There's a clear difference to me. The Encore is very clearly louder and the bass reaches down to lower frequencies. The differences aren't huge, but they're obvious to my ears.

We just bought the JBL PartyBox Encore witht the Microphones before the Holiday Season last year - and it made a lot lot difference the way we party.... now I"m planning to get the Partybox 1000... :)
plain encore has higher quality sound board (the amp - motherboard) which is why it sounded abit more powerful than the essential which has slighly cheaper amp board components. but they mostly the same. btw the more expensive one (encore) uses more watts on average.

I have the encore and it’s my first speaker 🔊 from JBL and i love it! Great for karaoke 🎤 and love the lights. I was waiting for release at Amazon and others websites. I prefer this that the 110 because it size.

Of course it sounds the same! you do get the side lights and a little more "strobe" at least. Oh and a little more battery life! That's really a miss that JBL put the microphone preamp after the send for the TWS. That mic sound should have come through both speakers. Maybe the delay was too much if they ran through tws... And yeah, I can confirm, 2 Encore speakers is a very nice thing.
They remind me of a torch / baton . I like that copper, but not for a mic. Design is cool if it were only blacks and grays. They're appealing to the kids.
The differences in sound likely boils down to different DSP tuning, with the essential being slightly leaner in terms of bass since it has a much weaker battery (2 cells vs 3 with the encore), so the battery life would be even shorter if JBL tuned the bass more aggressively.

You can still *technically* connect the dongle mic to the normal Encore. Just by bringing the mic close to the speaker with it on, then it should automatically connect. It’s still connected to the dongle, it will still play on both if the dongle is connected.
I love my VG Encores. so much Bass: even with the Bass all the way down. It's just a Karaoke Machine to be honest with myself and I love that feature - not into Karaoke.

Awesome. I scored mine for $260 (free shipping) factory sealed from Ebay a few months back. It's such an awesome sounding speaker. Looking now, it seems there's like only 2. One is used, and the other is $350. So, we got lucky!
I do think the encor is louder by a bit I think the bass between the two are relatively the same but the encore is louder by a bit I don't think it would really matter witch one you get of your looking for just a good speaker there pretty much the same
When you find out the price of 21700 5000mah li ion samsung 50S cells, you really start to wonder why jbl wouldn't just put 4 cells in this thing and make it a battery/performance beast with 20000mah. Yep, you're correct. The Encore has the advantage. I'd like to see how they compare to the PB 100/110. Is it simply a -3db difference, or do these single units have better frequency response? I swear they go lower. Not louder, but lower.
True, I've gone ahead and test the partybox 110 and the encore somehow the different in sound loudness is little but I swear the Encore is more deeper in terms of bass for some reason and the 110 can tump alittle bit more though I like the encore deeper and more resonance bass.
A single 110 plays deeper than a single Encore. Two Encore's in stereo is about as deep as a 110, but as with using two subs in stereo, they have a much easier time fighting dead spots and nulls in a room. This means that two Encore's set up in stereo will play much better and smoother than a single 110, especially indoors with about 8-12 feet between them. The Encure can trick you as it is one speaker playing mono, and that can lead to one thinking it plays deeper. This is because the single box 110 which does play stereo, can have a bit of a comb filtering tendency in some situations. But try and input a mono signal into both the Encore and the 110 so they essentially play in the same way, and you can hear that the two drivers in the 110 couple and thus help each other reach lower frequencies. Pros and cons to each setup, it all depends on what you are looking for.
Encore definitely sounded punchier. Its too bad the encore seems to be only available directly from harmon kardon or JBL at the current moment in time.
JBL Encore is about 20 people-outdoor-parties when you keep moving from A to B. That's it. 6 kgs, massive bass, adequate battery, high volume. Partybox 110 is 20% louder, yes. But it has no digital EQ. The Encore does. And believe it guys :) you can be the new Arnold Schwarzenegger 2022, after 200 m-walk with a Partybox110's 11 kg, you're gonna curse inside. Encore's 6 kg is decent. We love it.

Great comparison. I was also intrigued by their sound differences. By the way the included mics on the encore are digital mics and the ones you can purchase aren't. Do you think 1 encore and 1 essential link together would sound better than a party box 110 or 310? Thanks

Honestly maybe they will sound better bc its a stereo but partybox 310 is stil gonna be 40w stronger but jbl partybox 110 isnt
why 1 encore + 1 essential when you can go 110+110 :D

great review. I have JBL Partybox Encore, and I am happy with it but when I try to connect my electro guitar to it, there is simply no sound coming. do you know why?
There is only a input for the Microphone. Do want to use a Guitar, you need to go to the 110
