come across OpenShot and that is a really nice application, thanks!
i'm so happy you created this for free! I had been looking for a year until i eventually gave up, but a friend suggested this editor to me. i'm happy i found this
I know it's free and I don't have a lot of money, but I just want to give you money for your genius. It took me a whole week to create a very imperfect video with VSDC. Soooooooo unnecessarily complicated even though it's supposed to be one of the easier ones.
Thank you Jonathan, you are the best teacher and an amazing creator. I am learning everyday as a beginner. I wish I can correct a lot of things in my past videos which got lots of views already.
This is a great tool. It really makes video cut and splice etc accessible in 5 minutes flat. Sometimes video tools aim so high the entry point is unreachable. Not here. You can do it.
You are awesome. I want you to know that OpenShot saved my University during the pandemic because all manuals and tutorials for students are being built with it. Don't know how to thank you. THANK YOU

Jonathan I came to your software because i was struggling with another. Yours is a work of genius. Once I've used it more I'll contribute to help you keep it going. Thanks!
I just started using this software tonight and have never done any video editing before in my life (though I've done some audio editing and that was invaluable in picking up on this software) and absolutely LOVE the razor tool. I get around the imprecision by placing the cursor precisely where I want and adding a marker, then using the razor to hit that spot :) It works quite nicely (for what I'm doing anyway, which is just editing a monologue type of thing) that way :) I would absolutely love it if you added a hotkey command to switch between the razor and the compass-looking-default-thing, and a quick way to force all tracks to align with the red line without cutting off any part of them. Like "align all tracks to start here" type of thing. More hotkeys, please!!!! :-D I live and breathe by them! And thank you thank you thank you thank you SO MUCH for this software. You are amazing!!!!
Whether you see this or not I want to express my appreciation for this tutorial! Most of it is intuitive but alot of this had me scratching my head! You're the shit, man! :)
Ok Jonathan...I'm new to this editing business and went with Openshot due to reviews and marketing of this software as one of best if not the best for beginners. Everything started out fine as was learning to overlay text etc...completed one 34min video was pretty happy with result for first time but thats is when all problems start happening. While doing my second video project i got my time line all done overlays etc but while doing this all i got was a lagging spluttering view of my video in preview box audio all over the place. So i saved it and exported it to see if video exported with no lagging etc..and it did, so i thought ok it pain but if video exports ok then i can deal with it. So now i reload saved project to finish last couple of things, this was a cut that needed to be made. So i splice/cut (was a jump cut to shorten video) kept what i needed and position it on time line. Everthing looked fine in preview but due to lagging and audio cutting in out and constant not responding errors this i could not be sure of. So i saved and exported again what i though and hope was finished video but on checking exported video i find that the cut piece of video has no audio. Everything else up untill the jump cut is fine then no audio, after cut piece is finished audio comes back in at end for my outro. I tried doing it all again and then again with same result. Am my missing a simple fix here or is your sofware not as marketed/advertised. Any help from anyone on this would be appreciated as i cannot for life of me find a fix...Cheers

Hey Jonathan! Great video thanks! I was curious if you have found a way to identify which frame number the playhead is located. I want to export only PART of a video and when it asks for the ending frame #, I don't know how to find that. Thanks in advance!
Thanks for very informative and professionally done. My problem was that it took hours to export a sliced video and worst it is a black screen video, though the thumbnail of cut video shows a pic icon. What may have gone wrong? Any help ?

Hey Jonathan! Great video thanks! I was curious if you have found a way to identify which frame number the playhead is located. I want to export only PART of a video and when it asks for the ending frame #, I don't know how to find that. Thanks in advance!
FINALLY!!!! A video that explains it clearly. Thanks a bunch
Thanks for very informative and professionally done. My problem was that it took hours to export a sliced video and worst it is a black screen video, though the thumbnail of cut video shows a pic icon. What may have gone wrong? Any help ?
